  • don't get why everyone is so psyched about Devin in this one , i think this one is more Akerfeldt's time in the spotlight of the album.

  • Ayreon Are The Best Forever!!!

  • Ohmahgawd Rage. I almost pissed meself. o.o

  • Ayreon + Devin Townsend = Win!

  • The best thing about Ayreon is there's always a surprise, like at 2:02, it just changes completely. The whole album is filled with great surprises.

  • @SpriteBat thats why its called progressive metal

  • This = my school years

    i felt like all the dudes in the higher grades hated me ;n;

  • This very much reminds me of my nine years.

  • the best thing is that this song actually makes sense...

  • I get chills everytime. It saddens and frustrates me that it's like this. Pressure and ignorance.

  • lol... all the devin townsend and james labrie fanboys... focussed on their idols instead of this magnificently layered composition. This song contains so much power!

  • it's like a weird orgasm

  • Devin Townsend!

  • Holy crap. Haven't listened to this in a while and forgot about Rage. <3

  • The whole thing is a masterpiece, but i keep replay the first part cause of Mikael Akerfeldt's voice.

  • Townsend + LaBrie + Akerfeldt in one song = wellwhatthefucksweetjesusitsjustperfect.

  • BEAUTIFUL. my headphone blew out at the part where Rage is doing his thing at the end there. i almost cried. Devin Townsend and James LaBrie in the same song. Ohh lord. it's orgasmic.

  • Love this song!!! :D

  • Is it a poor refelction on me to want more 'Rage' on this Album? Of which i have only recently discovered thanks to (Hevy)Devy.

  • @CyanideSovereign Not really. Rage is my favorite character. I can't help but think that if I was in this sort of coma, Rage would feature quite prominently, along with Pride and Reason.

  • I could listen to the "Be a man, give into hate. You better learn to communicate." part over and over and over. love it :DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD

    DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD

  • @HerrUhyre I'm totally obsessed with that part too! Also the instrumental part from 2:15 to 2:28. :)

  • Rage sounds completely awesome because he's none other than Devin Townsend

Devin Townsend and James LaBrie is just an incredible concept.

  • wow Devin Townsend does rage so well, I stumbled on this album on a random forum on prog metal, best discovery ever. I already loved all of devin townsends work and dream theater and just got into Opeth so this album is perfection for me.

  • Reason's voice is sex

  • Probably the best track on this CD, IMO that is.

  • Holy shit. I was deffinitely not expecting that at 0:40

    Pleasant suprise though.

  • The change between Rage and the the other emotions gets me every time. So amazing.

  • I think I turned into Jesus after listening to this. : ' |

  • Pride is the best!!!!!!! sounds fucking awesome!

  • 2:15 - 3:22

    epic

  • @ShesInnParties

    0:00 - 4:25 EPIC :P

  • @TheFlyingMonkey666

    lol true.

  • @TheFlyingMonkey666 I'm going to use this as replay button. Thanks ;)

  • Labrie always Dream theater for life!

  • Does anybody what character are doing evrey one: Akerfeldt, Townsend and LaBrie?

  • @travics77 Devin does RAGE

LaBrie : well, he does ME

    Akerfeldt : FEAR

  • Akerfeldt : FEAR

    LaBrie: ME

    Devin: RAGE

  • Favourite part 1:35 to 2:29. What can I say. LOL

  • Akerfeldt, Labrie and Townsend; fucking awesome!

  • i have nothin against devin here hell he is great, but i would have loved to see mikael akerfeldt's amazing death metal voice utilized

  • Who does Pride?? Hes amazing!!

  • i got nothing against rage here but mikael akerfeldt (the voice of fear) could have done a much more rage full voice

  • hmmm no. Devin did a great job. Everyone on this record except the father was perfect.

  • Lucassen put together a godly lineup of guests for this album. Awesome.

  • any metalsingers in here who have any idea of which vocal technique devin townsend uses in the second half of the choroses when he sings it an octave above the first half? sounds impossible! all in all he does some of the most insane screams i´ d ever heard on this record, in the end of loser! INSANE!

  • actually, it's basically a well high pitched scream, theres not a especific technique to scream like that ;s

  • I LOVE the way they did rage here, but when it first comes in, in all three parts, it hits you with a big burst of loud and quickly quiets down a bit. It kinda makes the song seem nonlinear.

  • This doesn't happen on the album. I think it's only in this recording, or whatever was used to post the song on Youtube. Perhaps there's some sort of volume threshold when inputting.

  • @NyrockXZX It might be because Devin wrote and recorded his own stuff because that was the only he'd do it.

Either that, or Arjen Lucassen is the fucking master and can do whatever the fuck he wants because everything he does is win.

  • @krisdaschwab912 I can confirm that Arjen is the fucking master of badass musicianship and can do whatever he wants.

  • Great song

  • It's time to leave your sheltered cage

    Face you deepest fears

    The world is against you

    You're fighting back the tears

    I (L) AKERFELDT

  • I love the combination of all the voices. Progressive metal opera FTW! HULDE ARJEN!

  • Rage sounds feaking awesome

  • @Dictator93 Devin Townsend ...god.

  • @Dictator93 its Devin Townsends voice dam i love his songs

  • @Dictator93 Gotta love Devin Townsend :D

  • @Dictator93 No Fucking Duh!!!! ITS DEVIN TOWNSEND!!!!!!

  • My favourite vocalist on the album was passion. Quite suprising as i dont usually listen to female vocalists in metal.

  • so you probbly dont like night wish

  • Lucassen chose definetly the best Voices for all

  • Pride has my favorite voice, next to Devin. It's too bad their isn't much Rage.

  • i like prides voice :)

  • I play this song everyday when driving my little brother to school XD. We both love this song =D

  • Mikael y Labrie son vocalistas asombrosos :D

  • James LaBrie sounds excellent as Me.

  • Yeah, agreed.

I love The Human Equation :)

  • @Silfaryia

    true that

  • @Silfaryia is a god!! bah!

  • is a god!! bah!

  • @Silfaryia Yeah, it fits well in the role. Too bad that now in DT they sings voice parts very odd for his standards, not cut on him.

  • Would've had a better effect at the end, if they'd taken out the final part of Rage.

  • Hmm, I'd have to disagree, since after he says how he basically turned into those he swore to get back at. It would make sense for Rage to repeat his chorus. Since it is really at that point where the lines are most appropriate, up until that point they were merely a precursor, in that point they show what it was foreshadowing.

  • Oh, I totally understand where you're coming from. I more meant to say... I don't like how Rage sounds. But you're right.

  • I personally love Rage. I guess its something you have to get used to. Devin Townsend is one of my favorite vocalist, but when I first heard him I couldn't really appreciate him either.

  • I usually hate screaming vocals like him (and don't really like Strapping Young Lad), but I think he is implemented VERY well in this album! I love everything he does here, especially his "NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER" at the end of Loser.

  • I agree, I have never really been a fan of screaming as well. But at least in this album you are able to appreciate it and even understand what they say. It's awesome.

  • I think you're both right.

From a musical point of view, I think the song would have sounded better without the last Rage chorus.

But from a story/plot point of view, I think it was necessary. So I'm not sure.

  • i think we can place the last rage chorus like the end of the thinking about what to do.. like if he just win this thought.... just my opinion and sorry for my non-perfect english it is not my first language.

have a nice day to you every ayreon fan on this planet blue

  • Beautifull...

  • Whoops... I'm in advanced language

  • at 2 mins to 2:30 is awsome

  • I think reason says the truth. :) But I like every emotion, in the end (day 20) i liked agony too.

  • who sings the pride part?

  • Magnus Ekwall

  • dude, pride is always right :p

  • [Rage] part is great.

  • Very long and variated lyrics to a 4 minutes song... Awsome song *_*

  • greatness

  • akerfeldt as fear :X...great song...
