@jgk381 Yes, you can get a darker, warmer tone if you roll the tone down. If you want to get really close to Jamerson's tone, you can try flatwound strings.
@dspugs I am playing through a Fender Bassman 250/210 Combo Amp, with the bass and mids boosted about halfway and treble set flat. On the bass, my volume is up full, and the tone is up about 75%.
Hi Brother, I need some advice from you. I am confused between VM jazz or P bass, actually i ma looking for more punchy and growl for slap and thump. can you please suggest me one? Or should i go for classic vibe, is it a better construction? the bass that you are playing is fantastic, sounds much better than fender MIM...please advice.
Excellent!! Thanks for making this video! This model is one of three Squires I am considering. The other two are classic vibe p basses. Might be a little hard to choose - the Duncans on this one sure sound great, and so does your playing!

great cover, watched this with amimbari's and billymega watts and all were perfect. This one especially with the extra slap bass at the end. Keep up the work!
It's amazing how intricate the old motown basslines were. Especially with Stevie Wonder. Players nowadays that just play 1-3-5 have no originality. These musicians were pioneers!
You mention modifications on your squier, wich ones? I am planning on buying a bass this summer ( I am already a guitar player).
Should i go for the fender or the squier? I wish to play funky stuff (smooth bass lines like those on your video, great playing by the way) but i'd also like to play some rage against the machine and some metal, i was wondering if that bass was versatile...
This bass comes with a Duncan Designed P-Bass pickup from the factory. That's where the "vintage modified" description comes from. I haven't made any modifications to it. When choosing a bass, it depends on the kind of tone you like. The Fender Precision is great for classic R&B and rock, or anything that calls for a deep, fat bass tone. The Fender Jazz Bass has a brighter tone, and is well suited for R&B, Jazz & Funk. You have to decide what sounds best to your ears.
you have da groove man!
by the way, what strings do you use?

Great videos and great playing... you cover all my favorite songs. Its hard to find demo's of these basses playing the music I play myself. Thank you.
Quick question on this P-bass, can you get a good smooth/dark Jamerson tone from it too when's the tone's rolled all the way down?
Thanks

go for a P bass. It's great for funk and can also be used for Metal and harder sounding styles of music
