you know the world managed to survive without you idiotic left wing communist red diaper doper babies!!!! do you think GOD needs you to tell us what we can do with the earth???
I never heard of natural selection land. How much does the wood cost? Can't we just farm trees? I mean redwoods grow extremely fast and can be grown in places other than CA. They make some of the best construction lumber because redwood doesn't rot easily.
Tree farms are ok as long as we are not replacing wilderness with tree farms. I can buy natural selection harvested wood from two sources here in S. Oregon as cheep or cheeper than I can buy from the yard.
In theory your idea of selective logging sounds good but in my experience a good wind storm would blow down the remaining trees. I think your protesting the wrong idea, what you should be focussed on is the worlds surplus human population, thats the real problem. We keep sending money to save sick dying people, why don't you protest that?
"selective logging" is not a good term as it has been abused in practice, "natural selection" is better. Large trees left in place, only smaller, not going to last trees are taken, and never taken out by the same path. Roads are small, golf carts and animals are good for extraction of logged wood. Come to S. oregon and we will take you on a tour of natural selection land.
Population is not the problem, consumption is the problem.
hey look a herd of hippy hypocrites, I bet you jobless fucks use wood products or live in wood houses maybe even from that forest you tried to protect... whatta fucken joke!
We have jobs, we live in alternative housing and use natural selection wood. You are the joke; such ignorance. BTW few of us are "hippies". I am a bit of a red neck thank you, a redneck for environmental sanity.
if people wish to save the land they should collect their money to buy it. If 1,000,000 people donated $1 that's enough to save hundreds of acres of land from being destroyed. I don't know attacking working class loggers seems rather pointless. You kill the snake by attacking the head.
Yes, a corrupt government inspite of overwhealming public opposition subsidies corps to steal the forests from the people. They also make many intentional "mistakes" and log where they are not suppose to log.
The lands are public lands not private. The vast majority of people do not want wilderness and old growth logged and understand that forest need to be expanded. The land is already public we should not have to buy it to save it. Loggers amount to a special interest. Other economic interests are dependent on the forest remaining intact.
That is a good question. Collusion b/w govt and corp interest is the answer. John West is one example; he has logged raparian zones, protected blue spruce, outside sale boundaries, trail heads, and more. Yet he is given first choice of units. He should not even be allowed to bid.
The "head of the snake" is the Bush forest service and the likes of John West. Such are the targets of our efforts; not the workers. The workers are being screwed not by enviros but by the industry.
Their acts are a nice gesture, but they won't change anything. Like I said the snake dies by the head. I'm not condemning their acts, just be smart about it.
FYI, while our local loggers stand in welfair lines, cutters are brought in from out of state. Why? Local loggers are more sensitive about environmental abuse. They live here. Also, some of our local "loggers" support non-corp natural selection. They make a good living and get the support of forest defenders.
The protestors clean up the mess left behind by loggers and tourists. The old growth and wilderness is not a "renewable resource". Your ignorance is showing.
Thanks for a heartbreaking video, here in Aust our precious forests are destroyed by the export woodchip indusstry, check out the vid we made called "Your forests are Not in safe hands"....you can find it if you type the tiltle into the you tube search bar.
Hopefully soon the destruction will come to an end.
hmmm. Perhaps this is true of those who engage in direct action, just as seems to be true with most issue politics, including labor. However, more and more mainstream America is comming to understand the relationship b/w the big trees, sustainable environemental quality (air and water) and economics. They may not go out into the woods and stand in front of logging trucks, but they write letters, donate $, and make efforts to lower their impact.
The last campaign I was involved w/ was about 1/2 young radicals, and 1/2 older folk. Amoung the older folks about 25% were hippies, the rest varied widely, including a cutter. None of the younger kids were "hippies".
Good to see that more stable people are getting into this fight. Now if we could only get couragous people that will battle instead of demonstrate. Because as long as the kid gloves approach is used they will keep on trucking.
More stable people? Robert you are a nut case. Your racism makes your identity present. BTW, a white anti-racist is not a self hater, but a self lover. It is because they love and respect themselves that they can love and respect Others.
Name calling again? And putting words in my mouth?
Perhaps my comment about more stable people getting on board was premature? Are you really that threatened by independent thought??
Think about this:
The biggest pushers of ethnic/racial mixing and multiculturalism are the very people you are fighting against. The corporations. They set up a straw man for you and you all go for it. All while they sell you down the river. You are pawns. So are most racists.
BTW MBV, your lies are so transparent when you admit that ATVs cause damage and then refuse to aknowledge the much greater harm done by clear cutting. Cut your ass out of the loop, hire the loggers ourselves to cut wood for our homes and local craft industry, employ natural selection, and guess what we all win, save you. Too bad for you.
Small... Go back 2 your cave and dont burn wood 2 keep worm and dont kill anything 2 cover your ass and please put down your bong loggers can not just cut wood for one home at a time moron! we use wood 4 all kinds of things not just your home! You have no clue how the real world works!
I know how it works and I know how it could work. I have a friend who has used natural selection harvesting for over 40 years. In the long run, NS increases yield over clear cutting. I use wood; naturally selected wood, and why could I not get a permit to NS harvest in non-wilderness area designated and managed for sustainability and then hire a self employed logger to cut and mill. Done all the time on privite land. See you are the one that is full of shit.
You sir are incapable of living in reality if you think that a small time mill can supply the overall demand for wood product! What you are advocating would not even supply the paper you need to wipe your ass! Thank god that the overwhelming majority in the US recognizes you as the Tree Hugging Nut Job you are!
I do not need paper to wipe my ass. No the majority recognize you as a greedy pig. I am no hippy by the way. Just another red neck for environmental sanity.
Theft and Greed...Let's see how we match up! I am an employer of people and those workers support families, pay taxis, put their kids through school and you are not! My employees make an honest living harvesting trees you make an honest living working at Starbucks serving coffee in paper cups with a nice thick paper wrap made of wood and you call me a pig! LOL
Small.. No disrespect but you have no clue as 2 what you are talking about. I am part of the logging industry and we work with the Div of forestry and do an excellent job managing the forest. And as 4 the profits let me just say that you are way off if you think that mushroom and ginseng hunters even come close to the kind of money logging brings in. And as 4 tourists well you need to see how far ATV riders travel to enjoy my logging roads pumping hard cash into small town USA.
You sir are a lyer. I do know what I am talking about as I work w/the environmental scientists opposing your crap. You manage for profit, not for sustainability The state of Oregon sees little money from the logging industry; we would fair better w/tourism and carbon credits. ATV riders are more locals than tourists, but they need to be restrained.

We need to outlaw prvt. resale profit from public property. N.S. harvest of wood, mushroom, and more should be for personal or non-profit use.

I am not to into hippy tree huggers.
But I hate big business and it's destruction of our great land. The logging industry is just a little part of a big picture.

Problems are:
1. we cut faster than they grow.
2. Wilderness is being lost.
3. the logging industry profits are at the price of other business from mushroom hunters to tourist based
4. even the hunters, fishers, and other sports folks are starting to complain.
5. Clearcutting (the dominant method employed) is doing harm to our water.
6. We need to expand our forest, the undergrowth, and the allow greater maturity is one step in our plan of attack on global warming.
