I'm from Lake Charles, LA, and I miss K & B. We had one on fifth avenue in the Wilshire Plaza, which shut down (once market basket left the shopping center) before the buy out, hwy 14, Ryan street, McNeese St, and one in the mall. I wish they wouldn't have sold to rite aid. It's unfortunate that they had to sell, but I even would have been okay w/ walgreens, but rite aid?? Why?
Actually several different drug stores bought them out. Rite Aid was only one of them. I worked at the one on Mobile Hwy in Pensacola from '86 to '93.
WOW !!!!!!! My mom use to work at the one in Gentilly next to "WoolWorths" if you from New Orleans you know what that is! Can anyone say Esplanade and Broad!!! Man I got all my Holloween costumes in a box from there when I was a kid!!!!! Yea I miss the Vanilla Ice Cream and Cookies and Cream!
i miss K&B soo much! This slogan says, "personally yours" but i miss the jingle "between here and there, there's bound to be a k&b" .. i know you're singing it right now! :)
I remember going to the FWB area K&B's years ago. One used to be near my house in niceville next to a delchamps (now defunct) and had the best ice cream anywhere.
K&B sold Beer Beer. Had a friend tell me to run to K&B and pick up a case of Beer. I said Bud, Coors....what ya want? He said Beer Beer. I said "so any brand will do?" He said no! I want the K&B BEER. Its just called Beer and its CHEAP!!!
Rite Aid promised to maintain the K&B brand on some products when they bought the chain out, and then proceeded to do away with it. I refuse to buy anything from Rite Aid because of this if I can at all avoid it. I miss K&B, Maison Blanche, D. H. Holmes, Schwegmann's and the other fine retailers that gave New Orleans a big part of its unique character. Now all that's left is the same big national chain stores every other city has.
Rite Aid is going bankrupt so they soon will be history also. All that will be left is Wal-Mart. You also left out the National grocery store chain. I miss That Stanley.
@CajunGypsy really? I was not aware of that (rite aid promising to maintain some of the K&B brand items), I wish they would have. I will admit that I do harbor some resentment over rite aid for this
I used to always go here. Anyone remember the Violet mints they used to sell? I still call a deep, vivid purple "K&B purple." Their headquarters were right next to the I-10 back home in New Orleans downtown.
I miss the Ice Cream and those automatic little doors that opened when you would go through the front doors and made that grinding sound as they opened...
Me too! The K&B by my house on Carrollton Ave. had a person working a soda fountain. It had booths with small juke boxes that played old N.O. music like the Meters and Prof. Longhair, and others like Sly Stone, Otis Redding, Marvin Gaye, and Stevie Wonder... peace brah, from Uptown.
Yeah... turns out they had a presence in at least five different states. There used to be a mall store in Port Arthur, TX, where I'm from. How I loved it...
OMG i remember the "personally yours" sound effects after all these years. it is truly said that K&B (and mckenzie's doughnuts, for that matter) is only a memory. :(
erin: yeah...the 'personally yours' sound effects were tight...i just listened to it...there's an al scramuzza and mckenzie's commercial somewhere around here...i left a comment on your profile...
As a kid, I remember the K&B on Gentilly Blvd. It used to have this huge sign with the words "DRUGS". Even though it was a drug store, I found that strange as a kid. Do you remember that sign? It was beaucoup big!!!!!

Yup...'tis true when they say you don't really appreciate something until it's gone. <|,-(

i know. Rite Aid is completing their takeover of Eckerd's at the moment. i will never support that drugstore chain that took my beloved K&B away!
kitten112481 3 years ago
our Eckerd's closed long time ago--way before the CVS take over of most of the chain in the South. Miss that one too.

"Between here and there, there's bound to be a K&B!" -- loved that jingle and miss the store.
