Mr Wolf please dont bring up the "Founding Fathers", they lived in a time when Slavery was still seen as normal, where Women were seen as inferior, when most people took the bible literelly, where you had to be a white male over the age of 21 and own land to vote, If you read the writings of the Founding Fathers they all said that the Constitution would evolve over time, stop living in the 1770s.

During Judiciary Committee on a bill to repeal DP in Nebraska, those testifying noted DP is more expensive than LWOP & current DP doesnt adequately address racial bias/wrongful convictions. Colorado University sociology prof Michael Radelet testified DP does not deter murder & public support is waning. Senator Loran Schmit said he was outspoken supporter for years but changed when he learned of disparities in sentencing "I also thought death penalty would be a deterrent I no longer believe that"

The European Union is not by any means 'extreme leftist', it's views are shared by many other industrialized Western Nations around the world and even in undeveloped countries. It is America that is isolated on this issue and is run by the extreme right. When that happens, basic human decency is made out to be something 'extreme' when in fact, it is a responsibility of civllized people everywhere.

He's certainly a prize wanker. Quite apart from his idiotic remarks, absurdly comparing the discomfort of his pregnant wife to the infliction of physical pain on persons undergoing execution, he came out in favour of firing squads and hanging over lethal injection with no reasons given for this bizarre preference. What a nasty, creepy man.

Life in prison with its daily exposure to rape, brutality and confinement is not only truly cruel, but it is also very unusual punishment. The gentle, sterile injection of lethal drugs is the merciful, easy way out.

I agree 100%. In fact, lethal injection is one of the quickest and less painful methods of execution. Hanging is relatively quick, but extremely painful, the electric chair is painful, firing squad was obviously painful. Besides of which, even serial killers on death row, have tried to kill others (like Richard Ramirez tried to do to Scott Peterson). What would they do if they were in a less-contained area w/ other lifers?

Of course they are all innocent on death row - they always are, despite being caught on video blowing some poor shop assistant away. Bianca is right when she says there are many blacks on death row but they are unfortunately over represented when it comes to violent crime.

I can't believe what Charlie Wolf is saying! When we finally abolish the death penalty we will all look back on arguments like his with absolute abhorrance. The human rights argument is utterly supreme in this case. Why are we obsessed about what the Founding Fathers did or didn't think?
