  • Too much beer, i think!

  • I dont get it.

Why doesn't the other guy use his left arm?

I mean.. wouldn't it be a natural reaction to hit the instructor in the face if he grabs one of your arms?

  • @969Username He's doing it slowly for you to see the technique. If he did the move in a half-second, you wouldn't be able to react as you would try focused on yourself falling.

  • How many times does he say 'technique' at the start?

  • do disrespect... but LMAO. i would like to see him do that in a real fight. Popcorn at the ready

  • @scottith1 well yeah it would be pretty difficult to do that in a real fight, but if somebody gives u a jab and u grab it if u do it quick enough U just "Might" be able to pull it off, lol xD

  • this is for begginers, not a demonstration,

anyways it would be helpful if you could make a longer clip and put more details, does Sensei Ronald slide his hands to his opponents wrist?

  • Ok, it's not really good but I think his movements are not as bad as most of you say.

  • My guess would be none.

  • This here is a horrible way to do me.

  • dang you're fat!how do you do martial arts!no offence

  • what's that shit???????

  • nice lock i didnt know that b4

  • lol - in think there is no "attack" in aikido likes this :D !

He did a bad job. Do not controle the uke in the rigth way and don't brake his balance as good as he schould. Additional he stand to far away from uke.

I'm very sad about, that we are not able to find a real good shiho nage video on youtube. I think i gonne to post one ;) !

(Sry grammatical errors - a german was writing ;) )

  • Exactly !!

Also no lowering of center...AIKIDO is not valet !! we must lower our center...

  • O sensei is probably rolling in his grave at this butchering of his 'twenty year' technique.

    It was a cracking good demo of how not to do shihonage;

Upon receiving uke's attack (if you can call it that)you stepped straight into the 'inside' where in reality uke would introduce his left fist to your face!

2)After uke's attack, there was a great deal of movement on your behalf while allowing uke to stand on posture. At no time throughout the entire technique was uke taken off balance.

  • thi stinks;

for example: when he (sensei) hold uke's hand above his hand, if uke has a little bit of brain uke would pull his hand, and then sensei would become uke :)

think about that before you give a grade to comments

P.S. it is only one example, I am beginner and I saw 3 mistakes

  • ohhhhh yeahhhh!!

  • I thought it was common knowledge this guy doesnt have a clue what he is doing, and really shouldn't be yudansha no matter what tradition he follows.

  • as you say.. beginners :) you know beginners start very slowly, and ofcourse he is slow... look at his tummy -.-

  • thers someting coming out of your mouth... its bullshit

  • what is this????this is a bullschit!!!!!

  • He is trying to show the technique at slow speed people -.-

He's wearing the blue pants (don't know the name anymore) so he's probably good

  • The pants are called Hakama, and means that he has a grade at least about 3rd kyu, this differs from different styles though, in some clubs you can't wear them until you have a black belt grade.

He performs this technique very badly actually, you have to have your hands in front of you the whole time, uke could have pulled him backwards very easy.

Even though this is not an "Aikido Move for beginners", he should been able to perform a lot better with a black belt, maybe he just borrowed it...

  • Ok, that would fail a 6th kyu grading.

  • LAME !

  • I have NEVER posted a negative comment about another aikido-ka's aikido before...until I watched these "Expert Village" demos. 1st: you WILL NOT learn an aiki technique from video. 2nd: Unless this guy is much better in person you WILL NOT learn an aikido technique from him. Come on, people. We catch enough flak from non-aikido-ka without stuff like this on the net.

  • all these aikido videos from "expertvillage" are very embarrassing for the fine art of aikido. This is aikido at its worst (ineffective, not applicable, rigid technique, no attack).

  • There are many ways of doing me, but this guy puts himself within the rich of nage's left arm. That's a no-no for a blackbelt.

Oh and the uke should deliver an attack. That's the whole point of being the uke. There's no attack in the video, what is he trying to do, correct nage's hair ?

  • haha i just realized your screenname is the same as the technique hes showing =]

  • @shihonage So true LOL, I thought Aikido was about stepping OUT of the line of attack not TWISTING yourself out and risking that instant of a possible attempt of an attack.

  • i'm yellow belt and i can in all honesty do that technique more effectively

  • How embarrassing, and a black belt too...

  • I know exactly what school he's from. And its a total embarrassment to Tomiki. Go watch Tetsuro Nariyama shihan for good tomiki.

  • in this particular technique the instractor only showing the basic move how to apply the shihonage.this tecnique is verry effective spcially when your opponent strike you in a overhead attack.

  • u know what. Shihonage IS a very effective technique, however i dislike this example, during the course of the move the uke is hardly taken off center balance...the way im taught, as you bring their arm through your center you raise their elbow with yours to keep tension and take them off center.

  • I agree, their is no off-balance, atemi, hakko zemi, or happo no kuzushi...I wonder what style of Aikido this is?

  • This is an authentic technique. When done properly, it works. This guy should have used an overhead strike with more intensity. 99% of the time Shiho Nage is is done against an overhead strike. I've been a cop for 14 years and have had to use shihonage several times. It does work.

  • Armchair experts...how quaint.

  • abso-freakin-lutely. One of the qualities I've noted in true martial arts masters (of whatever style) is HUMILITY. As in, not running others down, and in the process boosting themselves up.

  • good technique just one thing i dont agree with is the training method demonstration...when the partner comes at him with his arm noone is going to keep their arm straight like that i dont knw if that was a push or shove but in a real situation that kind of push or shove would get u no where and it looks stupid...what im saying is training methods should be as realistic as possible

  • Its zombie self defense, for when the undead attack... or the very arthritic
