  • Most beauiful love song. I like Emillo Pericoli when the sung in englist its loose,s the romance, litalian is so beauifull. Thank you for posting this beauifull love song.

  • Beautiful song!

  • YES!!

  • I love this song. The most beautiful melody I have ever heard.Jerry and Connie Francis are the best versions.

  • Grazie!

  • I love this song, but italian songs translated into English loose most of its appeal.

  • Thanks for jerry vale sung in part of English that let me understand what is AL DI La,

my first love song over 50 years. And also my first time first date with girl to see the

great romantic movie Roman adventure,I love in all my heart and in rememberence

of my missing friend Joyce Bean

  • how beautiful, I too have Italian roots, and I'm 57, memories of sitting on my Pop Pops lap as he sang me Italian tunes, and as a teenager arriving to his home with his Italian music on his Record Player, remember them, how sweet, Though neither of my parents ever went to Italy, I was there for 20 days in 2006 and will never forget it especially visiting Rosetto, Valforte where my grandpop was from, and Rome, Tuscany, Vive Italia, thanks for these wonderful memories, I'm going back to Italy.

  • THIS IS A SONG THAT WILL FOREVER BE IN MY HEART AND IN REMEMBERENCE OF A DEAR FRIEND SAL, WHO SHALL ALWAYS BE IN MY HEART AND MIND THOUGH WE ARE FAR APART RIGHT NOW. I CAN ALWAYS BELIEVE IN DESTINY.

  • Time does make a difference.

Although I still prefer the original AL DI LA by Emilio Pericoli I appreciate very much this Jerry Vale interpretation. His voice is great, it is in English and also the quality of the sound is far superior than the old Al Di Li records of the 60's.

The movie ( Rome Adventure ), with heart throbs Susan Plashette and Troy Donahue if I am not mistaken, was very nice..

This song was one of the very greatest exits in the 60's in Europe, where I then lived..

  • 999York et al, so nice to know and see so many whose passion for real love is alive and well, love of family, tradition, desire to have solid love and connection with the generations. So very italian american, so very precious the strength of our relatives to come here and start over, more than once as we were born and grew.

  • was in Napoli from 62 until 65 and sqw rome advwnture in a thearte there and still love it

  • Also 55. beautiful song, beautiful voice. My third favorite Italian singer.

  • I was sitting ouside a bar in Rome when a guy walked past playing this tune on his guitar :)

  • This song makes me think of my wonderful Karen, whenever I listen. When I saw her at the airport, the fog around me lifted, and there she was.

  • to vincenzo, i am also 55 and can relate to the feeling! thanks a lot for sharing... to c1wang thanks for posting

  • Im 22 years old and just love Jerry's style of music! There should be more of this today.

  • @hitchdick304 I agree with you, now music is all about money, sex and drug, back in those days they sang with their heart, it was real romance, now Lady Gaga, Beyoncé, etc. they sing with their asses and tits !!!

  • High school memories..........thanks for posting.

  • Glad that you like it too, dear Nancy!

Thank you for the message. :)

    Best regards,

    Wendy

  • TOTALLY LOVELY!!!

    Thanks so much for posting,

    Gracias!

  • I am so thankful for your message as well. -Best regards, Wendy

  • I grew up listening to this song because of my parents.I love this in as much as they do because of it's melody and lyrics.Jerry Vale is a great singer.

  • I'm sitting here with tears flooding my eyes listening, and by this you know I am italian. My Daddy used to sing me in his arms when I was so very small. I am 55 this year, so think of how profound this is for me.

What a blessing Jerry Vale truly is, and what a father and mother God gave ,e. We had nothing, but we were affluent with one thing, love.

    A tutti amore

    Vincenz`

  • Dear Vincenz,

Thank you for writing and sharing your feelings here.

    Very best regards,

    Wendy

  • To Vincenzo4b: I could relate to how you feel. Jerry Vale was my mother's top favorite singer. I too am now 55 years old; my mother passed away suddenly in 1986, and I still miss her to this day. Listening to Jerry Vale songs is my way of being with my mother every now and then. To c1wang, thanks so much for posting this song and with the lyrics.

  • Dear Mahabs95, Thank you for sharing.

Very best regards to you, Wendy.

  • @vincenzo4b Same age as you and felt the same way (tears in my eyes). Although my dad did not sing this song. This song played on our radio and I knew all the Italian-Americans in our neighborhood loved it. My dad's song (meaning our song - my Mom) was "My Happiness" by Connie Frances.

  • @vincenzo4b Yes I understand - Our parents had so much love soul and heart to pass down- Different times when we absorbed their love and passions- all the while respecting them for who and what they were, and where they came from!- Many children today talk to their parents like they are their schoolyard chums-- They have no feeling for any past older than a day

  • Jerry Vale is the greatest Italian singer of all time..along with Mario Lanza, the late great Pavoratti, and Enrico Caruso...

  • Jerry was great, his great voice will live on.

  • la prefiero mil veces en italiano en ingles pierde su esencia

  • one of the most premier singers of our time, takes this classic song to a level that is just beautifull to the sound of one ear listening to this great, all time romantic song from time past. great upload!!!

  • I love this song.

  • Al di la! :)

  • Famous vocalist, well respected for other endeavors but this is the wrong song, wrong context, wrong contribution to the spirit of the atmosphere surrounding that which the song really had/has, wrong emphasis and well, just, comparatively, not getting it right at all. Not his fault. Taken out of the scenes in which the two actors were actually falling in love, during the song, at/in that very moment when Al Di La was heard, that magic moment, this rendition does not, cannot evoke or duplicate.

  • i just love this man i am so happy i found this site

  • Love ya, Connie and Jerry! Wish Mario could have sung this one, too

  • what are the lyrics in italian

what do they mean in english

  • Dear friend,

The lyrics are right on the screen.

    Best regards,

    Wendy

  • Thank you. This one of the most romantic songs and Jerry sings it so well.

  • JERRY VALE sings AL DI LA.

WOW!!! A music from beyond TIME!!!It brings sweeet memories from yesteryears.I love it. A great song from a great singer of our time, CONNIE FRANCIS & JERRY VALE. Thanx for posting it.

  • The one and only Jerry Vale. My aunt loved him and played his Lp's all of the time. She got me hooked on him. She is gone now and this brings back good memories. Thank you.

  • I love his voice!!

  • Thanks for this version. Beautiful.

  • Jerry Vale sings this song so well, Bravo!!,and it is nice to read these meaningful Lyric's, also @ YouTube Marc Jones Vocalist sings standards Nice Voice!!take a look!!

  • Listening to this music and listening to the powerful voice of Mr. Vale reminds me of my childhood of when my Grandmother would be in the kitchen cooking pasta and blasting his music on the stereo. God, i miss those days.

  • I have similar memories and I miss those times too. :)

  • una de las mejores canciones romanticas gracias !!

  • I never tire of hearing this wonderful song. One of THE most beautiful melodies ever written in any genre.

  • It's Jerry Vale's Birthday today the 8th of July, if he is a "You Tuber" happy birthday Jerry, wih many many more to come.

  • Echoing happy birthday to one of the few left from the Golden Age...what a beautiful voice in such a handsome man. Many happy returns of the day, Mr. Vale.

  • YouTubers might also be interested in 'auditioning' the version of this tune done by the Ray Charles Singers. They were a marvelous ensemble in the early '60's that recorded on the Command label and put out other greats like 'Cuando Calienta el Sol'(aqui en la playa...).

  • PS: Does anyone know anything about the composer (Labati) Carlo Donida? I have been quite unable to find out anything about him on the 'Net. Wonder if he's still alive and still composing. I do know that Giulio Rapetti (aka Mogol) IS still active as a lyricist in Italy. Both would be in their 70's by now.

  • Al Di La means something like Beyond the Beyond or a notion of something existing without limits - love in this case. A person can study languages for years and still get tripped up by those darned idiomatic expressions that don't readily translate!!!

  • One of the most beautiful melodies sung beautifully by both Emilio Pericoli and Jerry Vale. The original Italian lyrics are not easily translatable to English but both Jerry Vale and Connie Francis (who also has a great version) give the English lyrics a good try.

  • CDMom is quite correct - it's the incomparable Jerry Vale although Emilio Pericoli originally had the hit with it in "Rome Adventure" with Suzanne Pleschette and Troy Donahue (a no talent if ever there was one).

  • This is great to be able to hear this song again. The singer is Jerry Vale. I have some of his old lp's. I never tire of listening to good songs.

  • Great voice, beautiful song. Some of my best memories were the big family events with my mom's side of the family--Italian, of course. The old timers would sit together playing cards--usually connasta and set-back--drinking wine, and yelling at each other in Italian. My grandfather would send me to get more wine and beers inside the house. This music was always playing. Now, the old timers are gone, and it's just not the same.

  • Lovely. I thought it sounded a bit like little Perry Como at first.

  • Oldiesmom is correct. This is Jerry Vale's recording. The original movie version was sung by Emilio Pericoli and there was also an instrumental in the movie played by Al Hirt on the trumpet.

  • I´m looking for a song Jerry Vale recorded in 1969. It was written by Tony Romeo. It is "Hello and goodbye". Anyone knows about a video?

    Thank you.

  • I know for sure that the vocalist is Jerry Vale. I have the Cd with him singing it and I know its him. Oldies Mom

  • Thank you so very much for the precious information.

  • People might also want to check out this video clip: "Emilio Pericoli Al Di La" from the american movie - Rome Advanture.

    Enjoy!

  • I did, let me tell you he is no Jerry Vale. When JV sings all others fade by comparison.

  • Which one is not? Sorry... and thanks.

  • Emilio Pericoli, is no Jerry Vale, I looked at the video of him singing this song, it just does not compare with JV, thanks for posting this video.

  • Sorry that I don't have info about the performer. It might be Dean Martin, I am not sure. If you happen to know who he is, please do let us know; the artist certainly deserves the credit. Thanks.
