  • She's good.

  • It is like that to have an hit. You have to sing it every time. Not maybe that you want to sing the hit as an artist but the people will request it every time you sing something. Very good.

  • Does anybody know why she doesn't use the last verse in her music version: "and I finish off my coffee and it's time to catch the train". Would be better if she left that part there.

  • Awesome!

  • Suzanne Vega is a legend

  • Yeah, if I had a song people still knew perfectly after 2 decades I'd want to blow my head off. You, dear sirs, are haters.

  • Classic! Never gets out of style. Love, love, love Suzanne Vega. Miss the 80's!

Miss Tiffany, Debbie Gibson, NKOTB, Billy Joel...

  • So soothing.

  • i think she's the cutest grown woman I've ever seen. Dimples are adorable.

  • I wouldn't be happy if some DJ's remix of my art became more famous than my original song, and then MY FANS interrupt me between phrases. The "do do do do" element only joins in at the end, right?

  • @ubentu Lighten up, Francis!

  • Oh I wish I was there D: I would so do that background 'do's

  • it is supposed to be this way, that's the beauty of a cappella

be original, don't be a fake.

  • she seems like such a cool lady, not to mention her very unadorned style of singing, so direct, yet poetic. one of a kind.

  • she do look more pretty now than when she was young..but the voice, then and now,,,superb.

  • this was really the original version...

she didn't like the new one with the music...I like both :)

  • Listening to this version REALLY makes you listen to the lyrics more, makes you thinks about the meaning behind it all. Such a great song. Love it!

  • her voice i so relaxing i love it

  • she reminds me of feist

  • I don't think anyone else could do this song justice. There can be only one.

  • LOVE HER VOICE SO MUCH

  • Its nice that she sounds the same as on the record 20+ years ago. No studio mic or brushing of the vocals.

  • oh yeah !

  • that was awesome!!!

  • Yes, she is sweet and talented!! There is a version of Tom's Diner on here with a piano accompaniment, which is great. Check it out.

  • She is TOO cute! :) Looks awesome, too! What a classic song, which will go down as right up there w/ all the best out of the Greenwich Village folk scene. I don't think the DNA Mix mis-represented her.. just shows how genre-busting she truly is. I'm sure she was very happy & blown away by that mix. A nice surprise, & it didn't hurt her career either, no doubt! This girl's got TALENT!

  • amazing !!! :-D

  • awkkkkward!

  • Jo je dobrá

  • yes indeed

  • Nádhernýýýýýý.............

  • nádherný - splendid

  • waaa so cute when they all are singing "tytytyry" xD

  • August 12, 2006

  • i love how it's interactive with the audience

  • she's so cas and cool!

  • brilliant

  • "Don't feel compelled. To sing." LOL

  • its sad stars those days didnt do career and millions like todays bussines junkies

  • this song took me back in the days and made me thinkin of my childhood (l)

  • this song is so calming

  • i really like her voice

  • what's this song about?

  • Sitting in the diner on the corner.

  • Vega wrote the song based on a comment by her friend Brian Rose, a photographer, who mentioned that in his work, he sometimes felt as if "he saw his whole life through a pane of glass

  • such a pretty voice,thanks suzanne.

    so cute is she.

  • lovely!

  • a very beautiful and unique voice...

  • <3333

  • That's good, according to the urban dictionary:"Urban Dictionary is a slang dictionary"

  • hey listen no one heard about this song until it wasn't remixed becasue it was recited trust me throughout europe in late 80's and early 90's just because "do do do do" it was popular i don't see what is problem she should be thankful for remix because of it song is still popular

  • I am big fan of Suzanne, and i think you got it right here...That remix was very respectful to her voice, and the reason this track is still remembered so dearly these days..

  • You can tell how uncomfortable she feels each & everytime the crowd sings "do do do do"! I found it funny! The song is good, but it was ruined when it was remixed in the early 90's cause it portrayed her in a way she wasn't.

  • "Don't feel compelled to sing along." What a terribly awkward moment. I think she handled it about as well she could have.

  • cuando vendras a Chile suzanne?

  • at this hour, her new album 52 on amazon bestseller list

  • Too funny! Her eyes were saying, "Could they just shut up!" LOL I never heard the original until tonight. I like it.

  • The diner on the corner of Broadway and 112th Street in New York City later become famous as a location for some exterior scenes in the popular television sitcom Seinfeld. (The building belongs to Columbia University and houses some of its programs, as well as NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies.) The "bells of the cathedral" that she remarks hearing in the song are those of the Cathedral of Saint John the Divine. since she couldn't play piano, she decided to record it a cappella.

  • Yeah, she actually tells the story of the song in another YouTube clip. Thanks for sharing. smile

  • a spare spoken-word ditty that was remixed by no fewer than 25 dance-music producers around the world and turned Vega into a very unlikely genre-busting international sensation.

  • tututututurrruurruuu:)

  • Suzanne is brilliant !

  • so cute! i love how the audience is singing along!!

  • Great performance. Everybody knows the DNA version, which is purely brilliant if you ask me. A very interesting mix too as it came from an acapella. Credit for both

  • un muy buen video sobre todo por que esta interpretado a capela algo que los artistas nuevos no han dominado aun

  • Never heard it acapella before. Like it better since the lyrics and the beat on the DNA remix doesn't match too well.

  • That was where Suzanne Vega came in. Her song Tom's Diner, though seemingly a simple ditty, proved devilishly difficult to reproduce without annoying background noise. "Suzanne Vega was a catastrophe. Terrible distortion," Brandenburg recalls. "The a cappella version of Tom's Diner was more difficult to compress without compromising on audio quality than anything else."

When MP3 developers refined the technology to the point where Tom's Diner sounded true to the original.

  • Thank you for this post.

  • Good point. But this festival is still here after everybody else has gone. A new one in March -- look for it.

  • Is it just me or does the big Gibson Corporate Sponsor logo somehow not jive with the idea of being Anti-Folk?

  • search uses combination of tags. Look right. She is recording and tried new songs. Watch this space. Watch for album.

  • Who is she? what is the song?
