  • Everyone who is saying that she faking it or chips aren't a good choice shut the fuck up and read about it what she did was save her life. Chips are high in CARBS which raises the blood sugar. I know this i have been a diabetic for three years. So ill say again learn about before saying she was faking or something.

  • As much I like to side against corporations and zero tolerance rules in general, here's the thing: When a diabetic has low blood sugar, they need something sugary. Ideally they should get a snack with sugar alongside a complex carbohydrate and a small amount of protein. Potato chips are complex carbohydrates and fat. Assuming (as a diabetic) that she is informed of this, her choice doesn't reflect the medical crisis she purports. She would have chosen something sugary.

  • @Snakepliskinist First off carbs are the single that helps the most. A bag of chips can save a diabetics life trust me i know i have been one for three years. Not only that when your sugars are low you dont give a fuck you know what you need. If she was strong enough she should have grabed a soda. Like i said though you dont care if thats whats in reach thats what you chose. Like i said i have been one for three years i have massive low and highs she did what she needed too.

  • I'm diabetic and have never taken a bag of chips without paying for them even when I experiencing low blood sugar. I would have still fired her.

  • Since when do chips have sugar in them?

  • would have fired her .. anyone can "have a diabetic attack" and have free chips

  • @xStockxLossx Idiot youve never had one when it happens you you know you dont fake that at all. i have been one for three years i know hat im talking about.

  • As a manager and a diabetic at Walgreens I would have fired her too.

  • @grendelroy and if she had died on your watch what then?

  • it isnt even stealing until you leave the store anyway

  • I'm surprised she didn't have her own chips or candy in a private stash.

  • I don't see how they could fire her for theft if the company at accepted payment for the product before the employee was accused of having stolen them.

  • Also I wonder why she choose a bag of chips, as the best thing to eat with low blood sugar is either a liquid or soft candy.

  • @Toastishott I guess it depends on her type of diabetes, how long she's had it, and the extent of it's progression. My son is a type 1 diabetic. That being said, if he ingests something TOO High in carbs or sugars (carbs impact the glucose level equal to sugar, and sugar is a carb), it will cause his blood to go from a dip to a spike, which also isnt good. Chips still have carbs, but not as much as candy. If she has low tolerance for carbs/sugar, then chips may be better, maybe?

  • I have type 1 diabetes, so I know what this women was going through. If you have low blood sugar it is not called a "diabetes attack" You get shaky hands and sometimes blurred vision and such, and it can proceed to a seizure/coma. I think this women probably could have waited and then bought the chips...But if she is a new diabetic, I could see that maybe she was panicking and that's why she ate them. I don't think she should have been fired though.

  • @Toastishott Oh, haha, sorry, I didnt read this post before I replied. I see you too are a type 1, so you already know the difference of the impact of carbs and sugar. My apologies. (as for her being a new diabetic, true.. Or she may be a worrisome sort as well. You know the type who go to the doctor for EVERYTHING.. but when you're diabetic, it's good to take very good care of yourself.)

  • That rule is inhumane.

  • wow... this woman is sooooo ignorant. I'm a diabetic and its called having a "low blood sugar" NOT A FUCKING DIABETES ATTACK. this makes me feel sad inside. learn your shit before you do this.. and plus... she could have waited for like 2 hours before she had a seizure and possibly could have died.. she is not in the wrong but they are complaining about the wrong thing... i have lost a big of respect for you "TheYoungTurks"

  • They only did it so they wouldn't have to pay her pension that she earned.

  • 18 years? And they're trying to say she was stealing a bag of chips????? Stupid asses..

  • @tytheeman20 it could have been 18 years of petty theft. I've worked with many people in the retail world who have worked decades in a store they hate and take advantage of at every opportunity.

  • @bunkmasterflex Don't respond to me with stupid shit. Do you not get her blood sugar was low? Who gives a fuck. She worked there for 18 years. Somebody didn't like her and was thinking of a way to get rid of her.

  • @tytheeman20 If her blood sugar was so low she didn't have time to pay for the food, then clearly she needed a dose of simple sugars fast. Not complex carbohydrates in potato chips.

  • @bunkmasterflex Who gives a fuck? She thought the chips would help.

  • @tytheeman20 So buy them.

  • @bunkmasterflex She didn't get a chance to dumbass! Do you listen?...

  • @tytheeman20 No you fucking clown. She already opened them she could have payed for them prior to opening them they make no comment about whether or not that was possible. Lay of the fucking pipe you crackhead. Do you think they we're watching her on the camera just so they could wrongfully accuse her of theft and then fire her. Do you realize they could just make up anything and fire her. Or is it more likely the security guard suspected she was doing this as a pattern and acted according.

  • @bunkmasterflex Who are you calling a clown bitch? You must not live in reality or have any type of common sense. What the fuck does she need to steal bag of chips for after 18 years? Have you not experienced someone having a negative attitude towards you at your job? Get some fucking life experience. Her management could've had a grudge towards her for some dumb reason. Maybe she was a bitch & nobody liked her. That's a motive to do it. It's fucking Walgreens not a bank. She was paying for it.

  • @tytheeman20 many people steal from their jobs and they justify by their feelings of being taken advantage of at work. Stringing 30 insults together isn't a point. why is it much more likely to you that someone would destory another persons life for personal gain, But the same people wouldn't ever steal a bag of chips from work. Yah that's a real strong philosophy founded in logic. We caught a cashier who'd worked for zellers for 30 years stealing rolls of coins and chocolate.

  • @tytheeman20 People don't care about other people enough to go on childish vendetta's, one day you'll realize that adults in the world don't act like you and your sibblings.

  • @tytheeman20 I hate big companies too but you do realize the person who made this decision was a middle management person who personally gains nothing from wrongfully accusing innocent and hard working non- suspicious employee's of theft. He goes home at the end of the day to a life like your's and mine not the legion of doom you clown. Or do you think lord walgreens fired her for entertainment?

  • @bunkmasterflex lol potato chips that are made out of white potatoes are complex carbohydrates? where do you find information like this?

  • @darkknight302 haha

  • This is bullshit Potato chips are the least advisable way for her to raise her sugar levels in an at-risk situation. A diabetic needs a load of sugar in a non-coplex carbohydrate for when they're blood sugar is low. Juice or a candy bar would have been the desired choice. Potato chips sounds like an excuse to get away with theft. Which is just sad using her illness as an excuse to steal.

  • Walgreens is bullshit. Seriously, they have so many cases against them from previous employers.

  • @SStrongIsNeverWrong This one they're in the right.

  • Comment removed

  • OR... she was just using her diabetes as an excuse to eat chips.. when in fact she wasn't in any danger at the time. You have no facts only speculation.. typical young turks bullshit story.

  • @mobspeak

They have the facts available based on the lawsuit information. Maybe she wasn't in any danger; chances are she was. Either way, this still does not meet the definition of "theft" or "shoplifting". If this is your definition of "speculative" I wonder what your definition of "substantiated" is.

  • @TheIntelexual Well it isn't my job, nor is it the job of "The Young Turks" to judge this case, it's up to the judge to do all that.

  • @mobspeak

Wrong again. The Young Turks are simply reporting the story, not judging it. Also, it's not up to the judge, it's up to a jury.

    Law 101

  • @TheIntelexual Obviously you are an unintelligent ignoramus, anyone with a 4th grade education can tell you that there are two sides to every case. The case hasn't even been to court yet, therefore it hasn't been litigated yet, the case therefore could be either for the plaintiff or defendant. It's clear in this Young Turks piece of so called "journalism" who's side they are on. Very biased, it would be embarrassing if it turns out she was stealing, and using her disease as an excuse.

  • @TheIntelexual other than cases in which the judge is the deciding factor. Like a lawsuit. This could be false I wouldn't know being canadian, but lawsuits do not go to a jury do they? They don't in Canada.

  • chips to make your SUGAR HIGHER??? there aint much sugar in chips guys thre is mostly oil and salt i wouda grab a candy bar but yeah i agree corporations are fucking dicks i feel sorry for the lady i hope she wins the case

  • @17marcino

As a biology major, I can tell you that your comment displays your ignorance in a public forum. Most "chips" are made of potatoes and potatoes are loaded with starch and fiber, both of which are carbohydrates. Complex carbohydrates are broken down into simple carbohydrates or "saccharides" such as glucose through digestive and metabolic processes. Glucose is a sugar.

    Biochemistry 101

  • @17marcino

There is a lot of starch in potatoes, and starches are just a large complex chain of simple sugars.

  • @cowpacino Still sugars would be advisable. they give you a glucose injection to save a diabetic's life not a load of starch's. While you are technically correct, siple sugars are advised to raise a diabetics blood sugar. Not an order of potatoes. This sounds like a trick to steal food and an excuse to go with it. As well if she's arguing that it was too urgent too pay first, clearly she needed sugar not starch for the instant effect. She's lieing.

  • @bunkmasterflex

I don't think you understand, starch IS sugar

A bag of chips will spike your blood sugar just as well as a candy bar, It's exactly the same thing it's just not sweet.

  • @cowpacino It just takes longer for it to be broken down and absolved into the blood. If you put a spoonful of sugar under your tongue it will be absorbed into the blood. Starch will not because it is a carbohydrate and needs to be converted into sugar.

  • @bunkmasterflex

What we consider sugar is a disaccharide of glucose and fructose, which also needs to be broken down. If it was a bowl of oatmeal, it would be one thing, but the glycemic index for potato chips is almost identical to the GI for a snickers bar

    h t t p : / / w w w dot health.harvard.edu/newsweek/Glycemic_index_and_glycemic_load_for_100_foods.htm

  • Respond to this video... To be blunt starch isn't sugar that's why it's starch.

  • @bunkmasterflex

to be blunt, you have no idea what the fuck you're talking about

  • @cowpacino Explain if it was an urgent situation clearly glucose was required, or simple sugars as the next best thingt. If it wasn't urgent and she had the time to wait for complex carbohydrates to be digested and turned into sugars, then clearly she has the time to pay for the potato chips. What about that is incorrect?

  • @bunkmasterflex

I'm not arguing that point, I've worked in retail and they are extremely specific on the rules about eating shit before you pay for it. She knew she could get in trouble if she ate them before she paid for them and she did.

you said "starch isn't sugar, that's why it's starch" which is wrong.

  • @cowpacino So starch and sugar are identical on a scientific level is what your saying. Or is starch converted into simple sugars by the liver with due time. Which is why starch isn't sugar it's starch. I hate to be technical but is that not right? Are they not two different things on a molecular level?

  • @bunkmasterflex

everything that you eat is broken down into 3 groups, Fats, proteins, and carbs. All carbohydrates are, are long chains of sugars. Whenever you eat carbs, you're eating sugar. Saying that starch isn't sugar is like saying that bacon isn't protein.

  • @cowpacino

Actually, on second though, a better comparison would be to saying starch isn't sugars because the body has to break down it down first is to say that bacon isn't amino acids because the body has to break down the protein first

  • I hope she wins!

  • i dont agree with the video, walgreen doesnt owe her shit. she gets paid for her job. i do disagree with being fired however, the women should have just work somewhere else -.-

  • This is more of proof what my friends who work part-time in Wal-Mart said is true. The longer you work in stores like these, employers will try to find any little reason to get you fired no matter how hard you work there.

  • Opening a bag of chips before you pay for it is against the law. She might have been willing to pay, but there's no guarantee. Her health is not Wal-Mart's responsibility. I don't agree with her being fired at all, but I completely disagree with this frivolous and greedy lawsuit.

  • @pissed7off Thats conflicting. I don't see how you can back both positions. Or disagree with both. I can say this though, I've been in this woman's position and I'd rather eat and live rather than pass out and die.

  • @danielcontoro I'm not really siding with either party.

Firing her over this was a little anal (considering the situation), but that lawsuit is ridiculous, even if Wal-Mart is evil. They were within their rights to fire her (despite the poor display of judgement).

  • @pissed7off walgreens?

  • @coolxDoO Yeah, that's what I mean

  • Wow, o hope she gets paid big time!! I'm diabetic too and I refuse to get fired over me trying to save my life smh

  • Ridiculous fucking story.

  • @EliteDoomer Ridiculous why? Seems like an outrage to me.

  • Maybe Walgreen’s had a "dead peasant policy" (life insurance that pays your *employer* if you die) on her and that’s why they were so mad she survived.

  • fuck walgreens, i go to cvs anyway ;)

  • Boycotting Walgreens........ now. Not that I ever really shopped there in the first place lmfao

  • For the first time in my life, I feel clever, and more importantly, I understand it.

  • This is pure bull. 18 years? Wow.

I agree... There isn't any human compassion anymore. Compassion has been gone for quite some time, and the machines are taking over

  • fuck tipping and fuck tipping nazi's

  • This is why zero-policy rules are stupid and don't work.

  • Ironic that Walgreens supports health and wellness... and I definitely agree with Metalman - boycott them.

  • Oh, those dasterdly "giant corporations".

Get back to me after the final verdit comes down from EEOC.

    Otherwise, it's a non-story.

  • Walgreens is a pharmacy. They stock glucose tablets, and I'm sure they also have orange juice and soda, and hard candy. All of these will raise blood sugar quickly. Not potato chips. Makes you wonder if there's more to the story.

  • @teddyandtoki she paid for it before leaving. have you never eaten somethin in the supermarket and THEN paid for it? i have, and people dont give a SHIT. as long as idont walk out of the store, its fine;

  • The brainwash dullards who usually fall for the fat stories now seem to be sympathetic to a fat women who eats unhealthy food and is suffering from diabetes. If TYT was using this for one of their many fat stories they would wait for Cenk and see what his party line was. If it was about heath care cost they would let the fat lady have it full blast. On cue we would be reading post like "fuck that fat ass she should take better care of herself because I'm tired of paying for her fat ass etc...

  • The assumption you libs are making is that the worker who got fired was actually having a diabetic attack. For all we know she's using her illness as an excuse for eating the chips, perhaps she was never intending to pay for the chips unless she got caught and employees stealing stuff is a problem at Walgreen's.

  • That commercial with the guy talking to the dog is really wierd. He's a bit of a creeper.

  • By this logic, a customer who opens a product before purchasing it, should also be charged with theft.

I kind of doubt she was fired just over this alone. Management has probably been building a case against her for a while and this gave them an opportunity to get rid of her. Such is not uncommon in retail unfortunately.

On the flip side though, this woman really should have bought a snack or drink beforehand to have ready in case of an attack. All of this could have been easily avoided.

  • i don't think they fired her for stealing. i'm guessing that after 18 yrs she made a lot more than they'll pay the stupid kid they will hire to replace her. sounds like an excuse to me.

  • I hope she gets a million dollars and gets a bunch of plastic surgery and goes on a real housewives show and has 50 best selling cook books and lives happily ever after. New american dream.

  • She didn't leave the store without paying -- usually that is the determining factor for theft.

  • @1Serval Consuming a product before paying for it is also theft.

  • @1Serval Except for people who spend that long in the store. She could in an 8 hour shift hide the garbage anywhere in the store. And they can't survey her for 8 hours to see she didn't dispose of the packaging. So just pay first when you're at work it's perfectly logical. As well refer to other posts i've written which explain why diabetes was used as an excuse.

  • Wagreens should be sued.

  • Here is the reason for zero tolerance. If you fire a person for stealing or whatever you must then fire everybody for that same offense. A person can be a fucking bum and get caught stealing from the company. The bum gets fired. The next week a woman steals a bag of chips. If the woman is not fired the bum screams discrimination and gets a lawyer. The only people that do well in both cases are fucking lawyers. There are some good lawyers but it seems most of them are fucking evil scumbags.

  • @xxdonaldqxxx THE "BUM" ISN'T DIABETIC! DUMB-DUMB!

  • @Alzdr A diabetic is not capable of being a bum? Since when? Sorry moron but bums and slugs come in all flavors. Being a diabetic could be used by a bum and a slob as the perfect excuse to do whatever he or she wants. Just because a person has an illness or disability does not automatically make them a good and honest.

  • Cenk, why do you still think capitalism has any merit? In the system, we humans are just another resource.

  • I always get scared whe my mother des that because I went to a middle school that had zero tolerance.

  • This is how they want people: So desperate for jobs, they won't give a damn if someone gets fired for making a "eat or die" decision. Now she's gone, they'll have five hundred people applying to take her place. How's that "trickle down economy" working out for ya'?

  • She even paid for it after? Fuck walgreens. This is sick shit.

  • I worked for Rite Aid for a several years and they have the same policy. They would have a Rite Aid news paper and every month we would read how people opened a bottle of soda, ice tea, what have you, and they were fired on the spot. Even a lady who was in line to purchase but opened it and took a sip, just like a customer would, worked there for 20 years and they FIRED her! it's completely out of control.

  • Always eat first. ALWAYS. Seriously. I know plenty of people who are diabetic. Losing your job is much better than losing your LIFE. You could go into a coma and die.

  • Wow Walgreen's really over a 99¢ bag of chips that she was going to pay for ? I'd say we boycott Walgreen's get your prescription from Rite-Aid or CVS who's with me....?

  • I never thought of Walgreen's as being one of 'those' corporations. I stand corrected.

  • a centilla?

  • @canucks117 Ya hurd.

  • If this is not some sort of angle that this womans lawyer is working...

  • @eqsmooth chips will work.

  • @JDBlessin Not fast enough and she should have known that. I seen many comments here that reflect the commenters think she had LOW blood sugar. What the hell?

  • @eqsmooth well you would only want to eat something if your blood sugar was low. When you are in that state your mind goes into an eat everything frenzy, you don't have the presence of mind to go and get a faster acting sugar source. Plus the chips would work pretty fast.

  • @eqsmooth No, I'm pretty sure they still would have fired her for still OPENING it. And my Grandmother is diabetic and has done this before (not in a store, but at my house) so I believe YOUR facts are not completely correct.

  • Comment removed

  • @eqsmooth You need to calm down. And don't disrespect my grandmother simply because I was giving my input on the story. Using profanity won't make you sound intelligent nor will it get your point across any better. Why don't you go open a dictionary and THEN come back and have this conversation with me, okay?

  • Comment removed

  • @eqsmooth You are obviously not calm since you STILL feel the need to use profanity to make yourself seem superior over me. And no I haven't talk to 3 diabetics since replying to your message because I do not feel the need to. Also fixing your low blood sugar with chips is something that is done a lot, you don't NEED candy to do it if you're a diabetic. I am not a 'Dumb ass!' I know what I'm talking about. So once again, take my advice and calm down. Maybe YOU need some chips :)

  • Comment removed

  • @mrsmonkeyking250 I have had the disease for decades. Diabetics should avoid chips altogether. The stupid woman had many better choices. She was hungry, likely fat and grabbed a bag of chips. No doctor, nurse, P.A. ever would recommend chips to raise blood sugar. Juice, glucose, cookies, candy bar period.

  • @eqsmooth I read the other comment you sent and saw that you called me an idiot, there's no deleting that once you send it, just a heads up. Also, all I'm saying is, is that my grandmother has used chips before. May not be the best choice, but it still worked. She ate a few and that did the trick. And there really is no proof of really anything that went on. Everyone still has to go by her words and her employers words so you don't know if she was "fat and looking for a snack".

  • @mrsmonkeyking2 I said she was LIKELY fat. That is a guess. Largest contribution to developing diabetes is anything from being slightly overweight to obese. It is a good, reasonable guess. I would NOT have fired her, in fact I would not have even brought it up unless it was a habit. The point is she worked in a pharmacy 18 years, she had diabetes for a while and she chose potato chips? That is just dumb. Your grandmother's example is just not strong enough. A health professional's advice counts.

  • @eqsmooth The type of diabetes you are referring to, that is caused by being overweight is actually type 2 diabetes. It sounds like this woman had type 1, which is also called juvenile diabetes. That is the type that is not preventable at all. As far as I know, know one really knows how it is caused. Both my brother and sister-in-law have it. They always carry sweets with them just in case. Once a low is felt it must be treated right away...or else it can get ugly pretty quickly!

  • @priestpilot How could anyone deduce that she had Type 1 juvenile Diabetes? And you said your brother and sister in law carry around sweets to raise their blood sugar, not salty CHIPS. Think dude, think.

  • @eqsmooth Chips has carbohydrates, which is sugar. Like I said when the blood sugar gets low, it can get ugly. The chips were most likely the only thing she could get a hold of. Low blood sugar can start with impaired vision, dizziness, weakness... At the first sign it should be treated immediately.

  • @priestpilot Potatoes and corn have carbs, duh! winning! Get a fuckin' clue. She is in a Walgreen's!!!!!!!!!!!

They sell juice and candy al over the fuckin' place and GLUCOSE TABLETS. It is a fuckin' pharmacy you asshole/prick. They sell medications to cure you and candy to kill you. Chips are 5th choice, if any choice. Godamnit get it through your stupid ass head! Juice, soda, cookies, glucose, then chips. Chips take a while to digest. You don't know shit. Try livin' w. the diabetes, schmuck.

  • @eqsmooth No need to swear or call me names. I am just saying that if her blood sugar is low it could impact her judgement and the only thing she can see or think of are chips. She maybe did not have the energy to find something else or seek help from the pharmacist. I do not know the entire story, but I will just say you win and know everything. She is a fat diabetic who just wanted an instant snack without paying for it first.

  • The 5 steps of Loss prevention:

    1. Observe the individual remove the item from the shelf.

    2. Observe them conceal the item.

(either on their person on in a cart, or in this case observe them consume said item..)

    3. Maintain watch on said individual throughout the store.

    4. Witness them pass the last point of purchase (without paying)

    5. Make the stop.

  • The list of corporations and companies guilty of this same type of action and excuse for similar situations is a long and sorry one.

I'm not a union person myself, but this is the exact reason why unions in all corporations and large companies are such a necessary evil in the North American workplace today.

  • CENK! Sincerely speaking i know someone who was caught stealing food and said EXACTLY the same thing when the owner of the store confronter her. *yeah, a girl too* in high school. She was full of shit, and besides, when your blood sugar is high, you dont run for carbohydrates, you run for insulin.

Why the hell is this so obvious to only me? Everyone here is stupid. Diabetes = high blood sugar. Chips = higher blood sugar.

    What. The. Fuck.

  • @treysparker FYI; the basic first aid action for a unknown person found unconscious with no recognizable reason, (and the possible smell of alcohol or sweet present), is to place something like a small candy under their tongue, because they may be diabetic and lapsing into a diabetic coma, from LOW sugar.

  • I dont understand, the chips would cause her blood sugar to spike even more, astronomically.

    Shes lying.

  • @treysparker "I dont understand" "Shes lying." You don't undertsand so she's lying??? Diabetics blood sugars can fall too low as well as rise to high. Her sugars where obviously low, so she had to eat.

  • damn i just got hired by walgreens too. fml

  • I'm surprised that Ana agrees with cenk bc we all know Ana hates fat people....

  • FLASHMOB THAT WALGREENS

everyone shop and eat then pay for the wrappers

  • I work at walgreens and they've given asthmatics free inhalers so they wouldn't die. My question is why if she had low blood sugar, why didn't she get something sweet instead of salty? Something doesn't add up.

  • stealing from walgreens :D i do it

  • @ViciousRanger It seems that you where happy cheering Ron Paul on the coma man and Rick Perry on his executions. Everybody knows that stealing is wrong but: 1-It could be a cheap excuse to save her ass OR 2-she indeed needed that. If you were the manager do you fore her?

  • Walgreens has been added to my boycott list now.

  • So is there a reason why this woman who KNEW she needs food to control her blood sugar, didn't already have food with her in her purse?

Oh that's right, because people don't exercise common sense anymore.

A little bit of planning goes a long way.

  • @ViciousRanger yeah but she didn't. is her life worth a 99 cent bag of chips?

  • @ViciousRanger yeah but she didn't. is her life worth a 99 cent bag of chips?

  • @dovespin1

I could rephrase that you know...

"Didn't she value her life enough to spend 99 cents on a bag of chips for an emergency?"

I'm not agreeing with what Wallgreens did, it just amazes me how people don't take responsibility for themselves. If you know you need medicine/food to survive, and could crash at a moment's notice, keep it with you, do NOT wait until you need it to try to acquire it.

  • @ViciousRanger granted i see your point, she was astronomically negligent to forget her food. i don't know the circumstances that led her to be without food that day, but it didn't seem like she made a habit of forgetting her food as she was employed with walgreen's for 18 years presumably without this type of infraction. i'm willing to give her the benefit of the doubt. does an ER surgeon say to a patient: "you were skydiving, sorry i can't treat the stupid"

  • @ViciousRanger Maybe she forgot. Maybe she ate it earlier in the day. Maybe she figured it wouldn't be a problem as she worked in a place that sells food.

  • I don't agree with Walgreens, but Cenk is retarded. She wouldn't have just died on the spot, you dumbfuck. TYT needs someone who has some sort of non-retarded background in something scientific.

  • @AlexSongDoesCovers

    Haha, yes, they do.

  • f this i like walgreens don't care who they fired ;\

    im still gonna shop there

  • Everyone: Let's begin the massive boycotts somewhere. Let's start with Walgreens. Once we bring a company to their knees, we can start with the other ones.

  • Rules are rules. Sorry, but if you break them you have to face the consequences. She should have been prepared.

  • Wait a second, didn't Walgreens just make similar news recently because a guy had a gun and defended himself?

  • I'm guessing her manager didn't like her for some reason. Because this story makes no sense otherwise.

  • Potato chips? Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus is pretty nasty and when you're going into hypoglycemic shock it's very difficult to make good decisions, but I can't imagine someone having lived with this so long that they would choose a bag of chips for an emergency over soda, juice... even a stick of gum might deliver more carbs faster.

The decision to fire her was stupid, even if she straight out stole a bag of chips, but this sounds more to me like a ploy for sympathy.

  • @aphoxema Dude, maybe she was in the salty snacks aisle when it happened.

  • @MastermindX She may have been, and in that situation it would make much more sense. If that is true then I'll change my (not very important) assumption, but based on the limited evidence I was given it's still what I believe.

  • I walk through grocery stores drinking a juice/water I grabbed from the fridge all the time. Then when I check out I pay for it. Nobody ever gives me crap for handing them a half full drink to check out. Nor should they, I'm buying the thing.

This situation based on what I'm hearing sounds completely ridiculous. Why wouldn't they just deduct a discounted chip price from her check IF she didn't pay for it? If she did, where is the problem in what she did? I don't see it. I feel sorry for her.

  • legally Walgreens is in the right. But what a horrible policy.

  • I get the feeling we're not hearing the full story.

  • @zeus7623 I get that impression too. Also, it seems to me that it would've made more sense for her to grab a soda or some candy since those sugars are readily available to the body.

  • @zeus7623 agreed.

  • The "Zero Tolerance" in this case was probably just convenient for Walgreens to use to fire an (long term) employee.... maybe firing this employee was way over due for whatever their reason...

  • boycott Wallgreens

  • @rightwing52000 Yeah Walgreen's response. Every lawsuit placed against a company shouldn't be assumed to be true.

  • Fuck Walgreens!

  • Please everyone, write a letter to Walgreens' corporate headquarters to protest this.

  • If you're having a "diabetic attack", eating a bag of chips will do fuck all. My guess the woman was a fat ass and couldn't wait to eat them.

  • @soundslave lmao true that. since when can a bag of chips save someones life looool

  • @blackstars56 it takes about an hour before the chips affect blood sugar levels. She couldn't spare and extra 5 minutes to hand over the cash first?
