thank u so much for replying.since i developed some health problem i started having w'grass juice.but from the time i started having this i am constipation.& bit of gastric problem.if u can advice on this i'll be gr8 full.
Good video. I liked your way of making it and would like to learn a trick or two from you.
But just for the benefits of viewers of this video i want to ask you that it mentioned so many places that home mixer and blender rotates at approx. 1500 rpm and at that speed Wheatgrass cellular structure is destroyed and it oxidizes it nutrients rendering them use less for us.
So is it not advisable to use below 80 rpm wheatgrass juicer or manual wheatgrass juicers??
Hi, I'm growing my first batch of wheatgrass and I'm using potting soil used for houseplants and container plants. Will this wheatgrass be edible since I used this soil? Also, I noticed that the wheat grass has a odor, is that normal? My wheat grass is growing rapidly now, I've had it covered so far. When do we uncover the wheat grass? Thank you
@LIFEWORSHIP Oh yes, we've used regular potting soil quite often without problems. I take the top off when the grass gets nice & green. It should smell earthy & grassy. If yours smells off, look near the bottom of the stem and make sure you haven't gotten mold. If you have mold and if it's young enough, you might be able to kill it by setting the grass in sunlight without the top on for a day or two. Cheers!
@steeljan Thanks for the response. Also My grass is growing extremely fast but is yet to get much green color. Should I wait for the dark green color before eating despite the height or can I eat night? It;s about 6 inches
@LIFEWORSHIP It should have gotten green long before 6" -- did you let it get indirect sunlight as it was growing? And now, at 6", it should be fine in full sun. But you will probably have to ease it into the sun if it's not had enough so far.
I guess by now you have already thrown it out or used it by now.
But now on remember that potting soil is for making potting plant or decorative plants grow better and it contains chemical fertilizers and may be pesticides which will go in Wheatgrass and make it unfit for our consumption.
I think I'll try this til I get a wheatgrass juicer. Found out the hard way last night that you can't use a regular juicer. I never thought of using the French press. Great idea since we already have one of those :) Great video, Jan!
@hollykarlsen We originally used a strainer and that was so messy, so yes, the french press is so much easier for separating the pulp from the juice. Thanks!
Yet to venture into wheatgrass, recently got a juicer, though not suitable for grass.. Daily intake of Apple Cider Vinegar/Honey has transformed my life.. Can't wait to get the grass in effect!!
@KILLBILDERBURG Oooh, I'll have to try that apple cider vinegar & honey. How much per day? Yep, we love our daily wheatgrass drink, for us it's the perfect breakfast. Thanks!
@MichaelBoryAlis It keeps growing back and we keep snipping it for a week or so, then the plants get root-bound. Don't know if the nutrition value is always the same, but it sure tastes the same. Thanks for watching.
WOW! Didn't you know... you're NOT suppose to mix fruit with veggies or greens! The only thing you can mix is apple or lemon or Asian pears. The oils in the fruit are much different than the oils in greens or veggies. That becomes heard for the body to digest!
@RonnyOnBass Been doing it this way for years. I'll do some research about this, do you have a link I could read? If so, send it to me in a personal message. Thanks!
not sure if your pan is aluminum, but that may not be the best tray to hold soil for such a powerful detoxifying plant like wheatgrass. possible risk of aluminum leaching into the soil and uptake by the plant roots... but i like your blending and straining method. great alternative
@okorolina Thank you okorolina, I never thought of that about the aluminum pan, yes, it's aluminum. I do line it with food grade plastic wrap with drainage holes poked through, lol, probably creating a whole other set of problems. Oh, I just now read your youtube profile, wow, how cool - raw food chef & herbalist, etc. Thank you for stopping by and commenting on my video. BTW, what is your take on e-cigarettes? Cheers!
@steeljan - interesting question - my hubby is an actor and uses e-cigs in some of his performance pieces... I am a bit leery of the formulation, because there is really no ingredient list that I can see, but I tried it (never smoked in my life!) and it left me with a strange sensation in my chest. I am sensitive to chemicals, so it would be no-no for me, but compared to nicotine I can say its probably better.
@steeljan An actor?- wow! So you'll know, the ingredients in e-liquid are food grad propylene glycol, food grade vegetable glycerin, flavorings (LorAnn's is a popular flavoring manufacturer used, just their non-oil based ones), and for folks who are nicotine-addicted the e-liquids they buy also contain various strengths of pure liquid nicotine. Some folks are sensitive to propylene glycol, so they only buy e-liquids containing vegetable glycerin. Thanks again.
I really really liked your idea of using the French press instead of a strainer or nut bag. Pure Genius!!! Yours looked awesome. I'm going to get one today and use my old but trusty 3600 vitamix blender. Thank you for sharing. Fabulous video. :>)

@mzroz912 You're quite welcome. We were shopping for a wheatgrass juicer but have now decided we like doing it this way just fine. So until the blender breaks, we're going to stick with it. Cheers!
The first time I had wheat grass juice from the local earth mama store i thought that it tasted like liquid lawn. Then I thought that's what it would taste like if I licked the bottom of my lawn mower...minus the gasoline and dirt and stuff :)
Oh, I didn't know there were beneficial enzymes in wheatgrass, I may have to try it. I drink a lot of Kefir so I think I could stomach a little Moo Fuel. Herb beers are awsome. They are referred to as Gruit (GREW-it) ales. Very ancient in origin. The best I have had was a sage/star anise ale. For 4 gal it is 4 lbs Pale LME, 2 lbs Demerara suger. 4 oz of fresh sage, 1 oz of whole star anise and any ale yeast. 30 minute boil with 2 oz of sage and the Anise, rest of sage goes into the primary.
@hoppinglion01 Gee, dunno. It smells and tastes just like a freshly mown lawn. But the reason folks juice and drink the wheatgrass right away is because as soon as it's juiced, the enzymes start to break down. I've read that most of the nutrient value is gone within an hour. Interesting, herb beers - what do those taste like?
@HokieHomeBrew Yeah, I thought I'd put this up here 'cause anyone curious about wheatgrass could try this without dropping a bunch of money on a juicer. Cheers!
I was gonna say I don't think I could drink that green stuff...but then you added the bananas and I thought, maybe I could choke that down....I know the stuff is supposed to be good for ya...but there's just something about green beverages!!! LOL
@usagold101 Thanks! I know you're joking, but ya know what -- if you don't use toxic fertilizers on your lawn, you could definitely drink your lawn grass. Every blade is a powerhouse of energy and nutrients. Hope you have a great day!!

Your grass is not getting dark green color as it might be devoid of sun light.
Put it in indirect sunlight in last 3 - 4 days to get the dark green color. It will also help to put in energy of sun in your wheatgrass.

Go for certified organic soil and fertilizers.

what is the quantity of grass should be taken for making 1/4 glass wheat grass juice
cudupa60 2 months ago
Go by weight.
It takes 30 to 40 gm of fresh wheatgrass to make on shot of wheatgrass per person if you take it for general health.
If you been advised to take it for some other health condition , you can take it 3 to 4 time a day or as advice by your doctor.
ceoadwg 3 weeks ago
you should just use plain water.
