p.s. if anyone likes the vibe of this track, definitely check out the instrumental "counting stars" by nujabes, and lots of his other stuff of his as well. peace out!
I didn't ever listen to J-Live until the summer of 2009. It also happens that I've suffered from loneliness for many years, the kind that gives me summertime blues. So I find the song a little bit depressing - I missed out completely on hip hop's golden years AND I've missed out on many social activities that other people my age have enjoyed. Despite all this, it also brings back fond memories of that year - the year that I accepted my love of hip hop and began aspiring to become a DJ!
@KarlBonner1982 Yo bra, I feel you for real! I am also more on "the other side" of my youth, and have just bought some DJ gear. You inspire me man, REAL TALK...
Unlike most hip hop these days, being nothing but about sex, crime, and parties, this guy has given me a new perspective on the rap and hip-hop community no doubt. And this is coming from a guy who's listened to nothing but metal and rock all of his life. I have to say, this guy is legit.
I've zoned out to this song sooo many times when I was going thru some stress...Just blasting this in the ride and forgetting everything....Thank you for this track J-live, really
"It's called knowledge of self: Leave without it and you won't leave a trace in the stars." Man that line hit me so hard. Who couldn't appreciate this song??
@kilico40 I think there isn't anyone who doesn't. lol. Notice how there's ZERO dislikes? haha good shit. I just discovered J-Live like a week ago and i've really been digging his shit.
@breedmcneed2009 Right lol...My bf introduced me to his music when we were just friends and I fell in love with it instantly. It makes me feel like a odd ball chick at times but I dig real hip-hop music. I hate that commercialized stupidity that gets radio play
@hotdawgboy Sure..from my prespective at least. I think he's pretty much sayin that a person unless a person knows who they are, they can't leave their influence here once they pass on, at least not a positive one. All the people that I can think of that strive for true changes in our society have a real knowlegde of who they are, and are aware about the things goin on in society. I can't think of one who's made a difference without knowin who they were first...btw, I'm a woman lol
p.s. if anyone likes the vibe of this track, definitely check out the instrumental "counting stars" by nujabes, and lots of his other stuff of his as well. peace out!

That line hits me, makes me reflect on all of those times in my life in utter happiness.

"From 4 legs to 2 legs to 3 legs/ why spend the last leg pissed/ when you can spend it on nights like this?"
There's a good little bit of metaphor and wordplay in those last couple bars.
