  • There is just something about those 70" drivered Northerns....awesome.

  • One helluva Northern, I have never seen her except I have tapes of her at the 1990 NRHS convention. BUT, she is nuthin compared to Millwaukee Road #261 or Frisco #1522 or Illinois Central #2500 (Perhaps the biggest and best 4-8-2 surviving in America!)

  • @atsf3415dbr Keep an eye on Steamtown! Who ever said eastern steam wasn't impressive? The restoration of Boston and Maine 3713 (The Constitution) is almost done. They should have her operational in a few years, and she's no light weight!

  • @guitboxchicken so an American made steam engine will run at Steamtown yeah, nothing against Canada

  • The 819 is currently undergoing restoration at the Cotton Belt Shop. Went and saw her just a few days ago. She'll be back as soon as the group can finish boiler ultrasound, and get new fire tubes in the boiler. They just have 11% more of the firebox left to ultraound. Keep an eye out we'll have her back on the rails.

  • Really? I haven't heard any plans about that. Can you give me a web link? That would be awesome if it did run. It and the 1522 are 2 of my favorite steam engines!

  • Sorry. Don't have the web link. Call and talk to Bill. He'll fill you in on the goings on. It has to have about 50 grand worth of fire tubes, but they put money into it when they can. The 336 is not being worked on atm. The boiler work has to be finished before she can get a blue card.

  • Yeah! It's out of service for no reason! It's the 336 that's undergoing restoration.

  • @atsf3415dbr This is a mainline high speed engine, with UP owning all the track. In the area.(there's only four super systems now in the whole country there used to be thousands.)Where are you going to run a big engine like that out west? And the only toursit railroad that has mainline type heavy rail is Steamtown, in Scranton, Pennsylvania. That's a long way from Pine Bluff, Arkansas via UP and NS.

  • Leaving out the fact that NS won't let steam on their tracks.

  • 4449 ran on their tracks to and from trainfest. they let 587 run on their tracks....they let 765 run on their tracks....those arent steam engines?

  • @intercityrailpal Well, keep an eye on Steamtown. Who ever said eastern steam wasn't impressive? In the next few years, they'll have Boston and Maine 3713 (The Constitution) up and running, (hopefully) and she's no light-weight!

  • wait y is she out of service

  • she is currently undergoing restoration and will be back in a few years so be patient. 819 rocks!

  • This engine came on the excursion scene in a puff of smoke and left with a puff of smoke. Ran awhile then was gone. What ever happened with it?

  • @StanierBlack5LMS The UP took over the Cotton Belt? They have their own engine which is run for their PR only. Just one trip carrys passengers out of Denver once a year. For a Denver newspaper. This is what happens when you have ex General Motors and oil company people on your board of directors.

  • where did all those coaches go to now that were behind this great steam engine?

  • that blue car behind the dome with the gold trim 2nd to the rear is now in private railcar service there on those trains it was called the mercaties now repainted and restored to its old appearance it is named the Metis and is in a few current youtube videos with me on it

  • Anyone notice her bell sounds like the one onthe 4449

  • That's because she's a GS-8. 4449's a GS-4.

  • no she`s a Baldwin designed L-1 class northern built at the Cotton belt home shops in Pine Bluff

  • She's an L-1 and a GS-8. The few L class engines that Southern Pacific had were dubbed GS-7's and GS-8's.

  • Notice I said Baldwin Lima built the GS-4 through 8`s

  • If you mean Lima built the GS-6 thru GS-6.

  • It would be great to see her run again.

  • The whistle on this run was a Frisco 1500 class whistle but the superheated steam is to dry for a whistle that needs saturated steam. I will try some other videos soon thanks Matt

  • What did the original Cotton Belt whistle sound like? Similar to the Frisco?

  • will try to upload a video with original whistle

  • now that's a steam engine!

  • I see miss seeing her run... :(

  • me to there is some stuff missing off that engine them asshole's at the railraod musem were they 819 took the boiler apart and it is still down not enough volenteer's and money that what i just make's so damn mad lol

  • she might again soon

  • Truly one of the prettier, better balanced 4-8-4's out there. If only she was running.

  • i been in the cab of engine 819 at the arkansas railroad muesm i sat in the engineers seat

  • Nice video Matt! Glad to see you on Youtube.
