the Tree and Herb should be Free - It was the Marijuana Tax Act 1937, that made it impossible for farmers to profit - this government doesn't deserve any revenue from their continued destruction of God's green TREE and HERB they've committed genocide on-
I'm all for decriminalization, but I'm wary of total legalization - I really do not want weed to become commercially available. Take a look at what tobacco companies have done to tobacco = it's US business and it would do the same thing. We should be free to smoke, eat, grow etc. our own, but lets not turn something pure over to the corporations.
the u.s. constitution specificaly says we have the right to put anything we want into our own bodies as long as we harm no one else. this is a civil right given to all people. it is not about what "drug" you use. it is about your actions....regardless of what "drugs" you are on at the time. some ppl have never used any "drug" and have done horrible things.

I love you Rick Steves! I think Shelley down below needs to smoke a joint then have an opinion. Think about what you say before you say it, and marijuana is NOT an ANGRY drug. It's mellow. So chill.
This argument can be applied to ANYTHING that is currently illegal: marijuana? why not heroin? IF heroin why not crack? Why does Rick regard marijuana in this special regard? The real and only reality is this: If the marjority of the people in a community, county, city, state or country want to make something illegal than it is ILLEGAL. That is just the way it is: THAT IS CALLED DEMOCRACY. Get over it.
@shelleyh55 wrote "If the marjority of the people in a community . . . want to make something illegal than it is ILLEGAL. That is just the way it is: THAT IS CALLED DEMOCRACY. Get over it."

not only should pot be legalized it should be mandatory, regulating cannabis would help the hemp industry in america take off.............explosive.research hemp friend me..
lazrul.. you are correct..... I consider refined, powdered sugar a drug, refined white flour is a drug, high fructose corn syrup is a drug, etc... if you want to see the side effects of these drugs, step outside and look at the obese people. I agree with the "man" that synthetic, processed intoxicants like cocaine and meth are dangerous, but only because synthesis and processing make them way more potent than they ought to be.
I agree totally and this has been my view for some time about where you talk about how drugs like cocaine and meth are processed to make them more potent. You don't have to put cannabis through a process to gain more benefit from it. You can simply smoke or eat more of it. It is not necessary to do to get the desired effect from the plant. It is also a part of nature. Would it be logical to try and eradicate any plant entirely to keep people from using it for natural benefit?
high fructose corn syrup is the very first gateway drug kids come across. just look at those little junkies. all wired and demanding just like typical junkies.
I had two friends who got into Marijuana, and neither is doing very well. One had an addictive personality, got married, divorced with a kid, got kicked out of junior college, and only in his 40s did he finally buy a home.
The other was a straight laced guy who delivered beer, but told me over the phone that he had to finish off a bag once he started it. His life has gone a similar path as the first guy.
THZ reqires your brain. It does NOT merely relax and sedate you.
As for my friends; doubtful. One of them may need some very mild psyciatric treatment (addictive personality and all), but the other just fell for the drug like so many others. The guy who got them into it was a short blonde dude who couldn't keep a promise if his life depended on it.
His dad was a cop. Beats me how he ever got into the stuff. Could be because his parents were divorced.
America - it's time to Stand Up and Tell the Government What We Want, not, What They Think is Good For Us. They Work For Us, NOT Us for Them. We the People are the Government While Politicians are there to Represent us and our wants, not to Restrict Us with their Morals Beliefs.
the DEA makes so much money by letting criminal organizations get larger while they investigate for like a couple years until they know where the money is than raid the place. So why would they let marijuana be decriminalize or be legal.....when they make so much money off it when its illegal. Prisons get more packed and stocks go up. its a rich mans world.
He keeps saying that people don't get arrested for possession or use in Europe, but that's not true. Spain, Italy, and the Netherlands don't arrest for use or possession (usually), but most of the other countries do. The laws in Sweden and several East European countries are just as strict as in the US.

thats stupid. drugs are generally bad. i smoked weed heavily for over a year and developed sever paranoia, and i also developed depression. on top of almost dropping out of college cause my grades slipped. some people can handle it. its not the worst drug but its not good and people shouldnt say its a good alternative.

Steve Reeves and his opinion on marijuana? Well the Europeans do it so Steve wants us to as well. Having spent half my life there, Europeans hate niggers and gypsies, perhaps we should adopt that as well.
Great, now here's Emeril with his views on the economic bail-out. Let's parade all the D-List celebs and their viewpoints out.
At the end, Rick Steves said that if we legalize it, in essence it would become as much of a hassle as having alcohol and tobacco around. And truely they suck.
In a way, he's right. Legalization is not the same as decriminalization. Legalization, I think, comes with government oversight and tax's. I don't want weed taxed. It should matter as much to them as if I smoked a bunch of leaves from the sidewalk.
Decrim only reduces charge from felony 2 misdemeanor. Gov't still fines the offender. Getting caught still=lifelong criminal record=stigma, interferes w/financial aid, jobs, even w/a dr's script. Legalizing MJ takes away the consequences; regulation would ensure the purity (no worrying about 'laced' smoke), ppl in jail for violating probation, etc. Yes, alcohol/tobacco sux but every1 must make that choice. I'm not saying UR wrong; just another way 2 look @ it.
It's absolutely amazing that Marijuana is still illegal with all the facts, data and just plain common sense pointing to this world being a better place if Cannabis became legal.
He just makes sense. Alcohol is much more addictive and dangerous than pot. Let the government take over the distribution of weed and tax it. Spend the money on something productive, like busting meth labs.
I have a new found respect for Rick Steves. I always thought he was a nerd, but now I'd like to hangout with the guy, especially if he's travelling to Amsterdam, lol.
It doesn't make any sense for USA to keep marijuana illegal-it doesn't make any sense..... we need to LEGALIZE, tax, and regulate this awesome medicnal plant!!! Support programs like these, MPP, NORML, CAN, etc, there are many you can support and not have to consume MJ just be soomeone who can make a difference!!! GO RICK STEVES and Thank You!!!

You should be able to grow marijuana like you do a tomato in your garden or grow opium poppies in your front yard flower bed...
It is none of the government's business to tax, regulate or control the natural gifts of the earth.
