  • Nice video, I use a .357 myself.

  • It's official i'm gettin myself a 357 for my first pistol

  • Great video man! Totally enjoyed it

  • oops guess you just answered that

  • did you know the official "level" of protection it offers?

  • good video well presented good camera skills

  • I bet you are glad that you never had to test this vest in real life.

  • @hial22 amen to that.

  • Very cool dude!

    Thanks for that.

  • @Smokin07ram Thanks for watching. It was a fun one to put together.

  • It might have been interesting to have done a knife stab test as well :-)

  • Thats a really beautiful model 70.

  • Really enjoyable vid!

  • This was really interesting to watch. Thanks for destroying your vest for us:-)

  • @Theophilus1978 Thanks for watching.

  • @TrackStar828 soft pads can stop a .22 maybe .9mm there are different plates for different calibers for small caliber handguns to rifle rounds and shotgun rounds a plates is a way to go

  • @TrackStar828 depends on which kind there are different ones for military and police. I wear a Kevlar vest with a trauma plate for my duty vest

  • Good solid video well explained thanks man.

  • isnt the vest suppose to have a thin plate behind it ? mine is the same vest but with a plate behind it

  • I like the video...could have made it a little shorter. A little redundant with a lot of things.

  • A++ demonstration.. Thanks for the vid, had fun watching...

  • Can someone tell me the difference between soft armor (kevlar) and ceramic plate armor? Is one stronger than the other?

  • i have two of those calibers..i have the glock 40 model 22 and a Saiga 308 ak...love these guns ..thanks for the vid..very well done

  • @Damian1975 Thanks. It was a lot of fun.

  • Even expired...

  • this is a SERIOUS vest...

  • Thumbs up if you moved your head to the right to try and look down the sights

  • I wonder how it would have done against that .308 if you had folded it in half or even folded it twice just to see if you could get it to stop a rifle round. too bad you don't have a bunch of'em laying around the house! HAHA

  • That looked fun!

  • I love Kimbers!! my favorite 1911s, my cousin in laws german shepherds name is kimber because his dad competition shoots with kimbers

  • i wonder if you put up the front and back and doubled it what that would do??

  • Dude! your wife is awesome! Buying you all that cool stuff for xmas!

  • They are not called bullet proof vest....for that's saying its 100% bullet proof. It's a Ballistic Vest. That is all. Great Vid. I hope mine never needs to be tested in actuality

  • Great video. Very cool. Thanks

  • good video

  • NIJ level II or IIIA vest?

  • cool vid man

  • You should have folded it in half and shot it then with the .308 and seen if it went through

  • Cool dude

  • .357 was the best..... 45 was poop . 45 is for knock down close range only, but the 1911 was one of the best guns ever made. I don't like 40's there almost all plastic. .375 mag is the best the only disadvantage is it holds less rounds but the gun will last forever..... thanks for the test. of course the rifle was the strongest...

  • Comment removed

  • That was awesome, but ya shoulda hit again with the kimber because im amazed at that result. Also, can you tell me when the manufacture and expiration dates are, i have an expired vest too [always figured even if expired it still had some protective value]

  • @CRXluvr I think it expired about 5-7 years ago.

  • with one would you Recommend ? i cant desice between a 357 or a 45!

  • shoulda used the back panel for defensive ammo

  • Nice video, now I know not to get shot with a high powered rifle with my bullet proof vest.

  • Pllllllease shoot it with a glock 20 10mm

  • LOL if it wasn't for his wife and grandpa this guy wouldn't have shit

  • Love the video, very cool to see and make our own conclusions from. My only disappointment was that you didn't shoot the vest another time with the .45 to see if it had the same result. The .40 and .357 both got two to confirm their damage after all.

  • Awesome video. I wish I had a place as nice as yours to go out and shoot whenever I want.

  • @metalstorm91291 I consider myself lucky to have that open space available.

  • Worth Watching!!! Thanks for the Vid.

  • how old was this vest?

sorry if this was already asked.

  • good vid good edit.

  • Thanks for making this I recently purchased a older vest and the panels are so thin and flexible that I really thought I got ripped off thinking no way this stops a bullet (: buy I know now I'm

    Safe !! Thanks

  • Most self defense shooting is at around 10 feet

  • I'm just curious has to what grains the bullets you shot in each caliber were

  • @cbarrett83 Info in description.

  • Thanks for sacrificing the vest so we didn't have to!

  • Crocket: thanks for sacrificing your vest in the name of science. Very interesting.

  • damn good video ... good man

  • AAHHH I can't believe you shot your vest they don't expire that's just how long they can be sold as armor aftert that any one can buy them I have a lvl3 with lvl2A cut protecter and a lvl2A jacket eather way nice video.

  • Hey is this Saul Goodman from Breaking Bad testing bulletproof vests?

  • Nice work bro. Very informative. And the pistol and knife from the wife as gifts, you're a lucky man.

  • @justgedotech Yes sir. Thanks for watching.

  • @justgedotech well i mean there not really girts if there from ur wife i mean she used ur money to but it lol

  • @rune2u4u gifts

  • Very sweet video! Bet this one was fun to make.

Would have been interesting to see 9mm also.

Now u need a new vest! Haha

  • @ Cr0cket20

Also, i would appreciate it if you'd email me and tell me how the armored division job is, and your experience? It would really help me make my decision. Thanks man. Killabenz09@yahoo.com

  • @cr0cket20

I know you said you're not trying to prove anything, but I appreciate this video on the fact that I'm researching which caliber to go with, and this has helped tremendously. I plan on going into law enforcement, and actually have a job offer for an armored division guard. I'm going with a Glock on the sole purpose of reliability and easy maintenance, and haven't been able to decide on the .40 or .45. Seeing the damage done by the .40 compared to the .45, I think I've made my choice.

  • Great video, it was funny to see just how good these vests can be for pistols even with age.

I was surprised to not see a ceramic plate in the front of the vest? You guys don't use them? I am told they can withstand a .308 round but don't quote me on that.

    Cheers -- Nick

  • @IvanKesja I've heard much the same. Some of that internal damage can cause a lot of issues down the road (if not soon after).

  • Good work man ! Now I feel like target shooting :-)

  • great video, nice camera work and great top of the line guns, that kimber was sooo sexy.

  • @Bskidz1983 Thanks. That Kimber has been a fun one to shoot. Great little gun.

  • @Cr0cket20 i am looking to get a .357 mag and i am in a toss up between the GP100 and the 686, i want a stainless steel 6in revolver. the only real up side to the 686 is the extra bullet but the price difference between the 2 is more than a little bit. i like the way the S&W looks better but the Ruger looks very close. both seem very reliable so i dont know whats a better gun this will be my 1st revolver and i want a very accurate gun so please let me know what u think, take care 4 now

  • @Bskidz1983 I've never shot the ruger. But I really enjoy the 686. Mine is the 6 shot version, but I really like the way it handles and looks. My first revolver too and I have not regretted it.

  • OUSTANDING VIDEO.

  • i've always wanted to do this myself... great video!

  • @mva1985 Thanks man. It was a lot of fun. I figured the vest was just laying around. I really have no use for it anymore...why not.

  • Awesome video, how much would a bullet resistent vest cost new?

  • this was such a cool video! thanks for sharing!

  • actually the .40,.357, and .45 are technically a bigger bullet than the .308. hints their caliber...

  • @hiimstevie15 Does not matter the caliber, or if it is bugger, it is the velocity that is the main factor. A paperclip traveling 6,000 M/s would also penetrate.

@Cr0cket20 Just goes to show that even an "old" vest will still save your life.

  • Sir, Thats a Bullet Resistant Vest. Nothing is Bulletproof!

  • The Pre-64 is sought after because it has the large Mauser claw extractor! Winchester has gone back to that in the newer rifles!

  • great vid. really like the slow motion close-up of impact. Also cutting back the fabric to see how the actual kevlar or 'bullet proof' material works. keep it up! good approach too with the 'prove absolutely nothing pov' cheers!

  • its a good thing bad guys dont stray far from their 9mm or 380s. that 308 did its job and i would expect that a 5.56 nato would penetrate as well

  • cool vid man

  • that was pretty cool...did you find the .45 that bounced off?

  • @bstjames1611 I did not. After watching the video, I realized I was looking in the wrong area for it. Should have been looking further out from the point of impact.

  • @Cr0cket20 you should see if you can find some other old/out of date vests for cheap and try some other rounds like shotgun slugs, tracer rounds, 40mm granades. you know nothing crazy lol jk....but i would like to see more testing like this it was interesting to see what happens up close . plus your my new fav person to watch on youtube so keep the vids coming

  • awesome video. that winchester is a mighty fine rifle

  • lol the kevlar vest is what it says it is, just tightly woven kevlar, layer upon layer of it.

  • is that your wife's hair squeegie on your wrist??

  • @aFullPoopSack Nope, it's my sisters.

  • Cheap ammo is what the bad guys will be using. Very awesome of you to use a good bullet proof vest to show us the stopping power of one. But then again it's good to know if a vest you're wearing actually stop bullets. If it works another $1,000 for a new one, is a good insurance policy.

  • you still wouldn't wanna get hit because it would probably break your ribs

  • BTW, fellow pre-64 Model 70 owner here. Mine is a 1956-vintage Featherweight in .30-06. Originally it belonged to my wife's grandfather. My father-in-law doesn't hunt any more and the oldest son had no interest in it. I was very happy to accept the rifle and will pass it on to one of my own children when they're of age. Ain't tradition great?

  • Those imprints and reaction of the water bottles really makes you appreciate why trauma plates were developed for soft armor. Imagine those pistol hits directly in front of your heart. The impact could still seriously damage your pump.

Soft armor really needs a trauma plate.

  • Sweet Video... You shold have folded up the vest and see if you could have stoped the .308..

  • That Pre64 Model 70 is a beautiful rifle.

  • would it stop a 12 gauge slug?

  • @machinegun911 It probably wouldnt penetrate, but it might kill you due to blunt force trauma.

  • It is pretty cool to see the guts of one o these vests. You should put one on a dummy/mannequin and what kind of damage it does.

  • Cocket what an informative vid. Im glad to see that the vest did it's job, more than once too.

  • @ScoutsNOA I was surprised at the vest stopping the .357 shot where it hit the .40 hole. Not too shabby to stop two bullets in nearly the same hole.

  • It didn't do so bad considering the thinness of it.

    ~ TH

  • Dude, that was sweet! I loved the up close slow-mo shots. This is the ONLY way to dispose of an expired Kevlar vest. Man, that 308 didn't even stop to say Hi, it just passed right through.

  • sweet vid brother, dig the intro/beginning

  • The difference between the .40 and the .45 is not all the surprising as the .40 has alot more velocity behind it. I would be interested to see what a .223 round did. High powered yes but not quite the .308

  • @westazoo

Exactly what I was thinking. Would have been cool to see how .223 5.56 would compare to the .308. I wonder if the vest would have stood a better chance if there had been a 2 liter bottle behind it to help absorb some of the impact like the others. I know Crocket said it wasn't scientific so no big deal, just wondering out loud.

Nice job Crocket. Hate you ruined your vest. Never know when you'll need one of those, but likely never. Be nice to have just in case.

  • pretty awesome your wife got you a 686 for xmas

  • Unscientific...but TOTALLY FREAKIN' COOL BRO!! Nice job!

  • @74Hobbes I should have made it scientific by using milk jugs ; )

  • Brother that was so kool!, thank you for shooting the crap out of ur old vest!, im very suprized that the .45 hardly made a dent yet the .40's left decent imprints... very interesting, i knew that .308 would just pass right on thru. Tell u what though brother, i wouldnt want to be hit by any of the pistol rnds they would still kick u on ur arse and hurt like a bugger, cheers Crocket best wishes and stay safe mate

  • @TheDishD I'm with you, I wouldn't want to be hit either. That whole time I was just thinking how that would feel. OUCH. It's funny in many movies how people just are barely affected after being shot repeatedly.

  • I love that your wife got you a 357 Magnum for Christmas, and a leatherman too :) Now there is a lady who knows how to buy gifts! BTW, that chuckle after each shot is hilarious, you were having way too much fun.

  • @AussieMark909 That was a lot of fun. Wonder why it took me so long. My wife does get me some good gifts...of course that's with some pretty pointed suggestions : )

  • Great stuff! A while ago some friends and I shot up a kevlar re-enforced Hummer door. My AK and AR burned holes right through it, but it easily stopped various handgun rounds. We had similar results with the .45 vs faster handgun chamberings. Less of a "ding". Thanks for showing- have a good one!

  • Cr0cket the ballistics guru : ) Just joking. What a fun video & it looks like you had a ball putting this one together.

I'm definitely no expert on ballistics, but for fun I was predicting the outcome of each test & each shot did as I had hoped.

As always I appreciate your honest approach & it was good to hear you reminding your viewers throughout that "your not trying to prove anything" on different calibers. Only that this was all for fun.

Well sir it looks like that was achieved!

  • @CampfireTalk Glad that came through (not trying to prove one caliber against another). I've got A LOT to learn when it comes to ballistics. Man this was a fun one to film. Really interesting to see how the bullets affected the kevlar.

  • Awesome Crocket, as always.

Glad you decided to "donate" the vest to the youtube world, lol

  • @JJGatesE30 My pleasure.

  • Cool Vid Cr0cket I'm not surprised at the effectiveness of the .357

  • @MrGhostwolf999 packin' a punch for sure. I wonder how that would affect the individual wearing the vest.

  • awesome! ive always wanted to try this myself. i wish you would have tested a .223/5.56 round as well.

  • Way cool!

  • Great video and a good looking .308 winchester.

  • I really like the two camera view. It just adds to the whole experience. At a gun shop they had a steel bell that was shot by various calibers. The .40 and 10 mm put a clean hole through it. The .45 put a huge dent in it. I've heard that the .40 is a great barrier penetrator and the .45 is devastating on flesh. Who knows though. Great vid my friend. It was fun and interesting.

  • @SnowLobo95 Glad you liked it. It was a lot of fun to make. One of these days I'm going to make more time to understand the ballistic side of things.

  • It would have hurt alot more without the vest :)

  • great vid crocket

  • Very interesting. A friend once told me that being shot while wearing armour could result in a heart attack or collapsed lung but not sure what kind of armour or bullets he was refering to. After seeing the impact on that kevlar I can understand how it could possibly end fatally even if the bullet didn't penetrate.

  • Good data points! I see brotherskeepers111 vid is also included which was another set of good data points. I want to see a test of someone wrap and secure a watermelon with the vest so the impact (and hopefully not penetration) is shown. Thanks for posting!

  • @ArmedVegan Great idea. Still have the back side of the kevlar.

  • obviously it would still hurt like crazy but do you think the impact would be great enough to brake a rib or cause internal injury to the extent that it would be fatal? I also love the older guns. There is just something about hunting with the same gun your dad and grand dad did that can't be explained.I use the same knife that my great granddad used for deer hunting even though I own somewhere around 100 others.

  • @basszack I'm right there with you about the passed down from generation stuff. Just something about it. I'm not an expert by any means, but I have heard of internal injuries from being shot while wearing a vest but never anything fatal.

  • @basszack depends on the grain of the bullet, the amount of powder load and of course the caliber of the round, but fatal injuries from blunt force trauma of the a bullet impact is extremely rare.

  • Good to see that old timer 308 out stretching its legs, interesting indeed seeing what those rounds do, fun to watch , wasn't expecting that kind of effect on the target with the rifle rounds amazing

  • @TNPviewer That 'ol .308 is a fun one to shoot. I need to take it out more. Just hard to drop the cash on the ammo sometimes.

  • Awesome.

  • @flashlightfreak9 I knew the .308 would go through, but I wondered what it would do. Man it just tore right through it like it wasn't even there. Lot of fun to get out and shoot the .308. Haven't shot it in a long time.

  • REALLY awesome vid Cr0cket!

  • Looks like the 357 really kicked some labomba. Sell your 45's before it's too late.

  • What a great way to spend the day in the desert!

  • It looks like anyone who wore the vest would be glad they had it but

still would be sent to the hospital if shot by the handgun rounds.

My SHTF rifle is a .308 and this video illustrates how dangerous

that round is to bystanders. Great video!

  • Are those certified CajunBlaze "werter bertles"?

  • Awesome!

  • Great great video.....and a greater excuse to up to some hard plates now :}

  • Nice vid!

  • Great video!

     I now have 3 .45's for sale.

  • @jetpowered1 lol, I hope you're joking.

  • excellent vid sir. Some interesting data points in this video.

  • That was awesome, thank you for doing that. Very interesting.

  • Fun video!

  • my dad had that same rifle befor he died. the police took it and destroyed it. :(

  • That was pretty cool. It is good to see it in a real life scenario, not just the manufactures videos of the bullets stopping.

  • Very cool video. Boy that looks like it'd hurt. Broken ribs for sure!

  • When you were working for the transport company, did you ever get attacked?

  • I think those .357's would have broke a rib and possibly a collar bone. That was fascinating to see the jacket fold up into itself. That .308 is still going, I think. Great gun to inherit, and in turn, give to your kids. That was fun! Thanks for brining us along, friend.

  • Great fun, thanks for sacrificing the vest so we all could see the comparison! I'm surprised it took a double hit and stopped both rounds!

  • @drzmanproject That surprised me too. I found it interesting that after the second hit there was visual damage to the vest on the backside but still stopped the bullet.

  • I used to work for AT systems (now Guarda) and had the same vest. It would be interesting if you'd get some Buffalo Bore 158Gr loaded to the original 1935 pressure limits and see if the vest could stop that the difference is another 200 FPS over the usual and pedestiran 1250 FPS of other loads. Then try the slower .357 ammo from the first test and fire it out of a 16"+ rifle like my Marlin 1894C!! That be cool to look at.

  • Great video man. Glad you used the water bottles to show what kind of force those bullets produce. That's why trauma plates are so important. I love that old rifle, I'd like to see some 100 yard groups with that. Thanks for sharing bro, stay safe.

  • @MrSteney I have some plans with that rifle in the future. It really is a great firearm. Very smooth bolt action.

  • Great Job, Sir.

  • Great video. Thanks for sharing. :)

  • Dude that was great.... it's comforting to see that an expired vest still works good because I have a level 3 "expired" German vest. Dragon skin is the stuff and the last time I checked it was like 5 grand for one lol.... have Nutn hock it up man lol.

  • awesome vid man! just plain awesome!

  • Wicked Job Crocket !!

    Looked really fun.

  • Awesome video man!! that .40 is a great round!!
