@HAWX234 If someone is using a gun for home defense to protect from burglars at night, they are going to use low velocity rounds because they generally don't produce much muzzle-flash. think about it like a flash bulb in a camera, you know how it blinds you if your in a darkened room, same thing goes for a gun. your not going to want a blinding flash after you fire your weapon and risk being wide open for attack.

@dela213 Actually, I'm not sure where you got your info from, or who taught you about ammo, but for home defense, you don't want "low velocity rounds". Low velocity rounds are for target practice, sorry. It's to help reduce the sound to not damage your hearing. If you are trying to drop a burglar you want +P high pressure hollow points, like Hornady TAP FPD rounds or jacketed hollow point hydrashocks like Federal Personal Defense rounds.

@therealjarett I guess it boils down to personal preference. Whenever I go shooting I wear ear protection so it doesn't matter to me what round I'm shooting unless I'm sighting in a rifle. As for high velocity rounds, they tend to have high muzzle flash; personally I don't want to be blinding myself in a dark house by setting off a huge flash. Another thing to consider is who you share your home with. I don't want to accidentally shoot someone due to a stray high velocity round.

Sorry for assuming! But I would really recommend some +P hollow point rounds for home protection. HP's will mushroom when hitting hard surfaces, lowering chances of penetration through walls and unwanted casualties. +P means more pressure, and I'm not exactly sure what the difference between +P & HV is?

@HAWX234 you also have to think about the frame rate at which this was shot... its a choppy vid to begin with, so its likely the flash didn't show on cam. check out some other vids of automatic rifles and you can see some flashes arent even recorded.
