The A320 actually has a button to activate ditching mode, which seals any hatches and openings on the bottom. Sully didn't press it. Thinks still worked out ok, but if he had pressed it, the plane would have sunk at a much slower rate.
Anyway, it's awesome when great engineering and great skill combine. I can't think of any other case of an airliner ditching and not breaking up.
Respect to Sullenberger. When he was looking at her I could sense that he was thinking "are you going to ask me an intelligent question". She was awful.

This Captain landed in wet grass (came out of the rainclouds after gliding IFR. Came out of the rain cloudsat about 900 feet agl, did a perfect left gliding turn, aligned, dropped gear and full flaps, gliding turn it perfectly, avoided ditching in the Lake.. NOW who is better?
Taca was at a good 16,500 when they had the first indication of possible flame-out and they had speed on their hand too.. Cactus was at barely 3,000' AGL and still in initial climb out so barely over the stall speed.. They had neither speed nor altitude at hand to have a second choice or thought. Its way different !!!

At 16,500 you can still steer course, at 3,000 over NY, you don't have choices :)

They should have had another pilot give the interview. So that sully could use the terms pilots usually use and the interviewer could translate. For example, he could say apu, atc, and he/she wouldn't ask him stupid questions.

I am well aware of Sully`s flamout, and i must state this captain knows his way around, decision been made on such little time frame and under a LOT of pressure is what Sully truly makes a difference. nowadays we have great pilots dispite all technology advances. The difference is the human factor, and Sully prove this right. My respect to Sully

Sully had it VERY EASY, he had no turbulance, no rain.. Want so se Real Hero Pilot, type on the words "taca airlines 110" and watch.
This Captain landed in wet grass (came out of the rainclouds after gliding IFR. Came out of the rain cloudsat about 900 feet agl, did a perfect left gliding turn, aligned, dropped gear and full flaps, gliding turn it perfectly, avoided ditching in the Lake.. NOW who is better?

Taca was at a good 16,500 when they had the first indication of possible flame-out and they had speed on their hand too.. Cactus was at barely 3,000' AGL and still in initial climb out so barely over the stall speed.. They had neither speed nor altitude at hand to have a second choice or thought. Its way different !!!
How did Sully have it very EASY ???
At 16,500 you can still steer course, at 3,000 over NY, you don't have choices :)

Instead he saved all passengers life and his crew by landing into the hudson river. I'm sure the person you're referring to did a great job as well. He wouldn't have made it to an airport and risked a hard land break up had he not chose the water instead. I am a Vancouver resident and we just had a small plane crash here yesterday. The pilot attempted to land a plane on a city street close to our airport and was not successful in doing so. This was a lear jet type of plane. Imagine if it had been a bigger plane and the consequences!

Also, a trainer of pilots for specific emergency situations. He literally saved dozens of lives through his incredibly advanced training and experience.
Had you been on that plane, you'd probably have just scooched your butt into that cozy seat and ordered another drink. Think first.

I'll give her this: She's thorough. She's gone through this flight almost moment by moment. Sully isn't making her job any easier by anticipating her questions. He's not elaborating or expanding on his answers. He answers fully, but no more than that. This doesn't make him the easiest interview subject.

They should have had another pilot give the interview. So that sully could use the terms pilots usually use and the interviewer could translate. For example, he could say apu, atc, and he/she wouldn't ask him stupid questions.
