The army made an official statement apologizing, and they said that no orders were ever given to beat protesters. People tend to abuse power when they feel that they have power over other people, and there are many psychological studies that document this, you can research that.

Also he says that while they were being tortured, the military asked them to say "long lives Mubarak". Why would the ask them to say that. Mubarak is gone... he has been gone since the 11th of Feb. That simply does not make sense.
