Here I was searching for some clips of one of the best movies ever made. Then suddenly, out of nowhere, ponies.

@BAUSSMAN8O8 Oh, i get it. It was from sisterhooves social now it makes sense. Still, pretty awesome how much our influence is spreading through the interwebs. When I saw that part where rarity looked at the picture sweetie bell made for her, I f-ing lost it.

Saw Gone With the Wind at a cinema, something well worth doing as scenes like this have so much more impact on the big scree; you get the true visual impact. The above scene came just before the interval, by the way, which is something else you don't realise when you watch it on the box.

Even as a boy when I saw this scene I wanted to rush and protect Scarlett (not that she needed it) and as a senior citizen I still do. Provoking that kind of reaction in audience is beautiful film making and anybody that doesn't like it ... well, don't watch it.
we will never ever in the history of film have actors like the vivien leigh wasn't only a brilliant actress she was one of a kind patent and hallmarked in beauty and everything else
I'd like to see this Scarlett throughout the film. In almost every other scene, she is uneven and sometimes unbearable (specially about Ashley). But this is an epic moment, the best in Gone with the Wind.
@Varezhkavil You are a lier, and you lie yourself because you were born in a country controlled by the mafia, the kgb mafia, even worst than the italian mafia.
@unanacoreta Yes we had KGB and commys but we never approved them.
but Scarlett, why she didn't say "I'll rather get a job and will work 24/7/365", she only get in her head to kill and to steal. And Americans admire of her!
To me, the real hero it's Melany. It's she who was really strong and was nursing Scarlett! Without her, Scarlett long time ago was in prison.
@Varezhkavil yes but the choices of women were limited back then. Plus she had to care for the rest of her sisters and the salary for "women jobs" would not suffice.
Pretty much the only "women's jobs" back there were prostitution or marriage. Or schoolteacher (which in many places a woman who had been married could not be.)
@Varezhkavil THere was a war going on you know. plus the Yankees ransacked her home and took everything Georgia was nothing but desolation for the most part.
Scarlett is a complex character. She starts out innocent and naive, but tough times hardened her into a very strong, take-no-prisoners, get-it-done type of person - and only retains the sweet innocent elements as a facade to get what she wants. She might not be morally correct, but when the chips are down she's the kind of person who will win. The world needs more Scarletts!
I like the quote, and I don't deny the greatness of the film. But am I the only one who does not agree with Scarlett's choices? She got married three times with no love at all, and when Melanie (my favorite character in the movie) dies, Scarlett realizes that she loves Rhett instead of Ashley. Vivien Leigh is a great actress, but the character she was playing is so uneven and... hate-worthy.
After struggling alone thru devastated countryside wasted by Sherman and his army, with Melanie, her baby and their house servant, Scarlett reaches Tara to find it blighted too. She goes grubbing in the burnt fields for a turnip, and then speaks that line. Intermission.
anyone who damned called this movie a shit they're fucking crazy! this is one of the most profoundly made movies of all time and because of the complexity of Scarlett character, this movie deserved all the applause.
I just want to know, in the second book does she end up with Rhett? I know the book was rwritten by someone else but my heart just about broke at the ending of the first one.
Vivien Leigh is immortal as Scarlett O Hara. Norma Shearer, Susan Hayward,
Jean Arthur, Bette Davis, et al all wanted the role, but no one would ever be able to do what Miss Leigh did. She became Scarlett O Hara. Much praise for this film has to go to David Selznick whose brilliance in production stinted no detail to make this masterpiece. All should read the definitive book on Holywood
"Memo From David O. Selznick" which recaps Selznick's legendary career
Yes, I found out by the thirde time I watched the movie. Because at the thirde time, I watched it with my mum and she told me that it wasint the end. At first I did not believe her XD But now I have seen the real ending were she says "after all there is always tomorrow"
I saw this movie at age 11 and it changed my life when this scene played. I realized that poverty was a choice. We were share croppers, 7 of us in a 2 room shack, very poor. 5 Years later I left home to make my fortune, this scene played in my memory anytime something went hard over the past 40 years. I cry everytime I see this clip. KC Truby
Movie historians say that after working a very long night of shooting, Victor Fleming
got her out in that field in the pre-dawn (pre PhotoShop & Blue Screen) hours to film this scene. She was exhausted, missing Olivier, worried about loved ones back home in England since the war had started for them, and just mad as hell in
just before scarlett stands up, she wretches from the nasty taste of the carrot in the ground. olivia de havilland's voice was dubbed for this sound. it's rumored viv had to mimic the reading of this speech by other scarlett hopeful, susan hayward. listen closely to the inflections of the ten words of this assertion to god.
The first time I saw GWTW was when I was 12 years old. I went to the movies by myself for the first time, and left the theatre right after this scene. When I got home, my mom asked me how the movie was, and I told her about this scene..the ending. Well she laughed for about 20 minutes and then explained to me about this thing called "intermission".
Hehee. You know, I'm 12 right now and I just watched this movie today on dvd with some friends during our geekend/dorkathon.. We all loved the movie and we couldn't believe the intermission was, like 20 mins. and the entrance and exit music 2-4 mins. each, so I can't really blame you that you left before. :P
Anyways, I'm glad I'm friends with someone who likes classics, because if I didn't know her, I'd probably never see this wonderful movie! I <3 GWTW sooo MUCH!
Watched the "making of" documentary last night. Fascinating how they came to cast Leigh. Her eyes are so captivating, then throw in her amazing acting ability, and it was a homerun.
The best actress Oscar race was over after this scene and the movie could've ended here, but thankfully it did not. The whole film, like the novel, is extraordinary and rare.

@sethscoot32 Agreed! Gone With the Wind is a classic and cannot be compared to some of the shallow soap operas of today. Gone With the Wind is a work of art through and through.
How else can we account for scenes such as this one?
Agree. This was a great scene and could have left the movie here. Only one scene in the second act meant anything, " the Fankly My Dear" scene at the end of the movie. I doubt many people remember very much of the second act except for the death of the child.
Vivien Leigh won the hearts of the Oscar voters with only this scene. I mean this is the BEST scene of Gone with the Wind. Vivien was so absorbed in this role that no one can ever play Scarlett O'Hara like her. Just legendary - the actress and the film itself. Gone with the Wind will remain the greatest film in the history cinema ever, I'm sure.
