Otherwise they would have to go on land to get food walk quite a ways to trees and then go back to the stream. Saves them lots of time!

The American beaver's ability to nibble wood demonstrates the stunning adaptability of these amazing mammals....poetry, pure poetry. There is nothing like a soaking wet beaver nibbling some wood.
Sometimes, when I take the train, I see beaver dams in the woods. It's interesting how some of them look more "professionally" done than others: older, more experienced beavers, perhaps?
They can even do it to telephone poles, around my aunts cottage in Ontario, they all have Metal rings around the base so the little devils wont eat our infrastructure :D
