@Mercu4a hmmm that's weird Im playing COD 4 @ 50-60FPS... yeah, and I'm running a virtual machine with windows in it, running age of empires 3 with all EP's @ max settings just like halo 2 :D what was that you were saying?
@JoelB3783 Do you actually realize that mac is not for gaming, yes it can run games, but old games. With same amount of money you can get a perfect gaming laptop and run latest games on it. I don't say that macs are bad, i am going to get macbook this week but not for gaming, for my work. It's perfect OS but i will still use my main PC (windows) to play games.
There is a reason Apple doesn't go the way of everyone else and license their OS for anyone to use; Apple is the only remaining "luxury" computer manufacturer, and to keep their place in the "elite" market, they must never become "just another clone," or run-of-the-mill software company. If you cannot afford a Mac, there are plenty of other affordable options out there. It's like asking Mercedes-Benz to sell emblems so you can just tack them onto your Hyundai or Toyota without paying for a Benz.
@bbishoppcm The only remaining luxury computer manufacturer? How about Dell with the Alienware line? There's a reason OS X is only $30. Apple focuses on their hardware and makes it all proprietary. Because they are the only company that makes Mac hardware, they can set any exhorbitant price they want. Why would I buy a $3,000 Mac Pro with hardware thats outdated by at least a year, sometimes more, when I can build a Hackintosh with better performance for 1/3 the price?
@DComm15 Alienware? luxury? no, Alienware caters to hard-core gamers who cannot (or are not willing to) build their own stuff. Apple caters to two markets; education, and the "yuppie" crowd (the same people who buy Bang and Olufsen stereos, and shop at Sak's Fifth Avenue). Apple designs their software and hardware to work together, eliminating any compatibility issues. Apple doesn't want to be in the software business; they want to sell the user an "experience," for better or worse.
@bbishoppcm Yes, Alienware is overpriced too. My point is that there are no significant performance benefits from buying a Mac Pro for $3,000 rather than building one yourself for 1/3 that. But the benefits of building one go far beyond just performance to cost ratio. You have the experience of building your own machine, which is amazing bc you learn a TON of stuff when you do your research for parts and stuff.
@bbishoppcm You also have the ease of having a recording studio Mac on one drive and gaming beast on another. The possibilities of a custom built machine are endless. Its very simple to get parts that have amazing performance (a lot of them (the video card for example) are better than what you get on any of the Mac Pro's, even the $5,000 model)and work flawlessly with OSX. You wouldnt know the difference except that its in a different case.
You should try windows 8, apple is getting old ;) It takes 12 sec to start a windows 8 computer with this prossecor AMD Fusion Dual-Core C-50 APU/1.0GHz.
@TheFaroeme I did I am triple booting between mac Lion - Win 8 beta- Ubuntu. I am impressed it's the first OS i could see on desktop - net-book - tablet - phone without any modifications. Same os on all 4. This is what i am hoping that android will become. Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeese google Android - Chrome - and Chromium have to come together in a sexy three-way
Let's think about this... Which computer still has better specs? Which computer will last longer? Which computer is more attractive? Which computer has a backlit keyboard? Which compter has an optical drive? Which computer has a multitouch trackpad. MacBook Pro wins by default.
my macbook pro boots in 20 sec's every time. but mine is a 2011 core i7, chances are mine is a newer better version of a macbook pro than that one. but it is funny, that macbooks cost so much more and that little dell booted faster. but what sucks is you cant do multi gestures and lite keyboard and stuff like that. you have to buy a mac to get those features.
@DjHottspinz209 to install mac OSX on a PC based computer, you will have a better chance installing it on a machine that has nVidia graphics card, and an intel based processor. i used to have a HP pavilion dv7 and i successfully installed it on there, but i couldn't get the wifi to work and when i tried to update through ethernet, when i booted back up my computer crashed. so you should look for a computer with nvidia graphics and an intel processor of some sort.
You most likely have alot more on the macbook pro because i have a hackintosh and a macbook pro and the hackintosh is so much more slow because i have a whole lot of applications on it over my mac
@L96A1PwNer what will you rather pay: for a better chassis and a more or less decent screen (that anyway can be easily damaged by the same stuff as regular ones), or to use the money you saved to buy even better hardware and software, and that can be easily replaced in case they somehow become damaged? also, if you want a better chassis, you can search one that fits your needs, and still pay less for a better machine. just like people, its more about "the sould" than "the body".
its funny that the fact is that a shitty cheap dell can even boot faster than a macbook pro, even an ibook g3 can boot alot fastr than a macbook pro, it was a video on youtube!
@SecretAgiant1A Yes cause you can afford it, so can i but some of the lower income doesn't get to experience the greatest OS too date, so they have to make with sub par windows. Apple could easily license OS10 to other makes, but they insist on being a hyper controlling company. Monopoly is not conducive to inovation. Thanks for a comment.
@kittykat2670 I would say small screen no more then 12", small solid state drive no more then 64GB, and fan-less CPU like atom N470.No more then thee pounds. Now you have a good net-book. I have dropped, kicked, and abused my dell but it's still running strong after three years.
Dude fix your MBP. That is not a normal start up time for it. The MBP gets to the Apple screen in 3 seconds vs 10 seconds for the Dell mini. Thats a sign that the MBP is booting 3 x faster then the Dell. Than it hangs on the Apple screen. Fix it!
...my 15" MBP 2.4 C2D has an almost full 500gb HDD, which i use for just about everything (Graphic Design, Video Editing, Music Production, etc.) and it boots up in 1like 12 seconds...granted it has a hybrid drive in it...but even before i put the hybrid drive in, it wouldn't boot up in any more than 20 seconds tops. It probably has a 5400rpm hard drive in it...because i have never seen a macbook pro boot that slow...even my old powerbook G4 booted up in less than 40 seconds.
That MacBook Pro needs a fresh install, I have the late '09 Unibody White MacBook C2D 2.26Ghz 2 GB DDR3 Ram 250 GB HDD and my MacBook boots up in 16 seconds. Once the Pro get's a fresh install, SSD or not the MacBook/Pro will smoke that Netbook as it rightfully should, because at the end of the day a Netbook is a Netbook and a Laptop is a Laptop. Not that I'm knocking Netbook's or anything, they are great little machines.
@strker99 Thanks for your comment. By now the point of this video is mute, since mac book air has SSD. I have 2010 Unibody MacBook Pro but i still take Dell with me to school cause Chrome and open-office run on both pretty good and if i drop $300 Net book, "no big whoop"

Its all about specs, and let me tell you that most times you dont need a great screen, but the basics are a decent processor, a good amount of ram, and maybe a decent graphics card to work with 3d, and not a big shiny chassis.
