  • Man, I really don't like my FL70. Power output is crap and tuning is a nightmare, not to mention weighing in at 20 ounces. I'll have to keep flying with it until it just explodes, then I'll gladly get another Saito :)

  • Hi! i got a FL-70, no problems before, but now i do struggle with the low-speed needle, how do i tune it? shall i idle it, and turn that screw until i got the highest RPM at idle?

  • @katanav2 Take it up to around half throttle 5000 - 6000 RPM & screw in your low needle untill you get no more increase in rpm then richen it (open it ) to slightly richen it again, then go to full throttle & set your high needle as per normal.

then check your transition from idle to full throttle , if theres a lag or flat spot then open(richen) the low needle untill you get a nice smooth transition.

hopefully that should give you a nice consistant idle & smooth transition to full noise.

  • @psjdb

You meen the oposite? out is more air, and in is less air to the fuelmixture on this carb.? W60 or something

  • @katanav2 ..No when you are adjusting the needle you are changing the fuel entering the engine therefore opening the needle is allowing more fuel in richening the mixture, & screwing it in less fuel leaning the mixture.

You want to run your glow fourstrokes with a slightly rich setting for more lube & better cooling.

Your low needle controls the mixture up untill about half throttle hence the leaning of the mixture untill peak RPM at half throttle then richen slightly.

    Hope I explained it OK.

  • @psjdb That is how it is on two strokes, and the most 4 strokes, yes. But not in this carb? the 60W carb is a airbleed carb, witch says that the low speed needle works the oposite way ;)

  • @katanav2 A ok ,it has been a while since I have played around with this engine, it is currently out of action waiting on parts & my memory isn't what it use to be.

I think from memory I kept adjusting the low needle untill I had a consistant idle that would not drop off much when the nose was lifted or dropped (I think you may see me do that in the vid ).Then just fine tuned it for the smooth response from idle to W.O.T.

You maybe able to get some info from RCuniverse on tuning with this carb

  • I just got my third FL70 not a bit of trouble with any of them and just love the sound of them

  • I agree ,did over heat mine once and paid the price with the rear plastic crank cover being damaged not a biggie though & it certainly has alot of torque.

  • I got the FL-70 mounted inverted in a control line Strega. Set for wide open throttle. Runs Great. Easy Starting. No issues here.

  • Bliddy hell, thats a bit hardcore!

  • 4-strokes run better inverted than 2-strokes do!!!....

The reason? Because the fuel does not shoot derectly from the side ports, it comes in on the intake valve, and does not drop it right on the glow plug like a 2-stroke does!!

  • Well this one is running well inverted I have had no problems with it at all.

And the bad rep is from the RC sites I visit

the reason they bag it so much is because its not ringed/abc and the up draft carb alot of people have had trouble running them but as I said this one has run perfectly for me no dramas at all.

    Steffan.

  • The FL. 70 does not have a bad rep, it's just not ringed. Oh and By the way 4-strokes don't run very well inverted.
