you can tell from the first note that this song comes from his heart. It never fails to bring a smile to my face, thank you peter for your wonderous music :) God bless you
Great song. One of the things that kills me about his playing is how effortlessly he can get a rhythmic slap out of the strings without using his thumb. More practice ahead of me...
@bruno280678 It may not sound hard, but try playing it. Its alot harder than it looks, especially to get it sounding the way Peter does. Its one of those songs where one tiny mistake will ruin the whole thing!
@bruno280678 Lets see you play it then. I to thought it was easy and then i bought the tabs and tried to make it sound like him and it's a hard song to play.
Definately my favorite song by peter. Amazing melody, lots of power in this song. I definately feel inspired to learn. I should go pick up my guitar now.
this guys music is so beautiful, I like i tbetter than a lot of the candyrat artists, more so for the excellent sense of melody, and the fact that I can actually follow everything that's happening haha.
man I bet the action is sooooo low on that, not only does his slapping with his index and ring finger make me think that but that little technique he does in the chorus around 1:21 where he barely lifts off of the 5th and 6th stings.
I highly doubt that he makes his own guitars for that reason alone, it's probably more to suit his playing style or because he's unsatisfied with the way many commercial guitars sound.
i've always wanted to be a guitar luther, for the simple fact im really good with my hands. and to be able to see something i created sound as beautiful as this ^^, then i think that'd be the ultimate satisfaction.
If you want to then go for it! There are so many resources out there now that if you are willing to put the time in its very possible to do, even with a minimal amount of tools and a moderately small budget. In fact, Peter was one of the reasons I got into lutherie :).
I must say, Peter's guitar sounds amazing. The tone is unlike anything I've heard. An all around guitar master.
And I respect composers who are confident enough in themselves to convey their message without the over-the-top flashiness of the modern world. He doesn't seem like he's out to prove anything, and that he truly enjoys his work.
MartaineJr is right, a lot of the time people say that they play guitar for a number of years, but if they don't practice daily then that's another case. Practicing a few hours every day for a year would probably get you to play this song, but ciluzzi plays in a weird style.
Ive being playing for 7 years, i only started getting serious 4 years ago, which means practising everyday for at least an hour in total.
To get this good need to do the above as well as be taking tips from vids like this and experimenting with them/having a guitarist teaching you this kind of stuff.
depends on your willpower and how much you'll like to play guitar, you can certainly get this good.
as for how long it will take, it'll take at least a year to be able to play things like this(estimate, i'm not sure how hard it is to play), it won't be perfect and it won't sound the same but you'll probably be able to play it if you practice playing the guitar on a daily basis for a year.
To get this good, you will have to practice everyday. Just playing the same stuff over and over, but also learn new stuff. However to get a good feel, you must play a lot. Some people have it naturally, some people don't.
Ciluzzi has his own take on fingerstyle. He is very toned down compared to players like Don Ross and Antoine Dufour. This makes him a bit more underappreciated. Its because a lot of people like fingerstyle for the flashy techniques. They're great techniques but some people only pay attention to that and not the music. Peter Ciluzzi is a person who is capable of all this but chooses not to use it. He's an outsider with one of the most profound heart and ears for music.
One thing I have always noticed. I love listening to these guys but the one thing that tends to bother me is not the fact that people post covers of their songs, but I only wish they would take the time rather than learning the songs, to come up with their own material. That is what people like Ciluzzi, Mckee, etc. all do. Granted it is good to learn them for inspiration, listen to them for style, but only learning covers of other guitarists will never help you enhance your own creativity.
But how will u learn if u start by trying to make your own song, I mean doesnt every1 practice other songs to learn. I think its very hard to write own music, and something like this....I think theres nothing wrong with covers, people just like to show there talents.
i understand what you mean in that its hard to create this 'kind' of music without learning a few covers, but mschwartz23 has got it right, the reason these guys are playing for candyrat is their approach to original material, the many covers you see from other people will rarely find themselves on a label, or even playing live for matter
@lilmark816 Actually I made the mistake of studying theory and writing before I took the time to learn others' songs. I should have learned covers before trying to write, but I'm going on 6 years playing now and do just fine. It's just a funny thing when someone asks "can you play..." "no" lol
@McBoothie94 Not at all! thats how you learn different styles which can help mend your own style! I was just stating how will you learn how to play songs or write your own music without have practiced/learning other songs before you first start playing! Cheers, Mark
I'm all for originality, but I also love a good cover song. Its a really good way for a musician to distinguish themselves from other musicians by providing common ground to compare and contrast over.
The tuning for this song is CGDGCD. I bought the tabs a couple of days ago. Get ready to be frustrated. This song is way harder than it looks. The percussive taps he does every quarter note are nearly impossible. As far as Candyrat Records goes I would put this guy and Robert Taylor at the top of the heap. Andy McKee and Don Ross are obviously good but they don't have near as much style and originality.
Just my opinion as well, but I don't think it would be accurate to say that Mckee or Ross don't have "near as much style or originality" as this guy. This guy's originality is just that... it pertains to him. So it will obviously be different than theirs. I think you meant to say, "in my opinon...etc."
In my opinion these guitarplayers shouldn't be compared anyway, for the obvious reasons that you were able to point out so well. Just enjoy the music :)
I'm digging all Peter's tunes. He's got some great music that's quite different from Andy and Antoine. My only problem with Peter is that he doesn't give enough priority to tempo and does too much rubato playing where it doesn't fit.

I dont think that is right beanlud, I find his music extreamly well written, probably with a lot of effort put into it. His playing style is complex and clean, no errors and the timing is perfect, beautiful sustain. Maby this looks easy in the video but that shows how exellent control Peter has over his instrument. You should try it, It´s harder than it looks....
All of these Candy Rat records musicians should get together and make one big rockin DVD along with many bonus extras like lessons, how they do it, and funny outakes. Especially Peter, I believe his compositions are some of the best to come from CRR.
Yeah I bought the DVD a while back, and while their playing is superb...it lacks extras and the usual band dvd stuff...I am learning a bunch of these musicians stylings and it would be nice to have a lesson video to go along with the style of playing....ahem...MR. RPoland!!!
I have yet to find a candyrat musician I dislike. All of these guys are geniuses of the highest caliber. These guys should be teaching the next generation how to play guitar...not Drake Bell... or any of these other tv made musicians. I petition Candyrat for a guitar lesson dvd with this guy Andy Mckee and Dean Mcgraw as the main teachers. Id buy it.
I fail to see how every single song on this account doesn't have a 5 star rating. I guess if you're into other types of music I can understand, but to give any less than a 5 is an injustice to music IMO. These guys are incredible.
Very nice composition. Interesting style. Question though, Alexandre4090 commented that Peter made this guitar. Is that true? If so, WoW! then that's amazing. Not only is Peter a fine guitarist/artist/composer, he is also a wonderful craftsman as well. God Bless.
I think he means to imply that the tone needs to consider atkins. I merely think the guitar sounds big boned, and could stand to lose a few pounds, but isn't close to chunky. Be more understanding Adam, not all tone are graced with superior genetics.
you can tell from the first note that this song comes from his heart. It never fails to bring a smile to my face, thank you peter for your wonderous music :) God bless you

Peter seems very different from the others,
but that is true also for the other artists, they all have their unique style and skills

can they really be compared to each other?
or is there a point in it?

All of these Candy Rat records musicians should get together and make one big rockin DVD along with many bonus extras like lessons, how they do it, and funny outakes. Especially Peter, I believe his compositions are some of the best to come from CRR.

yes. there is already a mckee/dufour dvd but that sounds good. (if your reading this mr poland)

Yeah I bought the DVD a while back, and while their playing is superb...it lacks extras and the usual band dvd stuff...I am learning a bunch of these musicians stylings and it would be nice to have a lesson video to go along with the style of playing....ahem...MR. RPoland!!!

I think all your music is peacefull and relaxing and makes me want to play my guitar even though I'm no where as near good as you.

Wow ! I really got into the guitar ... it's pretty dark and has a strong smell of wood.

Haha, smooth my friend. You forgot that awesomeness that's coming out of it

Id buy it.

look for a don ross instructional video. i believe that is where andy mckee learned how to play

I bet most viewers look mostly at the left hand fingering....but it's the right hand that really makes this song come alive.
Great piece !

I fail to see how every single song on this account doesn't have a 5 star rating. I guess if you're into other types of music I can understand, but to give any less than a 5 is an injustice to music IMO. These guys are incredible.

Do these guys just... sit in a room, and a magical melody just pops into their head or something? How can you compose stuff like this...
just6822 4 years ago
They are the genius composers of our time. The instrument has changed from piano/ harpsichord/ organ to classical, acoustic ,and electric guitar.

Very nice composition. Interesting style. Question though, Alexandre4090 commented that Peter made this guitar. Is that true? If so, WoW! then that's amazing. Not only is Peter a fine guitarist/artist/composer, he is also a wonderful craftsman as well. God Bless.

This guy writes from the heart! Great song!

It also seems to distort very slightly at the louder bits. I don't know why i'm being so analytical, it's a really nice tune.
AdamWoodhams 4 years ago
His guitar is tuned so low, that if he hits it too hard, or is his finger's even SLIGHTLY out of place, then the tone changes.

CILUZZI: fine handcrafted guitar, superior tone, made by hand, one at the time, by Peter Ciluzzi.

Very nice. Volume could afford to be raised a bit, as it's below normal audio leveling, I could barely hear the beginning.

Guitar sounds really chunky. Make of that what you will. It's only a comment from one of the 6 billion people on this rock.
AdamWoodhams 4 years ago
it would actually help if you explain what "chunky" means.
kimchiman777 4 years ago
I think he means to imply that the tone needs to consider atkins. I merely think the guitar sounds big boned, and could stand to lose a few pounds, but isn't close to chunky. Be more understanding Adam, not all tone are graced with superior genetics.

thanks for clearing that up, manmanster. now i can die in peace :)

Personally, I love the "chunky" ones. Gives you something to hold on to.

For some reason the bass notes often don't sound very well defined. Chunky like big wooden skittles hitting each other as they fall down.
It's a lovely song though, full of pathos.

thats a cool comment though
