  • AMTRAK: Better than flying especially with the TSA at the airport.

  • There "Was" Somthing About The Train That's Magic. Now It Seems Like It's Fading. "Mr./Ms. Congresspeople, If You're Listening, Please Invest More Attention In Amtrak Equipment & New Impovements Than In These Auto Giants (Or The Big Three As We Call Them). Let Them Iron Out Their Problems. They've Been Doing It For Over 100 Years. If Ford Can Comback On Their Own Without ANY Government Help, Than So Can The Other Two. Car Companies Aren't Government, Amtrak Is. Gas Is Too Damn Expensive As It Is

  • LOVE the one at 2:42. If only Amtrak ran ones like this again.

  • @arrowguy173 I agree with you. I would bet if they did do this again, ridership would be up again.

  • @arrowguy173

the one and only Richie Havens!

  • Hahah the John Madden clip at the end is awesome. Thanks for the video!!

  • "All Aboard Amtrak!"

  • That was a cute ending ad. Thanks for the upload! You are very nice.

  • I wish more money would go into Amtrak rather than automobiles.

  • @RedShadow1917 and airlines too!

  • @RedShadow1917 With all the naked scanning and pat-down groping that come with flying nowdays, I wonder how many will take the train instead.

  • Ok sure they say if amtrak waznt made then we wouldnt hav passenger train and yea i agree but i think that the government needs 2 get a grip. this crap needs 2 b ovr with. amtrak needs 2 b treated as fair as the car companies. its rediculous. Obama says we need high speed rai well guess wat y dont u do something its like indianapolis the stupid mayor thinks nobody would ride transit wat a moron im sick of amtrak being treated like shit som1 needs 2 speak up and soon b4 the amtrak we kno is gone.

  • This is terrific! Thanks for posting!

  • My favorite Amtrak commercial was "Take the A Train!" which showcased the Auto Train. The background music used was the Duke Ellington hit classic song of the same title.

  • Seems more hopeful. Though I lean more conservative, I was very upset that the former president kept wanting to zero-out Amtrak funding and restructure it to short distance markets only. That was too extreme, especially since the public has been demanding increased service.

  • My opinion is that Amtrak and the railroads will never be able to compete with the ownership structure as it is. The other modes of transportation involve private vehicles run by private companies operating on publicly owned and maintained infrastructure, and rail should be done the same way.

  • @srenker are you crazy. tracks will go to hell.

you must be a Penn Central fan or freak one.

  • Unfortunately Amtrak's advertising budget became tighter and tighter of the years. Hence, why commercials outside of the high density markets are far and few in between. Seems that Amtrak was at its best between 1981-85. Superliners and Amfleet II cars were new, the Heritage cars were rebuilt, and Amtrak had a good sized fleet. Today so much of that fleet is worn, a lot of cars are out of service for repairs but funds for massive repairs were very limited, courtesy of congress .

  • You hit the nail on that one Tony, It seems like congress' trying to pull a fast one on us by trying even harder to get gas for everybody's cars, I know of the ideas of hydrogen and electric cars, but those are just too rare and expensive to mass manufacture. Even though we'd like to just say "au revoir" to gas, but those oil companies just won't go down without a fight. Anyhow, I think that congress just try to fund Amtrak again so we won't have transport problems in the future.

  • le video est pa mal.

  • YES! I waiting to see the commercial at 2:44!!! I remember those commercials as a kid. I am 25 years old now and periodically I think about that beautiful jingle for some reason. I loved that commercial.

  • Madden! Sweet!

  • As rare as they are, Amtrak does run the occasional advertisement on TV. I just wish they were as common as the ad for "freecreditreportdotcom."

  • Beautiful!

  • Pickin' up chicks on Amtrak.... but only if you wear a jacket to dinner!

  • Great commercial on the dining car---how can you do that by any other mode of transportation?

  • Look I will pay you to send me the VHS tapes so I can directly rip them to my computer instead of this recode the TV screen low res stuff.

  • I remember these back then. I also remember the earlier ones that showed the SDP40f locomotives. My favorite (not shown here) was the "Take the A Train" Auto Train commercial. Even with the slightly increased funding recently; Amtrak's budget now is stretched very thin. So commercials for the long distance trains have taken a back seat to advertisements for the short busy corridors such as in California.

  • There's something about a train's magic!

  • I LOVE THE "ALL ABOARD, ALL ABOARD, ALL ABOARD AMTRAK!" song the BEST!!!!!!!!! The 1980s were the BEST time to LIVE!!!

  • That's right---and those were some of Amtrak's toughest years, under a President determined to end its very existence. Hats off to W. Graham Claytor, Jr.

  • Great video! I remember more Amtrak commercials in the past. I don't see as many today.

  • these are sooo cheesy but I LOVE THEM!!!

  • They dont make commercials like they use to anymore!

  • Thanks for posting these! I think I can faintly remember the other ones in your other "Vintage Amtrak Commercials" video, but I don't remember seeing these commercials at all. Maybe I was just too young. The 1980s are getting really foggy for me now. :(

  • I really wish the videos were put on the computer rather than filming the tv screen.

  • P.S. Don't get me wrong I do enjoy the videos.

  • Nice work! These commercials brought back some memories!!

  • More great commercials. "Hey. What happened to the lights!!!!!!!!!!!!!" lol

  • Amtrak needs to make more commercials. That was the Broadway Limited, crossing the Rockville Bridge, at 4:12.
