There is a difference between a guy with a gun and a sniper. A sniper is trained. A guy with a gun is what you have in this video. If that had been a sniper, most of those marines would not have survived.

@gtrguy95 I know what the reporter said. He also said they were facing a sniper. That wasn't true either. The Lee Enfield is still manufactured in Afghanistan. That rifle is brand new. You are correct though. A 70 year old rifle in the hands of a retard isn't very effective. Neither is a new one.

@sipplet2009 the lee enfield rifle is a british weapon. They are still manufactured in various countries including strangely afghanistan. Kyber enfields have remained in production in Afghansitan since the British were occupying the country. They may be getting weapons from russian arms dealers, but I didn't see any evidence of it in this video. The lee enfield is a pretty good rifle in the right hands.

@sipplet2009 I agree. Not only was this not a well trained sniper, this was someone who lacked even basic marksmanship training. The reporter said that he thought the shooter was using a lee enfield, which is possible since they are actually manufactured in Afghanistan. Its hard to say since the actual rifle was never shown.

This was not a sniper. At 200 yards snipers don't miss and they don't expose their position unless certain of their target.

@DarthTroller "Squirters" we're at a few hundred yards away. Squirters we're the Taliban that were trying to fall back and escape. Those "snipers" were are using Mosin Nagant's and apparently Lee-Enfield's from WWII. They are accurate out to 1000 yards WITHOUT optics. If you knew anything about shooting, wind will not effect a caliber bullet of those two rifles under 300-400 yards. Those Taliban shooters were trying to gauge the cross winds, which would put them well over 700 yards away.

@shnicklefritz5 a shot like that isn't what I would call impressive, though it was unfortunate for the Marine that he experienced a moment of pain. At 200 yards a sniper could have taken out all 4 Marines forward of the wall. At over 300 yards it would have been worse. Their NCO would have been hit too. I'm not saying don't respect the enemy. I'm saying that particular enemy was not a sniper and his shooting is definitely not impressive. They are lucky he wasn't a sniper.

That was during WW11. During WW11 only 15-20% of combat soldiers would fire their weapon in a firefight. In Vietnam that number rose to 95%. I read it in a book called "On Killing". Really damn good book.
