peter jackson altered many things from the book(s).

this scene fits in perfectly in a movie.

but as far as the book goes, it was never there.

neither aragorn, nor anyone else had the courage to charge sauron's army.

their challenge was in itself sufficient enough cause to keep sauron's mind pre-occupied as he truly feared that aragorn was assailing him with the power of the ring to aid him.

and that was enough of a decoy to allow frodo to accomplish his quest.

Well, actually they're more than 1000, I think the charge of the black gate is all the Rohirrim and Gondorian soldiers in the end, and all of Mordor...Who really just outnumbers them epicly. The hosts remaining in Mordor were bigger than the seige army for Minas Tirith which was 250,000+ I think.

"nice looking sauron"? XD ... in the "special extended edition" of this rockin' movie, there comes a sweet looking guy which is called "saurons mouth" (?) ... and he talks to Aragorn. but there's no sauron. ... STAND, MEN OF THE WEST

That guy is The mouth of Sauron.

In this clip, when they show the eye or what the good guys see, it is not what was originally scripted. They had shot the scenes with a nice looking Sauron talking to and FIGHTING with Aragorn. But in post-production they decided that it was a too big deviation from the books. So they changed the script and cut away corporeal Sauron completley. Replacing him with the huge troll we see in the fight.

I got this info from the commentary on the extended DVDs.

This whole scene is fucked up. What they had scripted AND SHOT where that Sauron was supposed to come out of the black gate looking 'beautiful' and shine (that's the strange light in their face), then he would speak nicely to Aragorn so when he drops his sword and look back at the others they would believe he had surrendered. The huge troll he fights in the movie is actually painted over the actor who played nice looking Sauron.
