Within You Without You is not a psychedelic song. It's a Classical Indian Raga Rock. There's nothing psychedelic about it. People considered it to be psychedelic because it was a music genre that's never been heard of during that time.
I thought this video was going to be of Beatles songs that are very Indian style. Like "Within You Without You", "I Will", and of course, "The Inner Light"
it wz a great pick, but ithink the top five should go like 5. Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds 4. I Am The Walrus 3. A Day In The life 2 Starwberry Fields Forever 1 Tomorrow never Knows. A day in the life is my favorite beatle song but it is not that all psychedelice. WYWY was named #!. if that was the case I would probably repace it with Love You to
The correct order of those 10 songs is (from best to worst): A Day in the Life, Strawberry Fields Forever, Tomorrow Never Knows, I'm Only Sleeping, Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, Fixing a Hole, I Am the Walrus, Within You and Without You, Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite.
How WYAWY made #1 is beyond me. As far as George's songs of Eastern influence go, Love You To is light-years ahead of WYAWY.
here is what i think about this, 1 should be tomarrow never knows, 2 within u with out u,3 i am the walrus, 4 strawberry field, 5 a day in th life, 6 lucy in the sky , 7 mr kite, i dont kno about she said, im only sleepin, and fixing a hole thay dont seem psychedelic to me but great vid
it's a hard discussion. John's songs were very psychedelic, George took the Indian bits, whereas McCartney had a baroque poppy style (Eleanor Rigby, Fool on the HIll). Is that also psychedelic? I think it is, whenever it expands your way of thinking, dreaming, feeling et cetera
@worldcitizenforever Oh I see where you're coming from now. I know there are way better psych. bands/songs, but I thought you were denying that they had a few psych. tracks. I agree that a lot of the songs on the youtube video aren't psych. I mean they may be good to listen to while under the influence of drugs, but it doesn't make them psych.
@worldcitizenforever Not all of them are psychedelic, but songs like "I Am Walrus," and "Lucy In the Sky With Diamonds" def are. I'm taking a music class and in the psychedelic section it mentions some of these songs and also in all the music classes I've taken. No one said all their music is psychedelic. A majority of their psych. music were on two albums "Srgnt Peppers" and "Magical Mystery Tour." And I don't need to learn a lot about music.
Great selection. I see what you mean even if some of the comments miss the point. They were great times but it is hard for some observers to reflect what was going on.
keeping an eye on the world going by my window....My favorite song by far though is strawberry fields forever. No song ever written played or recored comes close to the genious of that song. You all know you agree too, dont you?
Tomorrow Never Knows is the right shit for me! I love that song! Talking about Psychedelic, LSD and Within You and Without You comes at number two and three respectively!
On the second time John took acid, Peter Fonda was with his group. He kept on saying to John, "I know what it's like to be dead," and everyone else was like, "Shut the fuck up! Nobody cares!" lol
@LegoJoker68 i think your mistaken my comment im not talking about the song revolution im talking about the song revolution 9 on the white album, of course i dont think revolution is a phycadelic song but if you havent heard revolution 9 the check it out and come back to me on your comment
Im wondering what happened to the companion of Strawberry Fields For ever... Penny Lane? Otherwise a good list, although I cant agree with Within Without You as number 1.... that honor goes to LSD.
i do not think a day in the life is Psychedelic, naby the transition part with the huge orchistra is but the song in general is a very mellow fun song.
Lol, heres my listing 1. tomorrow never knows 2. within you without you 3. lucy in the sky with dimonds 4. i am the walrus 5. strawberry feilds forever 6. being for the benefit of mr. kite 7. she said she said 8. only a northern song 9. a day in the life 10. it's all too much :)
@oeyapeon Sir Paul McCartney has said many times how people can put whatever meaning they want into songs. He has said also that 'Fixing A Hole' is not about drugs. It is about as he has stated fixing up around a home, maybe a hole in the roof etc.
The Beatles psychedelic period was Revolver-Magical Mystery Tour. That really only leaves three albums, and Sgt. Pepper has a lot of psychedelic stuff. So I can see why it would fill half the list.
And of course within you and without you is the trippiest- It's actually one of the best- I swear I think Harrison was the best- Who woulda thought a sitar on a Pop song?
i like the 4 pictures when i am the walrus is playing everyone except paul is all looking at the camera and paul is just like hm i wonder where that black spot on the wall came from?
Hey! At the end of I AM THE WALRUS SONG, Listen and you will hear 2 different groups singing over each other. One is saying " Everybody's fucked up", and the other group of voices are saying " Smoke pot - smoke pot - everybody smoke pot". It may take a few tries but it is really there and i have no reason to lie. Just passing this stuff on the the new Beatles fans or people who may be in the dark.
haha, this part was made by a group of studio vocalists names "The Mike Sammes Singers". They sang "oompah, oompah, stick it up your jumper!", "got one, got one, everybody's got one".
I dunno, I think you're getting a bit carried away here, Nato, they're definately not singing fucked up, and as for smoke pot, I am unsure as to whether it's that or simply "everybody haha", which makes less sense but which fits the previous pattern of the song, since they mention laughing in the background following the joker passage(listen in the background and you will hear laughing)
there are claims that they actually say "got one, got one, everybody's got one," and "oompah, oompah, stick it up your jumper," but it sounds like you're right
With CD's being the only format for new music and vinyl records a thing of the past, the young and new people to the Beatles can't hear all the cool messages when the record is spun in reverse. At the end of "Happiness is a Warm Gun" John is heard saying ... Paul's a dead man and I miss him. This is true. Find the record in vinyl and you will hear a reverse messages on the WHITE ALBUM.
Very cool, good list. Mine would be very close to this, but I'd have maybe Across the Universe instead of Fixing a Hole. Mmm, but then again, that came a little later than the time period you're doing, so I guess your list owns then. =)
I agree with your number 1 choice. I LOVE THAT SONG. Have you heard the combined version of Within You Without You and Tomorrow Never Knows? Its a really good combination from the Beatles LOVE CD. You should check it out sometime. :)

I've got to agree and say I much prefer this list to the other one I found.
For one, the proto-psychadelia is a little more back on the list where they belong.
Only two problems:
1. Lack of other George material of the period. Where's "Only a Northern Song" or "It's All Too Much"?
2. What's the New Mary Jane. That track is pure psychadelia to a cosmic extent. It should at least be in the top 5.
Once again, great list.
