Whenever I hear this song, I think of power sweeps: Larry Czonka running behind Larry Little, Mark van Eeghen running behind Gene Upshaw, and O.J. running behind Reggie McKenzie.
Did you see that - Lenny Dawson just got blindsided by Ed Too Tall Jones; Lee Roy Kelly sprinted 5 yards through 4 defenders for a TD; Bert Jones threw a screen to Lydell Mitchell who scampered 35 yards in the open field; Staubach hits a diving Drew Pearson for 55 yards; Dan Pastorini just fumbled the snap - again, and Ray Guy sailed a punt 79 yards in the air; Page, Eller and Marshall bury Floyd Little, and Kenny Stabler throws a bomb to Cliff Branch who out races the defense for a TD.
I wish the NFL would do a show like "This week in the NFL" again. I don't want to just see the big plays, I want to get a feel of how the game was played, the ebb and flow, from beginning to end. I want the emotion of the game, not some talking head telling me what happened, when I can see what happened.
@theafterburner1000 I was thinking the same thing. I have had enough of the talking heads on the NFL Network. Just show us NFL films with this genius music.
Just a classic composition. Just as John Facenda provided a narrative that would stand the test of time, so too does Sam Spence's music. I argue the reason the NFL became so popular was that unlike MLB and the NBA, you had these easily recognizable moments to refer to. They become embedded in your consciousness...I can't even think about "The Raiders" without seeing some great NFL Films clips from the 1970's. Just amazing stuff...
NFL Films of the late 60's and 70's promoted the the actual game and the talent of the players playing the game - it made them Hero's - people that you wanted to be like, doing great things on the field. Today, there really are no football hero's - they are replaced with the big hit, strikes, lockouts, and holdouts, contracts, more violent hits with $25,000 fines, bad attitudes and 'trash talk' - - The game and the hero's are just not that important.
A vintage sound. Reminiscent of the Sammy Baugh/Joe Gibbs Redskins. Not the shells they are now.

...the moving bassline is one of the best I've ever heard...this and a soaring brass/woodwind section makes this an eternal classic...
