People love to hop on the anti-label band wagon... Labels are the key to language and communication, personally I like the ability to communicate.... Just to clarify, the problem is not labels, it is discrimination according to labels. Appose blind discrimination, not labels. Stop following people and think about things.
People name and categorize every single thing in existence, including music, I don't get why people get so upset over classifications. Maybe I don't mind cos I'm OCD ;) But I don't get it, not a big deal.
genres are pigeon holes & unfortunatley pigeon holes are where people like to put us.....so if u know your pigeon holes ..you know your genres ....vice verca ?
god...people get so pissy on here...why can't they just enjoy a good tune?...stop trying to prove how smart they are...annoying as hell....peace to Cronick for posting this...Ninja Tunes!!
just because it does not sound like hip hop you have heard before - doesn't mean that it is not hip hop - open you mind - or at least take you head out of you ass
I've been listening to these guys for over 12 years genious, and confining this music to the label is CLOSED MINDED, so maybe if you pull your head out of your ass, you'll see things more clearly, and open.
actually do to its beat structure and use of sample based loops - it is hip hop. Perhaps you are confusing hip-hop with rap which requires a vocalist grunting or what not into the mike.
actually due to it's beat structure and use of sample based loops it is hip-hop. Perhaps you are confusing hip-hop and rap. It is clearly written in 4/4 with base kicks on the 1st and 3rd bet of each measure with some combination of snare or high hat (although tweaked) on the 2nd and 4th beat of each measure. I have had this track on vinyl for 10 years and can attest to the fact that this in deed a hip-hop derivative.
I know what your sayin, it is a hip hop derivitive, but the latin, and clandestine jazz takes it much farther, all in all it's very "beat" in what it saying to me musicaly.

@brickparatrooper1 I'm not against labels. I'm against people making judgement based solely on labels.

I enjoy the discussions on genre. I can learn a lot and get different POVs. Less closed mindedness and criticism.

Honestly, if genres mean anything to you, you are a close-minded arsehole. Good music is good music, regardless of genre.
The genre people choose to categorize a particular piece of music into means NOTHING.

@Frillar last I recall dope samples over a breakbeat is the definition of hiphop. kids is just ignant
sometimes you hafta categorize the world to make sense of it all but if this track doesn't inspire you to flow you dont got a pulse

@Frillar
So true, its like categorizing people as RACES... hell race doesn't even exist, they're just awful labels
Judge people AND music by the quality of what they're made of imo (personality & beats)

@otisthetowndrunk I´d say it balances somewhere between trip-hop and hip-hop..Surely it´s not pure hip-hop.
