  • Updated my journal

  • I would like to erase my memories so i can play this game with a fresh start.

  • @bolkenyp nice one !

  • What can change the nature of those 4 men? :p

  • Updated my journal.

  • this game is proof that games can be elevated to an art form

  • legendary game, godlike music, awesome story... forever in my memory...

  • I'm 15 and I just started playing this game today and I think its awesome

  • Done.

  • Ordered by the number of times you hear them:

    1. "Updated my journal."

    2. "A'm go-o-ing."

    3. "Done."

    4. "I'm hurt!"

    5. "Ah coudn't carry anymore so I had to drahp it."

    6. "I feel stronger!"

    7. "What happened to Sigil???"

    8. "This is it."

  • Chris Avellone is fucking awesome. I just hope that Obsidian keeps churning out awesome games: New Vegas and Alpha Protocol are the best. Now they got the legend himself, Tim Cain, working at Obsidian. Just imagine Planescape writing with Fallout engine *AWESOME*!

  • @METALGEARSOL1D Tim Cain is only there until March on contract but I really hope he stays there.

  • @METALGEARSOL1D think it's awesome just the way it is, dont need grafic to mess up my imagination.

Imagination is the best grafic card there is!

  • @METALGEARSOL1D MCA's recent comments suggest they're having trouble making enough money for maintaining staffing levels, nevermind being profitable and successful.

  • @darthbandon10 Well, I know that the South Park RPG and the Wheel of TIme RPG will bring in some much needed revenue. Both of those are hits regardless of the outcome because of the huge fanbases they both have. Even though South Park is not my favorite series, it looks to be an actual RPG unlike all of the bullshit that has been coming out DA: 2, Skyrim, and Deus Ex.

  • @METALGEARSOL1D Though I won't comment on DA: 2, Skyrim and Deus Ex are finely crafted RPGs with a mix of other game styles / genres. Both of those games are great with a respected reputation, criticisms included. With all of my gaming experience, I really wouldn't call them bullshit.

  • @FatalShadowTsu Yeah, I definitely love hiking simulators like Skyrim and letdowns like Human Revolution. They are respected by the kiddy casual gamers not hardcore gamers that love the intrigue of Planescape and the depth of Darklands and Ultima.

  • @METALGEARSOL1D Oh. So someone like me, who played Baldur's Gate and PlaneScape Torment, enjoyed them both (more so the latter), is just a kiddy casual gamer because I enjoy DE:HR and Skyrim? Lol. You should just stop looking through Nostalgic Heart Glasses and have a bit more of an open mind. I'm curious what you think of the first Deus Ex too.

And as far as calling Skyrim a 'hitch hiking sim' goes, you could debase *any* game like that. Not a very impressive form of argument.

  • @FatalShadowTsu The first Deus Ex was smart, but HR was just drivel trying to attract casual gamers. Oh, Baldur's Gate, wow, such a big title. Yeah, Baldur's Gate doesn't impress me. Although it's better than what has been coming out, its crap compared to Betrayal at Kondor and Darklands. You are just a kiddy casual gamer, my friend. Your opinion on games pretty much proves my point. How is calling Skyrim its true identity not an argument. There is no roleplaying in that game.

  • @METALGEARSOL1D If you said such things near the less open minded BG fans, you'd get burned son lol.

Funny you call me a casual gamer when you don't even know how many RPGs I played. Get out of here kid, and take off the nostalgia glasses. Your opinion isn't worth considering until you start being more neutral in your approach. Can't do that though can you? ;)

And honestly, you can call Skyrim 'its true identity' as much as you like, but you're not impressing anyone.

  • @METALGEARSOL1D I could call Planescape a point and click adventure with shitty combat and an engrossing story, but that's not completely true either is it? Seriously dude, your argument is laughable. Debase all you like, your loss.

  • @FatalShadowTsu Well, of course, calling Planescape that isn't fucking true, but Skyrim is a fucking hiking simulator with shitty combat. I'm not even debating its more along the lines of telling you what you are explaining the shittyness of Skyrim. Casual players like yourself don't know what a real game is; therefore, I don't even have to know what games you play. I know you are a casual gamer just by the ones you bring up.

  • @METALGEARSOL1D No. Just no. I would really suggest that you actually PLAY Skyrim first before you bash it. I bash games if I played them and wasn't impressed by them. I don't jump to conclusions like you do. Sorry to point that out, but it is what you are doing...

And no offence meant by the way, but if you don't even know what kind of games I played, it means you can't speak about me being a casual gamer, or hardcore for that matter. You are simply being pre-judgemental. =\

  • @FatalShadowTsu I bet this kid is typing with tears streaming down his face because he finally found a place on youtube where everyone isn't circle jerking to that "le arrow in my le knee le reddit is le win" faggotry.

Skyrim is shit. Fallout 3 was shit. And as far as I'm concerned your tastes in RPGs is worse than shit. It's horrendous. It's casual.

Now off with you. Back to Reddit or whatever shithole forum you belong to. Let the adults talk about REAL RPGs faggot.

  • @spicandspamful if there is any faggot here, is you and METALGEARSOL1D.

Dimwits like you and that other asshole are what gives us older gamers a bad name.

  • @spicandspamful Ok, so if Skyrim is shit, then what is actually good in your opinion? Because afaik, both Skyrim and Fallout 3 were best-selling games and some of the greatest successes of any game developer ever.

But hey, you're entitled to your opinion. Just stfu about ramming it down other people's throats, because you represent a vast minority.

  • @DrMadolite Sales don't mean shit. By your logic, the Call of Duty series is the greatest series ever created. Don't be such a retard.

    Also

    "vast minority"

I'm not sure you know how to use those words...

Face it, Bethesda hasn't been good since Morrowind. They weren't even good before Morrowind. They are horrible at writing dialogue and even worse at constructing a coherent plot. Like Fallout 3.... The game's plot literally made no sense. The main quest was riddled with plotholes.

  • @spicandspamful Maybe you should play Fallout 1 and 2 before starting to complain about plotholes. Plot holes are an integral part of the cheesiness of the Fallout universe. You also seem to forget that your opinion is exactly that - your opinion. I, for one, have played Morrowind and I think that Skyrim is the better game - mostly because the spells and combat make much more sense and can allow me to focus on the actual roleplay without a bunch of meta-game number crunching etc.

  • @DrMadolite

What the fuck are you talking about? It's almost as if you never played the first fallout! Gee....

Also the plotholes in Bethesda's NON CANON RE-IMAGINING of the Fallout Universe were not intentional or added for humor. The story was just the main quests of the first 2 games slapped together (horridly I might add) with one of the worst endings to a video game I've ever seen. But I'm sure the big explosions really captured your attention huh?

  • @spicandspamful Yes and this is the story element of Fallout 3. I can to some extent agree, but a game is not just about the story, or else you could just watch a movie. It's also about visuals (including physics, model design etc), sounds, game mechanics, computer technology (including processing demand), and more.

If you wanted you could try to recreate Fallout 3 with less technology, you might succeed at creating a better in-game experience for yourself, sure. But that's you.

  • @DrMadolite a story in a game is much more captivating than a story in a movie. a movie portrays the story of someone else. a game can allow you to pick your own answers, your own style, PS:T was a game with a LOT of options and bad graphics. these days, the "rpg"'s have graphics, a story, and .. 3options at most i would say. oh ofcourse, you still have the questions to choose. but real CHOICES? 3. IF they even give that many.. most games are as movies these days.. no real choice at all..

  • @Rhonion I think that captivation depends on the game, I think the LOTR movie is a lot more captivating than the LOTR MMO. But I get your point and I agree, but my point still stands. The story is not what makes the game. The story can be great but the game can be shit, and the story can be shit but the game is great. It depends on how all factors come into play. WoW is a great game to some extent, but a shitty game in other respects.

  • @DrMadolite MMO.. ofcourse MMO's aren't as captivating, everyone just skips the dialog anyway. i'm talking about REAL RPG's.

the story doesn't make the game? then what does? it's physics engine?

  • @Rhonion No, the sum of its features is what makes the game.

  • @Rhonion Also, I have my personal preferences like anyone else, but when I judge the "quality" of a game, I look at how popular the game is across the board. Because the only accurate "objective quality" is the quality defined by the mass (democratically). And that's got everything to do with the sales.

  • @DrMadolite quality=/=popularity

critics and the mass often disagree because critics look at content and quality, whereas the mass just looks and thinks "oooohhhh shiny!"

  • @Rhonion critics are also a part of the mass. And if the game wasn't shiny then people wouldn't play. But yeah I guess I can agree because there's hardcore and then there's casual. And casuals don't usually demand that much of a game.

  • @Rhonion Bad graphics??? have you tried PsT with widescreen mod? I say it's absolutely stunning. People often confuse good graphics with graphic realism that most companies strive to in the last decade.

  • @GriffithBotH most people claim there's no difference, and in this case i went along their train of thought to avoid a lot of confusion

  • @DrMadolite Also do you even know why this genre of video game is called RPG? Because when cRPGs first started emerging onto the PC they lifted the same basic rules from tabletops franchises like D&D.

Basically, what you want, is less RPG and more action and this is precisely why we have games like Skyrim and Fallout 3. Because no one wants to use their head to solve problems.

Kid, you wouldn't last a few hours in the Ultima series.

  • @spicandspamful Yeah assuming that cRPGs are ever gonna be anything like table-top RPGs. I hope you don't forget that. RPG has nothing to do about the numbers, it's got to do with you being able to play the role of your character fully and unconstricted within the boundaries of that RP universe's rulesets.

Btw, in my 20+ years of eager gaming and easily 300+ games played, I have actually played a few RPGs as well - including ALL ultima games. So your assumption about me fails.

  • @spicandspamful Did you know that people who call other kids on the internet do it because they're kids themselves?

    just so you know.

Cunts like you is what gave us Older gamers a bad name.

  • Comment removed

  • @spicandspamful Take it as a guarantee that I absolutely despise the 'arrow in the knee' joke. It baffles me how it turned into an internet meme at all. I'm not upset by you or METALGEARSOL1D though. Don't worry!

Tell me what RPGs I played. Go on, all of them. Or do you not know this information? Didn't think that one through did you? ;) You jump to conclusions quite easily...I'm very curious how you will back up your 'casual' statement based on the little information you have.

  • @spicandspamful Oh and, about the 'adult talk' thing... I don't know what your idea is of adult talk, but mature adults don't toss insults to each other. So, guess you got some growing up to do then, don't you? Just let me know when you are ready to have a mature, 'adult talk' about RPGs. All the best!

  • Awesome. Just remember how it was.

  • How does this game compare to Baldur's gate 2?

  • @jwunschie14 story is the best from all of the black isle productions. interaction with npc a lot deeper then in bg2.

  • @jwunschie14 It has a shorter, but far deeper storyline. It uses a dumbed down version of DND, so character customization and combat sequences aren't as good as Baldur's Gate, but the dialog is absolutely brilliant and I promise you this is a game you will never forget.

  • @jwunschie14 BG2 is the best Bioware game, PST is the best Black Isle. Both are masterpieces in their own right though this game is untouchable when it comes to story and dialogue.

  • If I could choose one thing to forget about completely I would choose this game so I could play it again as if I knew nothing about it.

  • @Forfeitdemeanor So If I never played it before never heard anything about the story and downloading it now is it something you pay for something I should be glad about? :-)

  • The damn thing's cursed!

  • Just bought a physical copy, I had to try it after getting tired of people telling me how old games are way better than modern ones. Despite some of the technical difficulties (even though I installed fan-made patches and mods), I am really, really liking this. The huge amount of depth brought by enormous amounts of text and dialogue just can't be matched by voice-acted RPGs. The combat feels a bit lack-luster but I'm letting it slide, I'm about half-way through but can't wait to finish this.

  • @Juuueeel did you finish it?

  • @dageezerboi Yep, did a couple of days ago. It was the best ending I've ever seen in any game, ended up as Lawful Good mage with WIS, INT and CHR maxed. Most of my previous games had been shooters, so the gameplay and slow pace certainly took some getting used to. I propably wouldn't call this my favourite game of all time but the story & setting were by far the best, no contest. ME2 is propably my favourite game thanks to the interesting characters and gameplay which isn't boring as hell. :P

  • @Juuueeel there are a few different endings, I'm guessing you probably merged. If you haven't played it btw you should play Baldur's Gate 2, it's a masterpiece. Definitely Bioware's best game imo.

  • @dageezerboi Yep, merged. I'm a bit suspicious about trying BG2, as its combat seems somewhat similar to Torment's which is not a good thing IMO. Is it any better? If I don't like the gameplay, is the story still worth experiencing? I've seen lots of people praise BG2 for it's gameplay but barely any even mention the story or the characters. Judging by 5 mins of youtubing, the interface seems far from intuitive, clickity clickity click. Perhaps that's just my spoiled FPS ass speaking? :P

  • @Juuueeel Both fantastic in their own way. Torment showcases NON combat, BG2 showcases it. Torment has better storytelling, writing, NPCs, pace and setting no question. The story is still very good (if generic) and alot would argue BG2 is overall a better game. The combat of BG2 is far superior and requires strategy. There is also alot more choice, its much less linear and far bigger. BG2 also has Jon Irenicus, one of the best villains in any game ever. I prefer PS:T, but u may prefer BG2.

  • My favorite game ever. I've played through it at least a dozen times.

  • Lie: "My name is Adahn"

  • Best RPG ever.

  • No multiplayer is an unhealing wound ever since.

  • Comment removed

  • This has probably been said quite a few times before, but I can't think of any other game to match Planescape - Torment in breadth and depth. A true masterpiece that should be taught and learned in schools.

  • PST's OST was originally planned to be Lustmord. You can hear the one track they composed for the game in the official trailer for PST that plays during the Baldur's Gate 2 install movies along with Icewind Dale or Descent 3, I forgot. Glad they "settled" for Mark Morgan, though, because I can't imagine playing the game without this stuff.

  • Hey Chief, You Ok?

  • O_o

Anybody else think this sounds a LOT like the Speed theme?

  • @bloodrunsclear

Sure, the Speed theme. Find myself thinking about the good old Speed theme day and night. Its instrumentation is unmatched in instrumentationness, although this has also instrumentation, which makes it slightly similar, but not as good.

  • Don't forget, some people like scars, too.

  • you know you are a huge fan of this game when your username is transcendent one:)

  • @aggrofool: i thought the same thing, but it's on a plane where abishai (demons) and githzerai walk the streets and willpower alone can change reality. i guess it's possible that TNO just uses sheer force of will to influence people.

  • what bugged me about this game is how a fugly protagonist can get 20+ CHARISMA

  • @Aggrofool Charisma measures a character’s force of personality, persuasiveness, personal magnetism, ability to lead, and physical attractiveness. This ability represents actual strength of personality, not merely how one is perceived by others in a social setting.

  • @Aggrofool Charisma measures a character’s force of personality, persuasiveness, personal magnetism, ability to lead, and physical attractiveness. This ability represents actual strength of personality, not merely how one is perceived by others in a social setting.

  • @Aggrofool Charisma is not (only) dependant on looks. Adolph Hitler was not the best looking man either, and very blunt in his speech, but still he is recognized as one of the most charismatic men of his time.

  • this game is definately a 'once in a lifetime'-experience and the best RPG ever made!

  • This is the one game that I can call THE BEST, and not one of the best. You have other good, great, excellent games, then in its own league, you have PST.

  • Planes. There should be more games based in them. I want to back to Sigil, once again, and again and again. Damn, I want portal to Sigil placed in my room !

  • @dfeas10

I don't. Someone would shiv ye 'fore Peak was up.

  • its odd that this is a spinoff of another game, which is in turn one of the countless spinoffs of D&D.

still, this is the best damn game ever made.

  • when I finished planescape I was disappointed because I knew I would never play such awesome and epic game like this one.

  • @1618dude Sad but true indeed.

  • I feel sorry for throwing away the big box it came in. I feel sorry for the scratches on the Annah disc. I feel sorry for everything I did to this game.

I remember the day I bought it. I was 10 years old and I saw the cover. I was like "THAT BLUE MAN IS SO COOL!"... will never forget this game. Will reinstall as we speak.

  • What can change the nature of a man?

    Playing this game.

  • Planescape torment, a game where you had stats influence like fallout 3, where you could develop your story of your team members like in ME2, but 10 years in advance!

A great avant-garde game with the best rpg components :)

  • @toto42s Woah, woah, woah. Don't ever mention Fallout 3 and ME2 in the same sentence as Torment. Planescape: Torment is in a different league.

  • For the first-timers: Be sure to keep a high wisdom on your first play through.

  • Best game ever!

  • Ive been playing Diablo II Hellfire for so long and their was a music track I had no idea where it had come from.

Now that i had found where it came from, my life is complete.

  • What can change the nature of a man?

  • @Feralbreed Regret.

  • My strongest memory of this game was the slow unraveling of how you had previously fucked over Daa'kon. Endure, and in enduring grow strong

  • The hours I spent discovering layer upon layer of story and character in this magnificent game. One of the few games where you can honestly say that you missed out on something great if you didn't play it.

  • 2 people... err...

I dont know why on earth someone could dislike this.

  • So, in how many games can you talk someone out of existence? Or into existence?

  • The only problem with this game is that nothing you play afterward ever measures up. It's such a shame that it was largely overlooked; I can't believe I only heard of and played it recently!

  • @FinalBrick

Mask of the Betrayer comes damn close. As in, not really close, but as close as one can come to that closeness. Oh, and War of the Lions.

  • @Whitecroc Avellone riffed off his PST work in KOTOR2 - Kreia is a lot like Ravel, the scenes on Malachor (the originally planned ones) feel inspired by the Fortress of Regrets, the whole "main character with lost identity" thing, beliefs being more important than factions, companions live\die at the end depending on player choice, and the general dark tone.

  • @darthbandon10

You're right. I think that's why I love KotOR 2 so much more than the first. It felt darker and more atmospheric, like Planescape. And Kreia is totally Ravel.

  • @LCWynter yeah just a shame it was so rushed

  • @FinalBrick I've owned PS:T for 12 years already. It indeed is brillant. Recently I tried to play it again, but alas... it does not function well on Win7 x64 when you have an nVidia card. I did discover that Good Old Games seems to patch games. (Their Caesar 3 works on my system, while my own original does not.) I've rebought PS:T from them, hoping that their version works, without me needing to set up a Win98 Virtual Machine...

  • Update... the GoG version works fine under Windows 7 x64. No more mouse glitches, no more movie stuttering, and no more graphics scrambling. The only problem remaining is that the game does not quit cleanly: Win7 generates a crash report. (It also does so with the original CD-based one.) Still, I can live with that.

*Gone to play this game again after years and years*

  • @SilverHammond Yeah, GoG is great. I've never had a problem with anything I've bought there; in fact, that's where I finally got Planescape.

  • @FinalBrick Fixed the crash report! Find "Microsoft Application Compatibility Toolkit" and install it. Rename the default database; then add a new application. Of course, add Planescape Torment (give the path to it's .exe file) Choose Windows XP SP3 as execution mode. Then, add these compatibility settings: ForceDirectDrawEmulation (if you have graphics glitches) EmulateHeap IgnoreCRTExit IgnoreFreeLibrary NoShadow Then save and install the database. PS:T runs perfectly now!
  • @FinalBrick I agree completely. I have serious doubts that a game will ever enthrall me the way PST did. The level of immersion and the quality of the narration is sublime. There's just no better RPG out there, and it's not likely to ever be surpassed.

  • @FinalBrick

it was the first RPG i ever played, and first game i ever finished. And when i tell people that i think Baldur's Gate was boring and uninteresting as shit, and that i can't find any good RPG, they don't understand, or get mad that i'm talking down their beloved game :-D

  • @MidnightSt Personally, I loved both. I think Planescape was a bit better written, but Baldur's Gate was a fine series, too. I'd recommend Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura if you're looking for another excellently written RPG...just be ware. The game balance and bugs can be a little...unkind. But I'd say the writing comes very close to PST.

  • @Night10194 I know Arcanum, i've tried it and i think it was the (un)balance that threw me off (even before it had time to present its writing). thanks for the tip anyway, it's certainly a game i'll go back to and try again sometimes.

  • imagine this as a TV series?! hoo wee

  • The people who want to play the game one advice. Keep the orb that you get in the beginning, dont sell it dont throw it away. :D

  • 'His Soul' That can change the nature of a man.

  • I have played Fallout 1 and 2, and are my favorite RPGs, have not played this, Ill be sure to give it a try. Baldur's Gate II was really good too, It's just a tad hard, I'm stuck lol.

  • It's time for a epic history and finally a redemption

  • This game had, without a doubt, one of the best stories in video game history. The crime is that it was so overlooked, even though it still to this day has a huge following. You'd never really see it win an overall Game of the Year Award, but man...talk about epic.

  • Comment removed

  • This is a game of profound meaning.

  • I learned English from this game really. I played it with a dictionary on my left hand. This is better than fucking Headway or others. By the way i forgot the answer of "what can change the nature of man?":(((

  • @ozgunguner There isn't a "correct" answer to that one. If I were to chose one however, I would chose "Belief", because throughout your journeys, you learn that belief is the one thing that allows you to do anything, be anything you wish.

  • @Pervsalom That's the whole point of the story. The correct answer is the answer that feels correct to YOU, the player. RPG at it's best.

  • I want a copy of this game buried with me when I die..

  • What is that bell-like sample at the start? and throughout the next 20 seconds? I hear it all the time in Goldeneye music

  • Comment removed

  • @Biake22 Yes. Buy it (PS:T) now.

Not that I want to advertise, but gog dot com has a downloadable copy for 10$ if you don't have a retailer around.

  • @Biake22 yes it's the best game ever made.

  • @dageezerboi I looked at 1 gameplay video of this, and it seemed to be a lot about magic using. I like games where you have a party and use a little more strategy for fights. Do you think I would like Icewind Dale better?

  • @Biake22 Possibly. there is only alot of magic if you want there to be. both are totally different games. Planescape is all about the story, dialogue and characters whereas Icewind dale is all about the combat and nothing else. Baldurs gate 1/2 are a middle ground if you like. they have the perfect balance of story, writing, party interaction and combat. imo Planescape and the BG series (BG2 in particular) are far superior. IWD is combat after combat, paper thin story and zero party interaction.

  • @dageezerboi Yeah but Icewind Dale is the one from the three to be more like traditional pnp Dungeons and Dragons, and that's what makes it unique (though it still isn't up there with Torment or Baldur's Gate 2)

  • @Biake22 if favor fighting over story/plot, yes Icewind Dale will be better (cool story there too but nothing like Torment)

  • This game was, simply put, the shit.

  • What can change the nature of spoilers?

  • What can change the nature of a man ?

  • This music is insane!

  • I wish there was an option for "Love--and thank Mark Morgan for everything he has created."

  • If you like games like this, you should try Shadow Run on Super NES/Famicom and Megadrive too. They´re not round based, but also atmospheric.

  • I will play this after I finish Icewind Dale on hardcore difficulty, I already bought it.

  • True masterpiece!

  • I loved the story behind it: Dude stopped the blood war. You don't stop the blood war!!!

  • @Thiefenz In *knowing* the teachings of Thiefenz, I have become spoiled.

Thanks fer rattlin' yer bone-box ya soddin' piker. I pray ta the powers that tha Lady's shadow falls upon ye. Once ye're a deader, I'll give ya ta tha dusties fer jink.

  • @ShawnPattonC huh? what did I do to you?

  • @Thiefenz You gave away one of the bigger secrets about the Nameless One's past. I haven't beaten PS:T yet and now you've ruined my first time through.

  • @ShawnPattonC oh.

you have my sincerest apologies. however I don't recall the game mentioning this. I listed a bit of lore my dad told me, which was unbelievable considering how much I know about planar lore in a fictional universe.

still, I didn't mean to ruin it for you

  • @Thiefenz Well, I can forgive you, but I don't think the Mercykillers can.

  • I love the story behind it

  • Comment removed

  • @Steph3ns Depends on how you look at it. I know I played both, and I loved both of them with all my heart. All I can say is that there are times I seriously began sobbing in Torment's story. BG 's story was well done, just I never really sobbed like I did with Torment. I think if you loved the story aspect of BG and want more, Torment is definitely the one you want. If you liked the hack n slash stuff in BG, then Torment may not be your cup of tea.

  • @CharlettMoon Thanks for your input, pretty sure im going to buy this game

  • Playing this game was one of the best experience I had as a gamer...Seriously Hollywood look at this story to create a possible adaption on screen, it's worth the try...

  • we should blast a copy of this game into space as the supreme example to aliens of mankind's brilliance

  • @warbastard Or convince them we are a race of Badasses who are unkillable.

  • @warbastard Funny. 5 Seconds ago I thought, that, if I would ever been asked what one of the greatest achievements of mankind would be, I would answer: Planescape: Torment. Seriously.

  • @warbastard it really is one of the best literary works in the gaming industry.

  • We can't really complain when people are unsatisfied after trying out a video game and finding an excellent book mounted on pixels, now can we?

Torment's brilliant for what it is, but "what it is" involves reading a novel's worth of dialogue boxes. Some people are not going to be able to get into that, through no weakness of their own.

  • @Kizor

Some people are unsatisfied with third person shooters and want them to be first person. Maybe they should have checked out what type of game it was before they played it. Lots of reading is just a game aspect.

  • To everyone out there saying that Baldurs gate and fallout are better games, consider the fact that Torment really shines if you can follow the rythm of the complexity of the historyline, and that if you play Torment when you are a 12 yrs old kid, then (most probably) you are gonna miss a lot of the game that if you play it whit at least some strong base on Philosophy and literature, since both the characters and the story are much more complex that what it seems. It is just like a book.

  • @TPOver9000 But thats the thing many are judging it off the merits of not just a story but a video game as a whole. Yes Torments story is amazing and still nothing I've played to this day can match it but in terms of the total package Fallout and Baldur's Gate were simply more balanced out. Both had good all around gameplay, story, dialogue everything while Torments only real strong point was it's dialogue and overall story.

  • @megaman6382 yes you are right about that, game wise baldurs gate and fallout are more balanced games that PST, in my opinion the plot elements of PST are more important than the balance in the Bg saga and the Fallout series then again that is just my opinion, im just saying that a game like PST can probably give you a surprise if you re play it once in a while the same way that any piece of art change with our perspective over the years.

  • @megaman6382 Not only dialogue and storybut also the whole scenario and those great characters! Each one of them has a troublesome story, widely covered in mysteries and secrets, but each of the possible companions of the Nameless one could deserve their own game.

  • Very good game, but not as good as Baldur's Gate and Fallout saga.

  • @Asnaedor I would say Fallout>Planescape>Baldur's Gate, in that order.

  • Looks like Fallout 2

  • The 2010 Guinness Book of World Records: Gamer's Edition ranked PS:T 5th in Top 10 RPGs you have to play.

Screw them. It deserves 1st place.

  • @animedanceluver What are the others? Could you give me the whole list?

  • This sounds a little like the Predator theme song towards the end.

  • @CrutoniaFilms thats exactly what i always think when i listen to this or play the game

    predator theme ^_^

  • I really liked this game. I never got to completely play through it though since I couldn't really figure out how to solve some those quests or where to go but I was a kid back then when I played it. If there was a Vista compatible version of it available on GOG or Steam, I would purchase it in a heartbeat.

  • @Infantry9 Amazon sell a Vista compatible DVD version.
