  • Well, there you have it, the purest proof - poor Salieri didnt have a chance against Mozart - they don't stand comparison, really: Salieri's composition is "well-crafted" at best (though you notice it does not nearly flow as beautifully as Mozart's music), while Mozart's composition is pure genius...

  • Beautiful Piece... Salieri was a true genius too, even after what the movie said about him.

  • SALIERI doit être réhabilité!

  • this is so beautiful

  • Adorably ,splendidly spiritually pacifying musical work! As I am suffering and am devastated from 3 illnesses at the same time ,this admirably calming musical work act on me so pleasantly!!! Thank you Salieri for creating this so deeply spiritually pasifying musical work !!!

  • Poor old Salieri seemed to get a bad press after the film 'Amadeus' was released.

  • what's the name of the drawing in the star?

  • very nice piece

  • "MOZAAART! MOZAAAAART! FORGIVE ME MOZART!"

  • very creepy

  • 3 people are mozart

  • @counterstrifekid Mozarl loved him...

  • Why can't I find ANY of Salieri's music in the record store?? :(

  • @KamasutraButterfly He's horrible underrated - kinda like the movei 'Immortal Beloved' - awesome, yet forgotten.

  • @KamasutraButterfly It's a shame, isn't it? I've been trying to rescore this requiem for almost a year now, cannot find an original score

  • Nice one, was not aware of its beauty

  • There are superficial similarities with Mozart, but there are few surprises-no moments where i am filled with a sense of wonder.

At 3:57 there's a stunningly beautiful sequence (cycle of 5th?),but it rather laboriously gets repeated in exactly the same way. It feels like a formula.

  • @allegramente5000 That short sequence at 3:58 sounds borrowed from You Know Who's Requiem.

  • I love requiems!!!

  • these version is much better than Mozarts

  • @hanohypersequence

This isn't a version of Mozart's Requiem, this is an entirely different Requiem by a different composer. I see why you would think it's a diff version, but yeah, no.

  • the pictures are sick

  • @profalconey3 Ha ha ha ha

  • This musicpiece sounds allot like a music piece of Mozart.

  • is it true that that he was the man in the black cloak who came to mozart's door? Or does nobody know?

  • @hello152984 No, that's fiction. Mozart's Requiem was commissioned by a nobleman, Count Franz Walsegg, who wanted to use it as being his own composition for his deceased wife. The man who appeared to Mozart with money was a steward of the count.

  • Interestingly enough, the first time this was heard was at Salieri's own funeral.

  • Lisbon Gulbenkian Chorus & Orchestra

    directed by Lawrence Foster

  • That oboe solo is epic! so alone and mournful!

  • @gajda1984 sorry, cor anglais i meant

  • You wrote a requiem? 0.o

I just got commissioned for one...

  • I based much of my requiem off of this

  • beautiful

  • salieri and mozart, the 16th century's tupac and biggie smalls

  • @AuntySemitist try 18th and 19th century.

    dumbass.

and how dare you compare them to those stupid niggers.

their music WAS MUSIC and wasn't some primal, instinctive playground bullshit about bitches and hoes.

  • @ffyfan15 first off all, that was a joke my good man; salieri and mozart hated one another, supposedly ending up in a salieri murdering his rival; same as pac and biggie, with tupac getting shot by biggie smalls. second, if you listened properly to any of their music is alot deeper and heartfelt than shit about bitchs and hoes, thats just the stereotype for rap music. stupid niggers? not really.

  • @AuntySemitist haha.

    what a dumbass.

you believe that because it was in a movie, when in fact, that has no factual portrayal of the true events whatsoever.

    and yes, stupid niggers.

they didnt advance their education or study classically in anything.

they just "winged" everything they did and it deserves no analysis becasue there is nothing to analyze other than noise.

now back to GOOD music, salieri did despise mozart because mozart was a dick to everyone, but i'll message you more about this.

  • @ffyfan15 i did say supposedly, didnt i? i dont think much of it tbh. but eh, tupac, studied shakespeare and poetry at a 3rd level... thats off the point anyway, as if their education had to do with it at all; i made a joke, you responded to it like an absolute nerd, like fair enough for correcting the dates i had, but honestly, taking it personal like that really makes you look like a faggot

  • @ffyfan15 why are you so hateful just listen to the music and keep your thoughts to yourself

  • @ffyfan15 im not going to comment on anything in that (in the interest of not opening cans of worms) post but the comment about mozart being a dick. I don't think that would be my choice of words, but yes he was a very arrogant man and thought of most other composers as trash and that his pieces should be the ones getting commissioned because he was a superior composer, almost as if his way of writing music was the only way and no one else's was worth listening to.

  • @ffyfan15 meant to say 18th century, stupid mistake

  • @ffyfan15

Hush, sir(: you're very stupid. You're annoying.

    Love,

    Brittanie.

  • Thanks, i've been looking for this song.

  • Salieri is often overlooked....Thank you milos forman for resurrecting this previously unknown composer...

  • Perfect!

  • Perfect.

  • The feel made with the... frightening pictures...

I would like to share some Sacred Works of Antonio Salieri with my friends in facebook who enjoy classical music.

Meanwhile, try to write an simple introduction for this in Chinese.

appreciate your selfless offer! Please allow me quote.

  • The four at the beginning please.

  • These paintings are beautiful, can you tell me who they are or give me links. Please let me have them in my possession.

  • This is very beautiful, but I can't find it anywhere. Do you know where can I find it in mp3?

  • @MilchundSchokolade13 There is a new recording: absolutely beautiful on SACD, label = Pentatone: Antonio Salieri (1750-1825) Requiem in C minor (1804) Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827) Meeresstille und Glückliche Fahrt Op. 112 Franz Schubert (1797-1828) Intende voci (Offertorium) in B flat, D 963 Coro Gulbenkian Chorus Master: Jorge Matta Orquestra Gulbenkian Concert Master: Mihaela Costea Conducted by Lawrence Foster PTC 5186359 DSD recorded
  • @19dutch46 thank you! Is very good, the problem is that I can't buy from the internet. But well, I will try.

  • The original piece was written in memory of the executed king of france Louis the XVi. Louis was believed by many to have been a kind and compassionate King and when he was executed by the french revolutionaries even factions of the Revolutionaries were against it. so this was written in his memory.

  • Most recently the "Requiem" has been released by the Gulbenkian Chorus & Orchestra on modern instruments, directed by Lawrence Foster for the PentaTone-Label. I own this new recording and it's really worth listening (& buying).

  • this requiem was conducted by Franz Shubert in the salieri´s funeral.... Viena = greates musicians of the world

  • As far as Beethoven being deaf goes, he was composing for many years before he became deaf so he had an excellent understanding of what each instrument/note would sound like in his head. (eg think of the requiem scene in amedeus, its more of a dictation process. Not a jam like bands would do these days!) my point being you dont necessarily need to be able to hear. Secondly, I think Salieri is medicore compared to Mozart, but if he had lived in another time he would have been much more respected.

  • Simply great music!!

It's a certain known fact that Beethoven himself (a student of Salieri) said thet Salieri was a very loving and appreciative person: He found it absolutely impossible that Salieri colud harm Mozart. Despite, he respected Mozart deeply for his unbelievable talent!!

  • If the story in Amadeus is true, then this might be the reason why the masked man delivered the message allegedly written by Salieri to Mozart asking him to compose the Requiem to see if his composition of Requiem could be surpassed. Mozart did it great although he wans't able ti finish the masterpiece. Salieri, however, is one of the best composers of his time.

  • genio

  • Antonio Salieri was, and still is, truly a great composer. It's about time he becomes a recognized composer!!!

  • I'm looking for the right song 2 translate to guitar. He was and is A great Composer.

  • The only reason this is even here is thanks to Peter Schaffer and Amadeus. Salieri's very mediocrity has saved him from obscurity - something his talent clearly could never have done. Mind you, it isn't as conspicuously ordinary as the myth requires - just a bit uninspired.

  • @corfangilian

Why would you call this mediocre? This is well crafted art. Just because a movie had him calling himself midiocre doesn't mean that he was. He was good enough to instruct Beethoven and Liszt.

  • Love the paintings anyone know who there by??

  • salieri was a great composer. this requiem is pure. great italian.

  • what most people tend to discard is the fact that Salieri was the master of his time. in vienna his music was the music that was played. it was him who people believed would have his music played more than 100 years from then... it's sad he's such a back drop.

  • @tubez4321

Bach wrote music from his head! So did Beethoven! That is a gift for great composers, they can hear the whole music inside their head!

  • Adagio - Lara Fabian???

  • Thanks for uploading this music. After watching Amadeus, I became curious about Salieri's music. While I don't think he comes even close to the depth and emotional substance that is Mozart, I hardly think he was a mediocrity as Amadeus has presented. His music, in my opinion, isn't genius level, but it's not garbage, either. He has composed some nice stuff!

Merci.

  • Profondo,celestiale!

  • This is extraordinary! Salieri reveals so much of himself with such simple (not complex) music. He's a master.

    You're pictures are great. Inspired.

I'm new to the whole opvid thing, but I think I have a model to aspire to.

Oh yea. I'm fightin' 'em back.

  • And right you are. Truth be told, complexion in music is not the element that should define beauty and ingeniousness. This Requiem is truly magnificent.

To create the perfect irony, i have it in my play list after Mozart's Requiem, Agnus Dei

  • excuse me, who is playing & singing? on period instruments, I assume..?

  • I have no idea.

I would be glad if someone could tell me...

  • @Thrax1982 @mariaimmaculata It's probably the recording of the Concertino Notturno Praha / A.Kroper (on period instruments) which was released on a czech label and which is currently unavailable except in the czech republic.

There may be another recording by the BBC Chorus & SO, but it was only broadcasted, not released in any form.

  • In case anyone is interested. I started to upload an earlier mass of his.

Mass in D major "Emperor Mass" (1788)

  • What's the thing abut a "Piccolo Requiem"? Please explain!

  • What exactly do you want to know?

  • What does it mean? i know what a requiem is, a mass for the dead. But, what's a Piccolo Requiem?

  • 'Small Requiem'

    or

    'Little requiem'

  • Does it not inclued al the parts?

  • I think it has all the traditional parts and even some additional.

  • I think it should be considered in its figurative meaning, that is, "humble requiem". As you read in the following part, he defines himself "piccolissima creatura", "very humble creature"... (sorry for my English ;D)

  • Yes, indeed.

Or perhaps "insignificant" or something like that.

  • "Piccolo Requiem composto da me, e per me, Ant. Salieri, piccolissima creatura" is true that he said th words?

  • I think I saw it mentioned in more than one place, so likely yes. On the other hand I haven't seen the original score so I can't confirm what exactly is written there :D

  • Thank you for posting this. I am a new-born Salieri fan.

  • while i appreciate that salieri was a great composer, this requiem really just doesn't do it for me. it just seems a bit emotionless? and after a few minutes, you're sort of left feeling no different to how you were when you started, and i don't think that's how music should be. the great requiems, in my opinion, are the ones that just about move you to tears. but i guess it's open to personal interpretation.

  • perhaps he was in to bright a mood when he wrote this?

  • haha quite possibly. i have no problem with him being happy and putting this into his music or whatever, this requiem is just not one of my favourites.

  • i actually think this requiem in its whole is a lot darker then mozart's. which says alot.

  • Well its better than some of the fluff Mozart composed

  • @Linkster2o >> Dude mozart is a genius. And salieri Knew it himself. :P

  • @Linkster2o oh, come on

  • I love the tone of this requiem. Its not too overly dramatic as often Mozart's and Verdi's tend to be. You can honor people dying perfectly well without making the music nearly apocalyptic. This is beautiful.

  • what a beautiful introit

  • Long Live Salieri!

  • yes... long live... But Mopzart destroyed ALL his music and replaced him =(

  • bello

    i like

  • not as good as Mozart's requiem

  • But then what is?

  • Probably listening to Mozart's Requiem without some fuck acting like some great philosopher.

  • Please, no personal insults or I will have to start blocking people.

  • I'll gladly do it, because you asked for it.

Otherwise I have no habit of blocking people for insulting me. People can say whatever they like about me but don't attack other users and the performers.

  • thank u for adding this after a long day this is what i love to listen to

  • i highly respect your not getting drawn in to an argument by a troll, it shows the more mature side of youtube.

  • beautiful

  • Damn Amadeus the movie! Salieri didnt kill

    him!!lol

  • Salieri's work DESERVES more of the prominent light of his contemporaries and highly esteemed pupil's, including such greatness a Beethoven and Franz Liszt (who some believe to be the greatest pianist in history) and even Mozart's son was pupil to him.

    Truly fabulous.

  • This is fabulously beautiful!

  • Che bellissima composizione!

    Meravigliosa.

  • Mi perdoni Signor mysterious, avevo mal interpretato i suoi coomenti.

  • Also, it's not like Antonio's father was completely against music. Antonio was learning how to play instruments while he was still alive.

  • "Perfect" music is just an opinion, there is likely no such thing. Salieri and Mozart were no revolutionists, both played much in the style at the time. I don't see how Salieri could be anymore 'naturally gifted' than Mozart. Yeah, his father taught him, but no composer goes anywhere without teaching.

  • ahhh..so much salieri around the internet it's nice.

  • This made my day, thank you. Where did you find the recording? Is it available on CD anywhere?

  • I talked about Mozart on last post ;-)

Justice to Salieri!...inspired directly by god, not just a sponge brain evil that copy the true inspired artists...

  • He was very analytic, and yes very talented, but he did not had pianist hands...

  • But Salieri has the physical, and the psysical, mean more natural... If Mozart writed operas than young, it's just because his Dad, was VERY hard whit it, and very early in age. He obligated Amadeus to become what he becamed. Salieri did had not a fahter like this... So the destiny helped Mozart, but Salieri was naturally gifted. It,s not a quesion of age you know. If you are 30 oldyears ,by exemple, and gud on the moment, it prove that you're born with it!

  • Let's say it takes a fair amount of natural talent to be good at anything, hard work alone will never be enough.

  • Beside, not all know the most part of Mozart's works untill the age of 12 were composed by his father, as shows the recent studies on autographies.

And not all know Salieri was an incredible enfant prodige, since he became at 24 the youngest Chapel of history of music.

Movies and legends often blur real vision of things!

  • May be, but for each time someone listen a Salieri composition, 1000 is listening to Mozart... that´s not a legend, that's true.

Salieri was an enfant prodige? Then that makes an even more greatest Mozart.

    Legends can never be destroyed...

  • Ok Mozart was the best. But Salieri was REALLY perfect, and Mozart copied his style, and the one from bach and Haydn... Salieri is born with is talent, like Beethoven or J.s Bahc. That's the TRUTH!! Ok, now we can saiy that Mozart won by his very hard work, but... ;) Listen it, it's perfect, totally !! Nothing to say more! He his a genious too!!

  • I think it's the opposite, Mozart was writing operas at an age where Salieri was net even allowed to compose yet because his teacher thought he had not learned enough.

  • Ok, Mozart was BIGGER, and he worked A LOT MORE on his music... ;), but antonio Salieri is a natural born talent, creator and composer. He had the style in him, he had the physical, everything that Mozart did'n't have naturally but learned VERY hardly by his father's help. And no, Mozart music is not perfect, it's desiquilibred sometimes... To much for nothing, sometimes very stupid, NOT perfect.

  • Aren't you forgetting about beethoven? who wrote the best symphony of the history while he was totally deaf. I don't like to compare especially because I love mozart. but i could exchange 40 of mozart's symphonies for only three of beethoven's

  • well, many scholars say that's romantic myth. Mozart could work out musical ideas quickly, and efficiently, but he was thoughtful about what he composed; Fantasy in C minor K.475, D minor piano concerto etc.

It took him a long time when composing the "Haydn" Quartets, the ones he dedicated to his older friend.

Salieri was a proficient composer, but his requiem doesn't move me as Mozart's does. To me, Mozart's is more Bachlike, and passionate, I adore his Introitus, Kyrie, Dies Irae.

  • I enjoy the Mozart Requiem, and the Salieri.

The livlier central section "Te decit Hymnus &c" creates such a striking contrast to the inevitable tread of the opening section, that is very original.

And the spirit of both pieces is different: Mozart's is very, please excuse the term, theatrical. He seems preocupied with the thought that he could be thown into Hell, feeling that he needed to make a last minute confession. Salieri's is somber, but has more of a sense of hope and comfort - FAITH!

  • es bonito

  • Poor old Antonio Salieri was of course not the only composer of the period to be overshadowed by the genius of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. There was, for instance, his own father, Leopold, who could also be much more popular today, but for the greatness of his son. Wolfgang Amadeus is not to blame! Neither are the others... It's our society's fault, for we insist on living in a world of constant comparisons and refuse to judge things/people objectively, on their own merit. Shame on us!

  • Leopold Mozard had some very strange ideas,

    enjoy his Peasant Wedding symphony.

    watch?v=GP7WZpajofU

    ;)

  • Don't we all? I mean, don't we all have some very strange ideas at times? But many thanks for the link to old Leopold's Peasant Wedding symphony - as well as sharing all your other gems with us!

  • this sounds nice :)

  • I have been searching for years for a recording of this. Can someone tell me where I can buy one? I've been accumulating as much of his music, and reading what material there is on him, for 20 years. This has become easier in the recent past, but I still haven't seen this. And while I'm posting, can anyone recommend a decent recording of AXUR? I have one very frail one from the late 80's Sienna festival, but the quality is awful.

  • I posted a new clip, this time it's

    Tuba mirum and Rex tremendae

  • New clip is up - Recordare & Confutatis

  • And the next one is up - Lacrimosa.

Now it's going to be a bit longer pause before I move on with this.

  • New upload

    Domine Jesu Christe & Hostias

  • New clip is up.

  • Sanctus & Benedictus is up now, 2 more to go.

  • The entire requiem is up now, enjoy!

  • I have searched for years for a recording of Salieri's Requiem. Can someone give me any ideas of where to find this? I've been accumulating as much of his music as possible for 20 years now. This has become easier in the last few years, but I have never found this.

While I'm posting, perhaps someone can lead me to a decent recording of Axur?

  • Damn i didn't knew Salieri was this good .

  • you had no idea.. its just that he was overshadowed by Mozart.

  • Well i think his wish became reality after all.

  • Peter Shaffer's play and Milos Forman movie are masterpieces, but unfortunately they helped spreading the myth that Salieri was was envious of Mozart's genius and that he was only a mediocre composer, if not a murderer. The two were actually very close and also composed a piece together, "Per la ricuperata salute di Ophelia". This aria was published in 1785, but is now lost. This astounding Kyrie is the proof that unfortunately sometimes music is the only way we can acknowledge the truth.

  • YEs i do wanna believe that. I mean after all it is just a movie.

  • They did help to spread the myths but they also generated a lot of interest. All publicity is good publicity ;)

  • This requiem is beautiful, people must hear it...is wonderful.Salieri compose another requiem in D minor,in 1815-1820.The requiem in D minor is unfinished and are not cds with the piece.

  • yes, I love this music, I am surprised those words in quotes are from Salieri? "Piccolo Requiem composto da me, e per me, Ant. Salieri, piccolissima creatura"
