  • Malkmus has more musical talent in his pinky, either one, than Mark Smith has in his head. I only say this because of Mark Smith's rants against Pavement.

  • I LOVE The Fall and I like Pavement. My problem with this cover is that it sounds like a shitty jam band (except for the fact that it's not 20 minutes long...thank god).

  • if you think they're mocking the fall, check their tribute to REM "unseen power of the picket fence". that and ibold was rocking a fall shirt during the reunion tour. this is done with love. not to mention s&e sounds a lot like hex enduction hour

  • an old family favourite.

  • Pf. Fall rage filtered to please nineties teenagers. Where is the madness? the genius? Although I have to admit these guys have good taste in music.

  • what a truly shit band

  • So are they trying to mock the fall with this song?

  • I'm usually not a fan of covers as a general rule of thumb, but I actually enjoy this one. I like how lazy and relaxed it is.

  • MESSAGE FOR YER: Mark E. Smith hates Pavement. He nearly beat up a friend of mine for mentioning them. But then he left the Hotel Amnesia, and he had to go there. Where it happened to be, he couldn't remember. But THEN HE COULD REMEMBER THEN HE COULD REMEMBER.

Not a very good cover, but then, nobody's ever done a decent cover of The Fall have they?

  • I'm sorry, don't wanna be rude but... it's. Yuck.

  • This is a John Peel Session. Shame it doesn't have John saying, " You've made an old man very happy," at the end. I have it on cassette somewhere.

  • It sounds like Television trying to interpret a well-known Fall song. Sorry I don't think this really works.

  • is this a cover or tribute,

  • Where are the obligatory niggers?

  • @rothkowitz hey there fuck face :)

  • @rothkowitz That's exactly what I was thinking!

  • I'VE NEVER FELT BETTER IN MYYYY LIFE. I love Pavement but The Fall is my favorite band, and this is a terrible cover.

  • Oh no!! Lighttheburnedmatch's channel seemed to of dissapeared! He had all kinds of rarer songs like this :( I accidentally clicked a link to greenlander like a year ago and thats how I discovered, and fell in love with pavement. This was my second pavement song and I hated it but it grew on me and is now one of my favorites! I remember listening to this and playing the orange box haha!I'm super sad that that guys channel is down:( he let me find my favorite band and i wanted to thank him

  • See they bypassed the classical line, 'Where are the obligatory niggers?' ;)

  • fkkn BARF....do you own material,if that is even possible.

  • Disturbingly enjoyable interpretation. Delirious in its contrast to The Fall's paranoia. Nice tip of the hat to Mr. Smith.

  • Pavement are just so elegently laid back it's perfect, great cover of a great song by a great band (The Fall) by another great band (Pavement).

  • They were so high..

  • Plagiarism is progression. Pavement are cool. The Fall are their daddies :)

  • it's as if malkmus didn't have the balls to use the original lyrics.

  • Fuck off gimps. BTW-why don't you repeat the lyrics accurately?

  • Don't get me wrong I like Pavement but this is not a good cover. The appeal for me in the original song was Smith's ranting and ramblings, and Malkmus' deadpan delivery doesn't do it justice.

  • So it is really possible to butcher one of the best songs of all times.

  • Wrong chords, too.

  • hey mario, might have know it was you who posted this!.. you've started quite thread here... I say maybe this is not as good as the fall, but some other pavement songs are better than some fall songs; though the fall are one of the greatest bands ever, alongside the brian jonestown massacre and the stooges, with pavement hot on their heels..

  • whatever floats your boat gents, both good , is it a competition????

  • Ugh, SSDD. I bet some of you blowhards love hanging out on interpol video comments sections talking about joy division too, FFS...

Only the REALLY OLD, as in Gary Young era Pavement sounds anything like The Fall at all. Mostly because the latter sounds like a bunch of marginally talented teenagers who just picked up their instruments for the first time yesterday. JMO. Once Pavement got Westie they kept getting better as musicians and as a band... much more melodic.

  • @7H353U5

    We've repetition in the music

And we're never going to lose it.

  • newb deleted my comment is obviously oblivious to the original.

  • The Fall is my favorite band, but pavement is one of my favorites. And yes Pavement was influenced by the Fall, and the Fall version is beter, but I see it as them honoring the Fall, not debasing them.

  • @VALUST17 who cares ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?

  • @VALUST17 straight up ? ? ? ? ??? ??

  • utter crap the fall are so much better

  • em naw man

  • holy shit the original is so much better

  • All pavement ever did was rip off The Fall,so it's fucked up that they'd cover them

  • oh hush, where would music be today if bands didnt rip each other off? Pretty sure rock and roll wouldn't exist if the white boys didnt rip off blues. The Fall and Pavement are both awesome, but I like the original a bit better.

  • and the fall have been influenced by captain beefheart,

    your point is......?
