Those pictures, although very cool, are not showing planes breaking the sound barrier. This is a vapor cone that forms as you approach the speed of sound. Pressure along the aircraft body becomes so great that it splits water vapor in the air. Also, if you broke the sound barrier on a flyby of the aircraft carrier and other ship and the airshow, everyone's eardrums would have been destroyed. Airshows do not allow supersonic speeds.

Those are Prandtl-Glauert condensation clouds. They do not form necessarily at mach >1, just close to the speed of sound (also in subsonic flight).

I say high density because I am assuming there has to be a significant drop in atmospheric pressure to form a cloud in the low pressure zone. As soon as the aircraft has passed, the cloud disappears in the higher pressure ambient air, but the cloud seems to persist as the aircraft 'drags' along its 'lift bubble'.
