This film was made to give us faith and hope in all of Judaism. Concentrate on loving HaShem and remember no matter how much we love Him He will always love us more. He's our G-d and there is no better.
i just watch this on netflix steam great film im only 20 but i love this movie is there a soundtrack anywhere that has hasdic music like the music from the temple scene when danny introduces Reuven to his father and they have that party. Danny is hot. im half jewish
"There is a story in the in nthe talmud about a king who had a son who would go a straight from his father. The son whas told return to your father. The son said I can´t.Then his father send a messenger to say return as far as you can and I will come to you the rest of the way..."
You can buy the dvd on Amazon, or just about most places that sell DVD's. Try Ebay, you could probably get it cheaper. I really liked the book too. :D
I honestly have no idea whatsoever what this is, but those two guys look so BEAUTIFUL, that I had to make them a favourite....didn't wanna let them slip away and be forgotten.
Yes, have just realised that those "two" cute guys are infact the same person...Robby Benson...have never even heard of him, but am now gonna go google, right after I've eaten this noodle, and stopped playing my bugle, and drawn a little doodle with some plop from my poodle......(er, Bye!)
Robby Benson was a HUGE actor in the early '80's. The Chosen is a very deep, tender movie about an unlikely best friendship formed by two boys from extremely different Jewish sects. It is based on the Must Read classic by Chaim Potok, The Chosen. (The movie is great, the book? Greater. Both will warm your heart and give you tears.)
Both photos are of Robby Benson as the character, Danny. One represents his traditional Hasidic grooming and vestments. The other, the Danny that carries his tradition inside his soul, but externally has shifted into a young man ready to enter the "secular" world at Columbia U.
I really hope you watch it and read it. Potok is one of my 10 favorite authors of all time. My Name is Asher Lev and Davita's Harp are also books that will change you forever.
Do yourself a favour. Then buy the book. Then read it, don't be so damn lazy. Oh, by the way, it's one of the most remarkable novels you'll ever read.
i have to read the chosen for english. does anyone know where i can find the movie for free so i dont have to read the book. i tried reading it, but i cant seem to get a good grasp on it. its not interesting at all.
I think the book is very interesting! It's much more detailed than the movie. While this movie is great, it only gives you the brunt of the story and friendship between Danny and Reuven. I hope you don't get a suprise quiz! You can find this movie on amazon and it should be available at other dvd/video stores and sites since it's release.
Yes he does. I also have to admit that I love the chosen. I've read the book and seen the movie. Speaking of it, im jewish. I had my Bar Mitzvah on Memorial Day in 2003.
I think the movie was better than the book. I felt that the book is about people who are powerfull in mind but can't stand up for themselves.
Reuben Malter lets religious nutters walk over him, his father is an intellectual who can't bridge the gap between a Hassid and a Misnaged, and finaly, Danny Saunders allows his father's fanaticism to bulldoze over him.
The sequal to this book (The Promise) was equaly inane. Things get even worse.
The book is amazing, but I saw the play twice and it was the best! I had really good seats the second time plus I brought binoculars so I ended up seeing every look. During the last scene with Reb Saunders I get my eyes on the guy playing Danny Saunders and he was spectacular. He was sobbing by the end and I was so impresed.
Wow, I would love to see this on stage, I can imagine the performances, the movie was very emotional, and Robby Benson and Rod Steiger did a terrific job in the scene you mentioned. Everyone in the cast was terrific. Thanks for the comment.
There's a play of this? Are you kidding me? Where did you see it? I want to see this in a play SO bad. I have seen the film and I'm reading the book now, and it is SO good.
I love Asher Lev, it is a really good book. I read it first, but I seem to like both equally probably. My Name is Asher Lev is a really good book though, have you read the sequel The Gift of Asher Lev?
yea i have read it. i just think i had a better connection with the younger Asher and that is why i thought it was better, but the stories of the Rebbe in both are really incredible especially in the gift of Asher lev.
Ihave just seen this film cos my favourite book is The Chosen and my favourite author is Chaim Potok. I have never heard of Robby Benson until now. He's readlly great! Thank you for the music.
Thank you. I think this is one of Robby's greatest roles. Everyone was terrific in the cast. I love the music to this. I have the sequel to the chosen novel and I have to finish reading it. I really like the original best.
This drives me crazy, every time I love movie music, the composer is someone so famous and every piece of work they have done is out, except the one I love! It never fails! Sorry, just had to rant. Elmer Bernstein has an official site.
Thank you for commenting. :) It was a fantastic film. One of Robby's best. All the actors were superb in this. I wish this music was on a record at least.
We only made this one. We taped this from the end credits of the film with a digital camera recorder, and just added the picture to cover the speaker of the tv. I don't know about other recordings, but I keep a lookout for any records, etc.
Excellent Movie and acting by Robby Benson, also great movie to own in any collenction.

Also another good movie, although not in the same vein as this, "A Stranger Among Us" w/ Melanie Griffith.

Good question. All of the real life rebbes are scam artists, but I haven't read the book, so I can't really give you a satisfactory answer.
