  • Beautiful!

  • This version is heartbreakingly beautiful.

  • Love her little dance moves.

  • like, at first i didnt think much of her but the more videos i watch i find something oddly attractive about her, i think shes pretty so thats my 2 cents or less lol

  • I think she's beautiful. And I bet Win thinks so as well. And that's enough for her :):)

  • Amazing performance, amazing song.

  • Regina looks like my sister in-law :)

  • she ain't guna be too happy to hear that Papa Doc is back in Haiti.

  • @thefruit8 In the show in LA she and win encouraged the crowd to write letters in support of prosecuting duvalier. So, no, not happy.

  • just listened to this song for the first time tonight...... Jesus where have i been.... this is amazing

  • regine is amazing.

  • Regine is actually pretty unattractive imo. Doesn't mean she's not an amazing singer.

  • I've seen nastier, but I finaly feel like I've lost all respect for youtube's comment section. Wow, just wow. Anytime there's a girl in a video we feel the need to pick her apart. Great song though...

  • adieu/ helas Haiti

  • She does a pretty awesome robot.

  • She does a pretty awesome robot.

  • who cares how anyone looks like!! that is the least of my concern with music, if i focused on appearance i'd be missing out on amazing bands and be stuck with some crappy ones

  • I think Regine is beautiful. The way she moves and sings..and she looks really natural...not like those plastic/fake women you see on TV whose faces are riddled with botox and makeup. REGINE FOR THE WIN!

  • first french sound good! lol

  • Technicqually you don´t have to be great to make a great song. I love this one, especially the way she sings it.

  • wow they all look so differant now, they were so young.

  • Regarding the "Is Regine hot or not" debate that seems to plague EVERY GODDAMNED YouTube clip of Arcade Fire, let me just say...physical beauty, or that which is perceived as such, has its place in human society and culture and it's OK to debate specific people's looks, but ultimately it is only Art, and the ability to channel it and shape it uniquely, that is the real element of power and magnetism within the human spectrum. And she pretty much nails it as far as I'm concerned.

  • anarchy in the usa

  • @EsClayWilson.that comment saddens me. it's an example of how ignorant some people can be not only about other cultures but their own history.you should do research about Haiti, how it was and continues to be victimized by the real people who run your country ,and who are doing the same right here in your back yard. I moved to the states 18 years ago, despite Haiti problems I'm returning home.TheU.S.sinking. Arm yourselves with knowledge and save your selves and your community.

  • @camaelx130 "We can never take any responsibility for anything, ever! We're not white!" I wonder what excuses you'd use if the world were to cease having whites and you STILL had problems.

  • It doesn't get any better than this!!

  • i am field commander cohen where is my gypsy wife tonight. arcade fire haiti .leonard cohen a partisan. i am not against lethal self defense

  • Haiti is a perfect example of the kind of country blacks are great at making and running. After 200+ years independence, they are still blaming YT. Must be where Sharpton studied.

  • I genuinely think this song sounds better live then on the album. After not really paying much attention to Arcade Fire I saw them at Reading Festival the otehr weekend and had this song stuck in my head after never hearing it before. Glad I found them they were amazing at Reading it was more like watching a carnival than a band!

  • Régine is the cutest person of all time and by far my favorite female performer. Note her robot from like 2:10-2:15. She's so genuine, I wish I could personally tell her how much I admire her

  • @cousins851, if you have an open mind to recognize the greatness of bands like AF and Animal Collective, then you should be able to do the same for other genres of music and not unfairly throw the entire genre of rap under the bus. If you bothered to invest time and actually listen to it and understanding its context, you'd see the same beauty and artistic qualities that you talk about with the rock bands you mentioned. Lil Wayne included.

  • ^Everything I hate about PC, sad-sack wimps of today who are unable to tolerate that some people dare to openly dislike things.

  • 4 ppl are total dickheads

  • she isnt the hotest indie singer out their....but there something about her that makes her attractive

  • it's sad how people like Lil' Wayne and anyone else who raps, when there is great music righ here. The point is, Arcade Fire, Animal Collective, Wolf Parade, The Knife, ..etc. should get so much more credit and popular than what they are. It's amazing how people can't see the beauty and art of the music all of those bands perform. They all deserve a lot more recognition.

  • What a fucking song. Love this band. Seen them in Manchester in 2007 and they're unreal.

  • guns cant kill what soldiers cant see. so true

  • @stoffeboyei not if you spray and pray, hell your bound to hit something.

  • @meotoko77 lol been playing to much counter-strike? ;)

  • @stoffeboyei HA! I never spray and pray on CS (scouts honor), I was talking about that bullshit game MW2.

  • @meotoko77 lol I hear you. Well, My original point was really that guns don't kill, people do...

  • I soooo wanna be friends with this gang. They seem so... free.

  • I want to see these guys.

  • oh. my. god.

    phenomenal

I don't know how my friends don't love this band

  • song is fucking fantastic

  • This is one of the most phenomenal songs ever written. Only Regine can pull off something like this with her unique dancing.... She's AWESOME!!!!

  • if anyone wants to know its just E and G repeated.

  • Fantastick music!! Great band. The definition of music. Great passoin and sound.

  • wow, i loved this... new favorite band

  • Amazin song.

  • This song was played on CBC radio's Mainstreet show Jan 19, 2010 at 5:50PM. Awesome song.

Parts of it remind me of Talking Heads. That background pattern of a "watery image" sound from Once in a Lifetime.

Another part reminds me of two squealing tones made simultaneously by the TTC subway on the Yonge line. I have often heard music in my head that goes with those "notes".

  • my heart goes out to the people in Haiti. it gives this song a totally different meaning. if you know about arcade fire, then you'll understand... by the way duvalier was a dictator...

  • I love Regine's dancing :)

  • her voice is like bjork voice in live

  • they sound great live

  • i love them my favorite song is in the backseat but this song is my second

  • marry me Regine.

  • i how regine dance it look cute even tho it look like she doing the robot and i love how she sings

  • Its Québécois french is done in france

  • Probably if her hair wasn't so frizzy, that might change her odd look

  • @carjpie Yes so she can look more European than Haitian. That's it.

  • she is sooo fuckin HOT

  • for you but maybe for other people she is

  • You're right, she's not hot. She's beautiful.

  • @elmocoso im convinced that b!tch is retarded....after watching her dance and then seeing her answer a question about "nirvana or pearl jam"... damn....something up there is misfiring!

  • @drofnoise555 Cool story, bro.

  • @drofnoise555 That something is "lameness".

  • song is about the revolution in haiti hence " Mes cousins jamais ne's hantent les nuits de Duvalier" french for-"my never born cousins will haunt the nights of the Duvalier" as in Jean Claude Duvalier the Haiti'n dictator (tyrant) she came to the states/canada after the big coupe in Haiti :)

  • CRITI COEUR DE MON CUL EN FRANCAIS SVP

  • Musical taste is subjective. Know what that means? Wikipedia their Funeral album and check out the links for the critics reviews - among the very best that year and one of the best indie albums of all time. Highly talented musicians. Your opinion shows you're a mouth-breathing metal-headed idiot, and I'm guessing you're too stupid too mind. Enjoy Gojira, hellfest, and Wayne's World, mouthbreather. Your unneeded lunkhead opinion here is like some drooling derelict barged in the door.

  • Haha, it's so pathetic how you look down on other people's music taste. It really is.

    "Argayed fire" ?

Are you serious? Get off youtube. Stop ruining the music for us.

Oh, and i listened to Gojira.

    All i heard was noise.

  • If I am so pathetic why did you give me the time of day to watch GOJIRA? If argayed fire is so great how can I ruin there music for you? I got through to you. I win.

  • Hahaaha, dude, you're such a troll.

I don't even care man, I just enjoy the music.

  • @ dave1122drum...no they are not a fad, they haven't been on tour for awhile now and many people including myself can't wait for them to tour again or to hear new music from them. My evidence? you have to be naive and stupid to deny that AF has loyal fans, you only have to see more AF videos here on youtube and see all the comments of people waiting for their return. NO FAD.

  • You're an idiot. She's speaking Creole half the time, that's you can understand her.

    Hint: Song title, "Haiti"

  • Why are you so ignorant not to learn a couple of phrases in another language?

Plus, Arcade Fire is from Canada, which is an area of English and French speaking people (Creole being a form of French). So they're audience is much more broad than English speaking people.

Plus, since the song is about fleeing from Haiti it's creatively appropriate to sing in Creole. It's called art.

They took a break, that's why they've been fading. They're coming out with a new album soon and will be bigger.

  • you are right, mattman.

they took a break after 2005, then came back in 2007. they said they would be back in two years, which is 2009. they're about due, i cant wait!

  • mattman228,

the lyrics are in both English and French NOT English and Haitian Creole. I know this becuz I am Haitian

  • I love this song so fucking much... one of the Arcade Fire's more overlooked pieces but it's definitely a great one.

  • love them. always.

  • wow

  • Answer this please, is she speaking creole or is tryin to speak creole?

  • french

  • She's Haitian, so I would imagine she's speaking it correctly.

  • lol i love how she seems to be doing the robot as she sings

  • i like the style of the singer

  • saw this band live two years ago and i'm SO glad i did! they are the BEST live band i've seen in a LONG time!!!! ARCADE FIRE RULES!!!! :D by the way, this song was written about régines family in Haiti

  • marry me regine....please.

  • My brother & I just created a new Haitian band. Please check us out! Leave some love for your country!

  • NICE SONG!!!

  • I love Regine, she should sing more

  • I love this band but where are they from?

  • Canada, Eh?

  • rebellion

    probably the best song ever

  • Montreal, Canada :)

  • just saw them a couple weeks ago on austin city limits. WOW great band, love watching them perform

  • powerfull ending, I love this band so much!!

  • Régine is Queen..........Win is King

  • i love regine!

  • nice song

  • Yeah, she doesn't have the strongest voice, and it is different when she's singing both french and english, but she not a bad singer. The lyrics are so powerful and at the end when she seems to just break out of a trance and yell, it gives me chills... Check out the BBC radio session one too, it's really good

  • throw my ashes into the sea *sing*

im not complaining or so but her voice is like...i prefer the album version XD

  • is it weird I don't know French and can sing this perfectly with accents, stress and all?

  • Well Neonfoxx, I think, and I hope I don't say anythings wrong, but she's from Quebec, so I guess this is why she can speak both of theses languages without accent

  • i dont take it hard. but yeah she is from Quebec.

  • What a great song, she should sing more often.

  • uhhhh....I like Arcade Fire.

  • I do not understand why people feel the need to argue over ridiculous, minuscule things that don't even matter.

    Whatever.

Anyways, good sound quality in this video, unlike a lot of other Arcade Fire performances on the site. And this is one of my favorite songs from them.

    :)

  • WOW...this is a stupid conversation in general. who cares if someone wants to pretend they're smart or not. let them pretend and be stuck in their sleepless world of stupidity...its noones buisness.

and wat he said was true. its a lovely song, and being that im haitian, i am honored that our struggle is being exposed by her. plus the arcade fire is amazing in general.

  • @princepesa121 this acutully happen to her family she is haitian also...look it up....it is a nive song i agree

  • I just love her!!! and her husband!!! by the way, when are they going to have a kid??? it's time already!!!

  • The lyrics to this song give me the goosebumps.

  • The juxtaposition of the melody with the lyrics serves to elucidate the power of the song.

  • someone thinks their clever by using big words

  • Not really. After being stuck in academia for so long, my brain just automatically goes on "big word mode" when describing something. It's not "thinking [I'm] clever" so much as being on autopilot. I must admit, however, that I appreciate homonyms. For example I know that "their" is possessive, which means your comment should be "Someone thinks THEY"RE CLEVER by using big words."

  • you are so cool! and much have such an amazing life mate

  • Ha, that's fresh. The old 'Shit, he actually explained his actions adequately, but in the process used more big words, so I'm just going to avoid any intellectual argument by attacking his personal life, but of course delivered with biting sarcasm' approach.

  • You call it an "autopilot." I call it "trying to hide the fact that you're a fucking idiot."

We all know you "thesaurused" the shit out of your fucking youtube post.

  • So says the person who consults "The Urban Dictionary."

  • Not really. After being stuck in academia here in Los Angeles for the last two years, my brain just automatically goes on "urban word mode" when trying to put pompous jackasses on the level. It's not me thinking [I'm] "urban" so much as being on autopilot. I must admit, however, that your failure to deny such allegations, compounded by the fact that your grammar isn't nearly as "stuck in academia" as your big words are, leads me to believe that you certainly do "thesaurus" your posts. How sad...

  • I learnt both of the words 'juxtaposition' and 'elucidate' in high school English, so I don't see how he is 'trying to hide the fact that [he is] a fucking idiot.' I mean, it was kind of a pretentious comment, but that doesn't mean he used a thesaurus.

  • I'm guessing you "learnt" English in the UK? Otherwise, I'm not sure why they were encouraging you to use the word "learnt" when "learned" is more appropriate in American grammar.

Nonetheless, juxtaposition is a word used by pseudo intellectuals, or people trying to pretend they are not fucking idiots. :-) They're one in the same.

  • HEy! what they do,it's ur boi Hmane up in da beantown, but i rep 910,north kackalac mane..Im not into those type of music, but if it's about haiti..betta believe im in.napoleon dynamite is a trip at 3:54!!

  • How old are you antonio? And do you "rep" the fucktards of this world? or just representing the fucktards of 910. Either way you're doing a bang-up job. Wake the fuck up!!

  • My god !!

This song is amazing ... she's just .. no word to describe it

  • she's nice to listen to ;)

  • Vive Ayiti!

  • I just love that young lady.What a song,what a significant song,especially too native of Haiti.

    ARCADE FIRE KICKS ASS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I want to see them so badly!! Everyone who sees them live says it's unlike anything else.

  • M pa konprann sal antann lel di zam pa ka touye sa doldye pa ka touye . Eske on mounn ka eksplikem?

What does she mean when she said gun can't kill what soldiers can't see?

  • She is referring to the previous lines where she states that the unborn haunt the nights of Duvalier and nothing stops their spirit.

  • Ohh I got it. " Les foetus qui ont ete avec les baillonettes.

  • So very beautiful. I adore this song.

  • i like the way she sings. but i can understand what you are talking about.

  • She is incredibly talented though so you can forgive her for it. I do like the song though. It's very heartfelt.

  • ... mais oui, et quelle voix!! WoW

  • so beautiful.

    Mes cousins jamais nés

    hantent les nuits de Duvalier.

    Rien n'arrete nos esprits.

Guns can't kill what soldiers can't see.

  • ayiti<3

  • she sometimes sounds a bit like bjork, albeit not as screechy...

  • yes. I especially thought this with the song 'in the backseat', off funeral.

  • regine is so sexy

  • this song is always amazing live. good to see there's finally a good clip out there that [almost] captures the intensity entirely!

  • Regine kicks ass! I love this song.

  • shes awesome

  • This reminds me of the Sugarcubes.

  • It does!

Its probably a little better IMO.

  • I can`t say I like one better than the other. However, Bjork is slightly more interesting. IMO. This is a great sounding group. I don`t understand French or Iceladic. I dig this sound.

  • i just love how she dances on stage! I think she has the most fun on stage! All they're songs have really good lyrics, and then great music to back it up!
