  • Such a nice video i ever watched!!

  • AWSUM....!

  • Why did the DNA entered the alcohol layer????

  • this is a little late, lol.. But the DNA seperated out because it does no disolve in the alcohol like the other stuff does. It's like oil and water. Oil does not dissolve in water and floats on top.

  • Its the same effect as oil on water

Oil is on top of the water.

    DNA is the oil

    Water is the alcohol layer

  • Wonderful!

  • DNA can be dissolved, it can be denatured into its constituent thingymagics (phosphate, base, deoxyribose sugar). Denaturation can occur from high temperature, high concentration alkaline solution, high concentration urea and high concentration of formamide

  • Of course DNA can only be seen with a powerful electron microscope but there is such a massive amount clustered together that it appears as a tissue

  • Thanks mate~!

    5/5

  • Nice site 'n videos!

    Cheers.

  • you said alcohol will not disolve dna, just curious- what will disolve dna?

  • I believe that the positive charged Na ions bind to the negatively charged phosphate backbone of the DNA molecule, causing an opening of the secondary (and tertiary) structure. The atoms force open the molecule through steric hindrance, similar as to why all molecules have defined angles and shape. Also, they prevent the binding of positively charged histone proteins that help wind the DNA.

  • Heh that's pretty cool. The DNA looks like a bunch of fibers.

  • it's so cool that they teach the way to do it at home!!

It explained the process and theory quite well

  • ._. wow i thought the nuclius was the smallest it could get.but then it got smaller!I don't even know wat is a chromosome. 5/5 video!

  • can you look at it through a microscope O_O?

  • thanks!

  • nice 3d action

  • very helpful! I'm isolating and extracting DNA from mouse tails tomorrow and was looking for a visual/auditory aide, so this video was very helpful in understanding the step by step extraction of DNA. Thanks!

  • That was so cool! So, thats what DNA looks like! lol

  • Hila Road vids have got to be the best science for anyone type vids out there. Thanks! Looking forward to more.

  • BRAVO!!!

  • five stars man thats awsome!!!

  • hey nice video 5 stars

  • Five stars, another great video from Hila. Thank you so much, guys!

  • excellent animations

  • excellent. Thank you!

  • Awesome. Thanks a lot for these videos, they're really interesting! :)

  • this is so cool!!! I am doing this in biology on Wed.

  • looks like your teacher watches a lot of YouTube

    hahaha

  • cool

  • Five star

  • awsome vid!!

  • Great. The electrophoresis is one way to separate all the DNA and the proteins. The indirect way to know the proteins is to analyse only the weight.

    Thanks.

  • Great video. No doubt some schools now do this and I did it in university years ago. The simplicity of the extraction takes the abtract out of talking about DNA. A good way to spend a morning in the kitchen with your kids.

  • why didn't we do such things at school?
