Stop building in out dated Concrete and you might solve some of the problems. Composite metal overlay is the the futur. Examples of Composite metal over lays is everywhere. Take your computer all the circuit cards are done in a composite metal overlay. Ok now take that idea coat a entire surface area of a carbone fiber/kevlar what ever and then over lay it with thin coat of copper like a circuit card. Now take to chrome shop and have it chrome plated. Floating on top of surface.

Very intelligent and impressive efforts have created the studies, but some real data would provide great validation.

I think it is fabulous that scientists and science organizations are using the youtube media to educate the public. People have a natural concern regarding disaster. Geology is a major contributor toward increasing the number of natural disaster events. With enough correct information, most people can make the right decision about what is to be done. It is good to be informed by trained scientists qualified to evaluate the information available.

Im in palm springs too and regularly monitor the usgs real time quake maps. 1 1/2 weeks ago there were only 1 or 2 little squares above the border now see what it looks like and the quakes seem to be slowly creeping in an upward motion. Its quite disturbing

rentintin2000 is right, very right. It's so easy to move a tectonic plate that the FM stations can not transmit simultaneously because the radio waves can move the plates. To all the Californians complaining that we haven't had an earthquake in a while: firstly, I understand your frustration; they're fun as hell! Secondly, we get a few 2.0-3.0 quakes every day, but we don't feel/notice them because we're so used to them. Only the tourists notice anything below 5.0 =)

It's called Post Glaceir Rebound effect. out of the ICCP. The new water from the ice melting from ice pack. it's so heavy it's pushing down the floor of the ocean and then it widens the ocean to receive this new water mostly 6.2 miles down in ocean. follow the baysalt on land. now it's also lefting the land around the world. Climate change is going to cause a domino effect on the west coast. Do to man made earthquakes from global warming. the sea level is not the big deal, its the floor of the ocean that is tarring to open up for the added melt off of ice. then the ocean heats up from top green house gases, and the bottom from magma. follow the earthquakes 6.2 miles down and you'll see it. Has any one seen the 2030 report out washington on climate security. the bay looks good for a 4.5+ in next two weeks or in sea.

LA and So Cal in general was very quiet for several years... but since July of 2008 we've had 3 earthquakes that were felt city and region wide ranging from 4.7-5.4.

Not enough to do any real damage, but a freighting reminder that even in Hollywood mother nature is boss.

The last two happen only 48hrs from one another and really had everyone thinking that it might be a sign that our time here is up... the ground is ready to flex its muscles again.
