It is like that to have an hit. You have to sing it every time. Not maybe that you want to sing the hit as an artist but the people will request it every time you sing something. Very good.
Does anybody know why she doesn't use the last verse in her music version: "and I finish off my coffee and it's time to catch the train". Would be better if she left that part there.
I wouldn't be happy if some DJ's remix of my art became more famous than my original song, and then MY FANS interrupt me between phrases. The "do do do do" element only joins in at the end, right?

i just listened to other songs for the first time by her and looked up others she's sang because i enjoyed them, and this one started and i went OH NO..she does have a beautiful voice, but i prefer her other songs..this song has annoyed me ever since i can remember. the do do do do's get stuck in my head for DAYS.
She is TOO cute! :) Looks awesome, too! What a classic song, which will go down as right up there w/ all the best out of the Greenwich Village folk scene. I don't think the DNA Mix mis-represented her.. just shows how genre-busting she truly is. I'm sure she was very happy & blown away by that mix. A nice surprise, & it didn't hurt her career either, no doubt! This girl's got TALENT!
Vega wrote the song based on a comment by her friend Brian Rose, a photographer, who mentioned that in his work, he sometimes felt as if "he saw his whole life through a pane of glass

The diner on the corner of Broadway and 112th Street in New York City later become famous as a location for some exterior scenes in the popular television sitcom Seinfeld. (The building belongs to Columbia University and houses some of its programs, as well as NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies.) The "bells of the cathedral" that she remarks hearing in the song are those of the Cathedral of Saint John the Divine. since she couldn't play piano, she decided to record it a cappella.
a spare spoken-word ditty that was remixed by no fewer than 25 dance-music producers around the world and turned Vega into a very unlikely genre-busting international sensation.
Great performance. Everybody knows the DNA version, which is purely brilliant if you ask me. A very interesting mix too as it came from an acapella. Credit for both
That was where Suzanne Vega came in. Her song Tom's Diner, though seemingly a simple ditty, proved devilishly difficult to reproduce without annoying background noise. "Suzanne Vega was a catastrophe. Terrible distortion," Brandenburg recalls. "The a cappella version of Tom's Diner was more difficult to compress without compromising on audio quality than anything else."
When MP3 developers refined the technology to the point where Tom's Diner sounded true to the original.
She's good.
