It mentions Glenn as playing trombone. Also, Abercrombie used the guitar when I saw the band in the US. So, they use the same guitar or Holdsworth borrowed Abercrombie's.
Notice that Abercrombie is playing Holdsworth's SG (at least, I assume it's Allan's and not John's). Soft Machine played this festival, and there are lots of vids of their set here on Youtube that show Holdsworth also using this guitar.
What a drumfill on 0,36, Cobham is the monster on single strokes... I meet him at munich in ´75 after his performance during the Crosswinds tour... We talked about everythin´ on drums and drummer... I was very impressioned about his personality, no one critic about other drummers, such a nice and sympathic guy, and a real pro.
Abercrombie is playing the same guitar that Alan Holdsworth plays with Soft Machine at Montreaux. It must the same year and they were both there. The guitar has stickers on it. Same instrument.
luv this era of fusion! Cobham was my all time favorite years. Such an exciting and explosive player, lots of surprise attack high speed and a tight, super funky groove player!! He's one of the GREATS!!!!
Ferris played 'bone solos like this with Don Ellis. He was billed as an enfant terrible back in the day ... more like just terrible. At the same time, I've heard much worse.
@jeremyjgray The problem is that when a rhythm section smokes like this one, you can play just about anything and get away with it. Still, it works better when you have a soloist as great as Mike Brecker floating over the top.
@Nicar526 That's the quickest broken stick recovery I've ever seen!!!! Just one more element that makes Billy the MAN!!!!! What a great solo and groove and everything else!!!!
@modir91 When I did see him during this period-he had a box of Promark 707 Ed Shaughnessy drumsticks opened on one end standing up beside him all unwrapped. He would snap one, reach down and grab another almost faster than the eye could see. At the end of the show-there were dead drum sticks all over the stage-think he went thru the whole box...
This IS NOT Taurian Matador. This is Billy Cobham's classic Crosswinds. It most definitely is Montreux Jazz Festiva; and I have not seenthis before so thank you for posting it.

Abercrombi, arguably one of the greatest of all time, was spot on when he played with Cobham. His prime!

he came from that big band sound from group Dreams.
Abercrombie is one of my all time favorites. check out Gateway, the group and especially the Epic Jan Hammer and DeJohnette, Timeless. all time!!!!!!!
