  • You will get flames like that out of any car if it is hitting the rev limiter and has enough heat in the exhaust to ignite it. I have seen non turbo cars doing it. (also in bush bashers haha) half the exhaust missing and glowing red hot sliding around in second gear yep get the flames happening. probably not that cool tho!

    The banging noise is a spark cut rev limiter - my car has one (Search "ED XR6 flamage"). Lots of aftermarket computers do.

    Youtube search "Bee R limiter" if you want to see more in action.

    Most of the landcruisers tuned here use MoTeC for rev limiting or use bouncing valves

    But, a big wastegate and/or a MoTeC does that too ^_^

    No, a big wastegate does not make loud exploding noises like gunshots.

    MoTeC is a brand of aftermarket computer, like Haltech, Microtech etc, all of which have the option for spark or fuel cut as a form of rev limiting.

    A rev limiter is only a tiny fraction of the things they can do.

    I assume by 'bouncing valves' you mean 'valve bounce' which is very bad, NOBODY "uses" valve bounce as a rev limiter!!

  • Weld an external wastegate shut and see how explosions will occur lol.. too much boost and fuel creates rich petrol explosions.. or a motec can do that to limit the rev.. I know all kinds of aftermarket ECUs we use in the UAE like MoTeC, Haltech, Autronic, GReddy, HKS, etc. they all can be programmed to limit the rev at a certain RPM but! .. most of the garages here say that wastegates depending on turbo sizes can make these explosions because of the rich petrol and rich boost into the turbo.

  • Second thing, bee R and other rev limiters are made here just for show it's electronically programmed to rev limit, that's right and does the same thing that the land cruiser does and I saw your video and it's the same too! but like I said, a single turbo and a wastegate does that too if there is rich petrol in the process =]

  • You are so wrong. Wastegates have nothing to do with it. The banging noise is fuel burning in the exhaust instead of the engine.

    When you hit rev cut on a car with a spark-cut limiter the computer stops firing the spark plugs but continues firing the injectors.

    Raw fuel and air enters the exhaust manifold and ignites due to the heat from the exhaust, where it burns explosively, making the noise and flames you hear.

    Nothing to do with the wastegate at all.

    I saw the vid and sounds exactly the same, so you're telling me for example I have a stock 1JZ with the stock twin turbos if I put a Megasquirt on it would do the same sound? AND where can I buy megasquirt from if it does the same sound without having to buy a motec which is quite expensive here in my country.

  • I don't know much about the megasquirt. The base model appears to be fuel only, so if you kept your stock computer and set the rev limiter on the megasquirt higher than factory it would probably do the bang/flame trick.

    I'm not sure if the megasquirt is the way to go for your car though...ideally you should find someone who is good at tuning the type of car you drive, and see what they suggest.

  • Oh thanks for the information, never knew that at all! they all say it has to do with wastegates and injectors.. but anyways, I've seen your video and wow the sound is exactly the same.. so for example if I have a stock 1JZ with it's stock twin turbos, if I add a megasquirt into it? would it produce the same sound? if yes then where can I get one from and how much does it usually cost? I was planning on buying a Motec just for the rev limitation.

    The spark cut limiter has nothing to do with the wastegate. The wastegate controls boost pressure, the limiter controls engine RPM. The flames might be coming out of the gate but that just means the gate is open.

    I have a great pic of my car on a skidpan with the spark cut limiter in action, blue flame coming out the gate and the tailpipe at the same time, looks great.

  • @darbet83 It is dumping through an unmuffled gate, however, the bangbangbangbang noise is not CAUSED by the gate. The noise is CAUSED by fuel burning in the exhaust, it's just heard/seen coming out of the gate because the gate is not plumbed back into the exhaust system. Most people call them 'screamer pipes' when they aren't plumbed back, because they're fucking noisy (and very awesome).
