  • What a nice looking neighborhood :)

  • dude, what rod is it youve got and what reel?

  • @FishingmasterUK it is a G-loomis rod and it is a GL2. Shimmano 4000 reel.

    Roger

  • i will give a try again with safty glasses this time lol

  • i tried that once fail big time. end up hooking my self in the eye. my eye is fine just blind for few weeks

  • @ybm24 never give up. keep working at your skills and one day you will learn how to more catch bass! you may think about safety glasses:)

    good luck!

    Roger

  • Great video!! It is incredibly instructive- what rod are you using for this?

  • Deadly technique, took a good season to master it. I am now going to get proficient at doing this with opposite hands. For weightless baits like senkos and ikas, this is the ultimate technique for spinning tackle while in-close skipping under docks and trees. One can get so good at this technique, there becomes little reason to use any other type of cast. I can nearly achieve distances of an overhand cast.

  • @xnitronx Thank you Very much! I am glad you took the time needed to master it! This will help you catch bigger bass too!

    Great report!!!!!

    Roger

  • I honestly couldn't understand pitching for the life of me,all the explanations that I've read made almost no sense to me, after watching your video i tried it out the way you showed and i'm starting to get a hang of it. thank you soooooooooo much

  • hey good tip on that i have to pratice that i think a spinning reel is easier to pitch and flip then a bait cast setup but many have done that with a bait cast set up which it takes more pratice

  • very informative video man. Thanks!

  • Best home made how to guide on fishing techniques. Not some 12 year old making a video with his phone. Not some pro how is only making the video becasue his sponsors told him too. But a guy who actually knows what hes talking about, explains how he does it and why he does it the way he does. And most of all, hes a guy who loves fishing and wants to share his knowledge with us. Thanks alot Roger! Tight lines!

  • @evopowerboard THANK YOU!!!!!!!!

    Roger

  • @evopowerboard AGREED!!!!

  • Im sorry, but Roger.....you are so awesome

  • Roger you have some serious skill.

  • @FreshwaterAngling Thank you! you are kind!

    Roger

  • Great rod control and great video, I pitch a little different i let the lure actually hit the water instead of hold the line then lift a inch from the water then side arm pitch as if I was skipping a stone across a bank (I never skipped with an egg weight so I don't know if it would work) but skipping with the egg dose it slide up with the lure? Because it seems as if the egg would cause more of a plunging sound and a hard splash. (I fish only with a Texas rig no weight n a soft plastic)

  • @MustafaBabar Why even take the chance of getting less bites. Use a flourocarbon line as a leader of the same pound test. check to make sure the knot you use is good, so you do not loose big fish!

    Roger

  • You really know your stuff and I enjoy your instructional videos!

    What worm is that?

  • Comment removed

  • Roger -- why don't you do this with the rod in your right hand? then you don't have to change hands after impact?

  • I no longer switch hands I changed the crank handle to the other side.

    Roger

  • thanks

i fish mostly from a kayak so it's interesting learning to pitch and flip sitting on my butt at water level

  • @exbassguide - Hey-I'm really enjoying your videos!- I've been using both fluoro and mono and sometimes Mono with fluoro leader-I use a spinning rod and reel and now I'm considering braid-I notice your using fireline- are you using the fused crystal braid I think they call it which berkley recommend's for spinning or just the regular braid-?-would you recommend one over the other-?and also if I use fluoro leader with braid can you recommend a knot-?- thankyou for any help!!!

  • thanks

  • well im just getting a canoe so i can fish in it for a couple years. im gunna get a 12 foot pelican bass boat its like 2,000

  • @flurbsmcgurgs $2,000!?!? WHAT STORE IS IT IN??

  • @ChrisH11515 wat?

  • good info thanks im getting a canoe soon so i can flip docks bu for now im on shore

  • get a pontoon boat insted better for bass fish. Check out bimart. I got mine for $260

    Roger

  • hey roger, i have a question i fish here in massachussetts were the bass habitat is mostly all weeds and in rivers there is relitivly good current what lures, tacktics, and techniques do you recomend for both smallmouth (river)amd largmouth (ponds)bass for me. nice video

  • For large mouth bass try fishing docks more the weeds do not grow well under docks ans the bass will be there. I would try fishing a frog over weeds. A buzz bait will get you big bass.

For smallmouth bass in rivers I like a senko drop shot in current seams coming of points. Look for the bass in about 15 feet of water. I also love a weighted senko wacky rig, with a three inch senko. Spinner baits can be good in the spring. thanks for the question it's a good one!

    Roger

  • doe you use brush hogs with football gig heads/ spiral locks

  • Im 14 and i love bass fishing. I am from southern california in an area where bass are get spooked easy from always seeing lines. any specific lures and techniques you recommend.

  • try using fouro carbon line. fish low light times of the day . Also fish thicker cover the bass cant see the line as well.

Overcast days can help too. If you can see the bass they can see you make longer casts to your target. Good question!

    Roger

  • u know your stuff pretty well but what is the difference between pitching and flipping?

  • pitching you let the line out on the pitch. A pitch goes about 30 feet. flipping you do not let any line off your reel on the flip. Sometimes you will peel line off the reel after the flip to let the lure fall strait down. A flipp goes 10 to 15 feet.

    Thanks!

    Roger

  • great video are you a big fan of fire line? thanks

  • Yes I really like fireline. I have landed lots of big bass using the line and it has done a great job. Some times I use flouro leader so the fish will not be line shy. When ever I am fishing in water known for it's big bass I use fire line.

    Roger

  • this guys stuff is one of the best on youtube

  • very informative,thanks!! :D

  • i would love to fish with this guy he would more than likely out catch me 6 to 1 but it would a good and fun learning experience

  • this guy's stuff is great!

  • Super great info on all your vids, Thanks man!

    Fishing S.C.

  • How far will the pitch go? Does it vary on the size of the lure?

    Catch a big one!

    -Mark

  • I can pitch about 60 feet but its better to pitch about 30 feet away so you can hit small targets and so the lure will not make a splash. I do not very distance with other lures.

    Roger

    Roger

  • Thanks! This helped alot when I was fishing.

    -Mark

  • very nice, thx, can you do this with other lures, e.g. diving lures like rapala shad rap and any thing of that kind (just an example) ????

  • Yes any lure. I love slinging a jig too. I cast like this with crank baits in tight spots and catch big bass.

    Thanks

    Roger

  • thank you so much that is very useful...

    I JUST SUBSCRIBED!

  • WOW that was cool man love it. Im takin my kids fishing at Lake Pleasent in Phoenix AZ with worms from shore. Any tips you could give me for max results. Great video .

Thanks oh 1:25 I almost hit the car lol

  • why dont u use a bait caster im 13 and i use a baitcaster and flip and pitch with jigs and tubes

  • because he's talking about skipping, not just pitch/flip. You can skip with a casting reel, but it's not worth the trouble, the skipping stops can and usually case small spool overruns..

  • you can skip with a baitcaster just as easy you just have to work your thumb on the spool, with no backlashing just takes practice but well worth taking the time to learn.

  • cool

    usefull

  • I just bend the rod by holding the lure then shooting ( slingshot style ) it under or into my target. It take time to control your entry but it works well in heavy cover

  • country style

  • Thanks for the invite, gladly accepted. Awesome tips, my cousin usually kicks my ass every summer at the lake so this summer I'm coming armed thanks to you.

    Cheers, Eddy

  • solid technique!

  • good info I skip alot on the river

    5*

  • Instead of gripping the line on start of the pitch, can't you also pitch by gripping the bait and swinging the rod? This is how I have been pitching with a spinning reel, and its been working out for me. Though I also grip the line a few seconds before the bait hits the water, to slow the bait down a bit.

  • 5 stars

  • Great Video!

  • what does the pitching/flipping do

  • Pitching allows you to cast your lure with GREAT accracy and with a soft landing into the water. You can place the lure in hard to reach spots that bass like to hide. This is a BIG BASS way of fishing!

  • caught one

  • ohh cool thanks ill try tommorrow when i go fishin

  • is the rod ur holding taller than u

  • The rod is 6' 6" I am under 6 foot tall.

  • Thank you for your teachings!

  • um yes it will work with a bait caster thats what i use and it works fine

  • This way of pitching does not work with Bait caster. But that is not to say that pitching cant be done with a bait caster. It is a different technique and it too work well. Thanks

    Roger

  • If you do not use all tools available to you you are limiting yourself. This is very true with small mouth bass!

    Roger

  • Does this same concept work with baitcasting reels? Love the videos keep em' coming.

  • No that will not work well for bait caster.

  • i apologize i didnt read you whole reply down there

  • Hey just something to comment about i've been practicing skip casting and have found that a 1/4 oz bitsy jig with a bitsy chunk on 14lb flurocarbon skips well. Just trim the front skirt strands like most other finesse jigs sorta like the eakins jig. Also if you spray KVD line treatment prior to a fishing trip you get less line snarls

  • Good info. Thanks

  • I'm not very good at skipping and know i need to learn it to be competitive. I can skip a tube and with patience a jighead worm. Does it help to be low to the water and when do you backhand skip, forehand skip, and pitch skip. Could you do a video talking about when to do what and where. Also what type of baits do you prefer to skip because quite ohnestly your the best skipper ive ever seen!

    Thanks

  • Top baits for skipping are: banjo minnow, senko and the tube jig. I will add a video in the next month, sorry I'm fishing hard now;-)

    Roger

  • your videos are very helpful. im a very inquisitive person and ide like to know when pitching a skip what is the best bait to use. also, im right handed... and to me it makes more sense to cast out with your right hand and reel with the left hand.. this way you dont have to switch hands (my right hand already has a firm grip on the pole). does it matter or do you just do what feels comfortable. and if it isnt to much ide like to know if your a righty or a lefty.

  • I would be glad to make a video that shows more on how I pitch spinning rods and I will also show the pitch skip on the water so you can see how very effective that cast is too!!!!

    Thanks for asking!

    Roger The Ex Bass Guide

  • yea. this is great. but if you make another video maybe showing a different angle like where the lure is going and then put some frames in slow motion that would be great! Thanks

  • Top notch videos exbassguide! Big thanks. Any chance you can add some angles to catch the action of the rod tip. Are you snapping the rod tip for more distance? Also any chance you can add some videos and thoughts for the boatless guys working the sides? Big thanks. Good stuff!

  • very useful ty

  • exbassguide, keep those videos coming!! dont stop!!

  • great video

  • very useful tips, thanks

  • great video...thanks a lot!

  • Is it possible with casting reels?

  • I have other videos with a angle strait on from the target. If you like I can get more angles. Would you like that?

    Thanks!

    Roger

  • Thanks for the tip. My only gripe is that you could have moved the camera in order to show how the lure would fall after pitching. Still, great video! :D

  • Cool~!
