  • What went wrong with the potato canon? You convinced me to never try using one and I am sending this out to others to warn them. By the way check out iLimb. They can make you a bionic partial prosthesis.

  • @kingofallwhites I believe that it was a matter of too much thermal cycling of the pvc, it just eventually became brittle from heating and cooling from firing it. I have actually worked on a couple designs for prosthetic partial hands, my only issue is that I lack the memory material I would like to have to actuate it, which is basically an electro-reactive memory rubber. Other than that, the design I have is sound LOL!

  • @jiro9cuts0001 Well I admire your strength in moving forward in life. I can imagine that must have been difficult to say the least.

  • @kingofallwhites The hardest part was actually getting past the people who seem to have a stigma about those who are deformed or have amputations similar to mine, as it happened when I was 23, it was difficult until I found a way to deal with that. Adapting to using it was easy enough, the only thing that really has me messed up now, is the fact that I was accidentally shot in December 05/ January 06 just about 20 minutes before the ball dropped for new years, and the bullet went through my arm

  • @jiro9cuts0001 I think that maybe some people see the injury and get scared that it could also happen to then- i.e. it could happen to anyone. Maybe it makes them face their mortality in a certain way. How were you accidentally shot?

  • @kingofallwhites True about that, that could well be the case. I was hit by an accidental discharge of a handgun that a friend of mine had, somehow he got a .380 round mixed in with 9mm ammo of thesame brand and type, and when he went to eject the round after releasing the mag, it didn't pull the round from the chamber. Later, he went to move the gun and it went off, faulty trigger sear spring, and the slug hit me, went through my left arm, into my abdomen, through to the other side and stopped

  • @jiro9cuts0001 Had to cut me open from my breast bone to my groin to run my bowel to find the places it was hit, and to get the bullet out. It was a Federal Hydrashock round that hit me. I'm glad I sat up and turned about 10 seconds before it went off, otherwise it would have went straight into my heart since I was facing him right before it happened. As it was I almost died from where it hit me between internal bleeding and shock. What does not kill you makes you stronger they say.

  • i know that i will never feel the pain you do. but i have a plate in my hand and i know a little bit about how shitty plates and skrews can be after a few years. like i said nothing compared to what you must go through but i know cold weather must really suck.

  • E.T. phone home.

  • maybe you shouldn't have been playing with daddy's fireworks...

  • Why would anyone think this is fake? Open your eyes and look at this................

  • Man thats a blessing that you didnt die. God was looking out for you on that one

  • @FaithfulFighters Yes, there was definitely a higher power looking out for me on that incident. The shrapnel could have killed me alone, with the one piece missing my femoral artery by less than an inch, or it could have blown up when I was thinking of firing it from my shoulder, would have taken out the carotid and jugular, maybe the brachial artery too.

  • nope, just about a 1 second shot of hairspray.

  • Yeah, there are a few things that I could have done differently, the one that blew up was a muzzle loaded 'rifle' size one, 3/4" bore with a 2" dia. chamber. If I had to do it over again, i would have wrapped the chamber and first couple feet of the barrel with 1/4" rope and duct tape in alternating layers. That would have contained any failure. I was just using AquaNet too, but it was between 50-60 shots. I think it had fallen over while not in use too, found it laying on the basement floor

  • that night before I fired it. Might have caused a hairline crack in the reducer fitting or the outside of the chamber. Had I wrapped it with rope and duct tape, I'd have been just fine i believe. Amazing how powerful hairspray can be. It just shredded my hand when the shrapnel blew. Had 22 pieces in my right thigh too, one missed my femoral artery by less than an inch. If I ever build another one, it will be welded from steel, and I'll carriage mount the danged thing LOL!

  • when did this happen adam. is this you adam. i had now idea this happen. sorry brother. that is tough. hope all is well. how is it to make weapons now for you. is it real hard. well take care bro

  • It happened about 12 years ago, yeah, when the combustion chamber ruptured, it really tore my hand to pieces. I've adapted though, the hardest thing was getting past what others thought of it, I knew I would adapt, but it made me more self conscious than anything else. Talk to you soon! Have an awesome day brother!

  • This is amazing how much movement you still have. Your disability in no way has stopped the creativity or craftsmanship of your art. I imagine things could have been far worse.

  • Yes it could have, and it almost was. One piece of the pvc shrapnel missed my femoral artery by less than an inch.

  • I'm sorry for your loss. You seem very positive. Are you ok using it? I see you are missing your thumb. How can you grasp things? I see this video is more of a reply to someone, but can I ask you to stop waisting your time with assholes, and actually make videos for fellow amputees, who might learn some tricks from you. You could show for example how to use your hand, I'm sure there would be people to appreciate that, idiots do not worth your time, but others in need might do...

  • Thank you for your supportive comments, yes, I do quite well using it as it stands, even after losing part of my feeling, and mobility that it had before after being shot through the forearm about 4 years ago. It hit the radial nerve. Anyhow, I've thought about making videos for fellow amputees, like mobility exercises and such to get the most out of what they have left. I was just in a bad mood in the first place when I madethis video, and the comment that I responded to got my ire up. LOL!

  • Hey there you replied to some of my comments on ebaums. About my friend who lost his fingers using a circular saw. A lot of people dont belive that it is you. I think if you made a video reply to the most common questions and put it on ebaums it would have a big impact.

  • I may do that, though I think that some of them are saying that isn't 'me' in a joking manner, perhaps afraid of their own mortaility. I may do that though, it might help clear things up a bit, though it may draw as much fire as it quells, LOL! Thank you for the suggestion though, as I just may do that.

  • Wow.. that.. sucks..

  • Well, all I can say is, I definitely learned from the experience. I'm just glad it didn't kill me. Came close, as a shard of pvc shrapnel came very close to my femoral artery in my thigh. 1/4" closer, and it would have opened it up and I would have bled out.

  • man , my potato cannon is going in the bin, i didnt use pressure pipe and thourght it was alright but fuck blowing my hand up i need that thing to work and make money hahaha.

i feel sorry for u man ae

  • Thanks for the support man, it could have been a lot worse, I could have been killed. Believe me, it has played a ffactor in my job search as well, I've seen more than one potential employer looking nervously at my hand over the past 12 years, despite my capacity to use it. They look at it as a sign of risk.

  • i saw this on ebaumsworld

  • Really? My video made it there? LOL! never even thought about him picking it up!

  • Yeah i saw this on ebaumsworld you might not want to read the comments budy. Not as supporting as we are.

  • Really now... hmmm, some people can be real pricks and pick apart at people who have things about them that people deem as 'abnormal'. Thanks for letting me know, I'll be making a trip over there and sticking my proverbial foot up some proverbial behinds.

  • Everyone who messes with potato cannons needs to watch this video. I will use my potato cannon video as a video response and link to your video from my video. Thanks for posting this video bro.

  • With what was left, I am amazed at your abilities and your work more now.

    You have great stuff Adam.

  • Thank you, what can I say, I learned to adapt. I know of many people that such an injury would make it feel like the end of their life, but whenever we are knocked down, we must pick ourselves back up, and continue on. Thank you for your encouragement and complements!

  • i bet he believes you now

  • LOL yes, he certainly does. He has since apologized, and is on my friends list now. That is how I'd rather have it, too easy to make enemies in this world, hard to make friends.

  • wtf kind of username is I'm in your basement sounds queer

  • Wow, that is interesting

  • LOL Yes, the things you wind up learning about people can be quite surprising, can't they? And eventhough I have had such massive damageto that hand and the nerves in my right hand, and the nerves in my left arm, I can still type almost 40 words per minute and make all the neat stuff that I make! I just can't hold a regular job, thanks to migraines and the frequent bouts of extreme pain I have from the nerve damage, it can make my hand seize up for hours. Hernia doesn't help either.

  • Really that's cool 40 words and making those weapons. Really cool and surprising stuff.

  • Just have to do what I can to overcome any percieved limitations that this gave me. I've been passed over for jobs in the past because of my hand, and that was before I wound up with all the other injuries and the damage to my right hand. The mind is the most important thing, with a strong mind and will, one can accomplish great thigns, including restoring function to something that had become virtually non-functional. Working on that with my left leg now.

  • Wow you really know how to stand up for yourself

  • Wow you mean you have sustained more injurised since this one. If you dont mind me asking could you explain the full extent of your injuries or better yet make a video. sorry this may sound morbid but i am very interested in these kind of injuries and as i am thinking of a career in developing prosthetic limbs.

  • I may make a video for you privately detailing all my injuries, since this one seemed to make its way to a public forum that I wasn't expecting it to make it to. Speaking of prosthetics, I've thoguht about making a mechanical prosthetic for the three fingers that are gone, something that would work with th flexion and extension of my wrist, though I've noticed some advances in regenerative medicine, that would be the ultimate solution. Still, prosthetics are very viable.

  • Ok cool thanks. Yeah it made it on to the front page of ebaumsworld not just in the forums. I saw it and searched for you on youtube to kinda let u know.

  • Thanks man, I appreciate it, I went over there and did my best to set some of them straight, for what good it did, there are some people that are simply of such a low mentality that no amount of showing them the other side of the story will help. I do appreciate your effort though, and thanks for subscribing to my channel!

  • whats ur accout name on ebaums world i wouldnt mind checkin some of your comments out

  • Same as here on YouTube, I try to keep things simple, LOL My MySpace is also the same for that URL. I wonder how depraved they have been while I've not been on over there today... heh.

  • damn that sucks how did u do that

  • This happened back just after Valentines Day in 1998, when I had a potato gun explode on me while firing it. I got lucky, one of the pieces of shrapnel missed my femoral artery by a little over an inch. I was holding the potato gun against my right leg at the time, the piece hit my left leg. I guess my hand took the brunt of the blast though. Was just like holding a small pipe bomb when it went off. Could have been far worse though. I might not have been here now.

  • yup u got lucky

  • adam dam no wounder you make weapon good be lady u call aliar that was good stick to her you i didnt know at all this video show that have lot of balls and gust press on to be like evey one i some disabily but i press as will !

  • Thanks man, I appreciate the support. That is about all one can do, is go on with life taking it day by day. An injury or disability doesn't change our value as a person. It is sad that some people don't hold the same view, and would rather ridicule those who do have a disability or life changing injury, but I feel that this is out of fear, more than anything else. Those that fear something, usually try to make light of it, to help them deal with it, instead of facing it. I pity those people.

  • damn, i agree with dancer pants.

  • Thanks amigo, I appreciate the support. This happened back in 1998, the night after Valentines Day. It was warm that night, so I decided to fire off a few shots from the smallest of the spud guns I had, and it misfired and blew up instead of firing properly. I think it was the combination of so many firings and the heating and cooling of the plastic that finally made it give way, as it became more and more brittle. Just like hardening steel.

  • Thank you for your support my friend, it used to be a lot easier before I was shot through the part of my arm near the elbow. Yes, they can be very dangerous, hence why I was trying to promote some safety, but got jumped on unnecessarily.

  • @jiro9cuts0001 You got shot too? Dude maybe you should move on to fishing or a hobby that is a little more safe. I hope that your are one day able to grow everything back with a company like ACell or something and their matrix powder.
