APSC SENSOR advantages and disadvantages

5 years ago a camera like nikon d2x, d2xs was the best of the world, amazing image quality and huge prints, there was a time where the nikon D200 and D300 were the best of the best profesion´s choice, and nobody complained. Now with full frame and lots of megapixeles they say the " old" cameras work terrible and are dinosaurs and no way a professional can use them. just for consideration: the human eye can not see the difference of a 8 by 10" print with a 8 Mp or 60 Megapixel camera,

I do own a APS-C sized DSLR, like so many! Still I buy full frame glass, why? One day maybe I finally own full frame. Second? The middle of the lens is the sharpest, so you get FREE sharpness if you use big Full Frame lenses on a APS-C sized body.

Hi there,

For what it`s worth there are plenty of seasoned pros out there still shooting away day and daily using cameras like the Nikon D2Xs and D300`s and having there images accepted by top stock agencies for licensing. I think your video is implying that for this level of photography you would need a full frame camera. 12mp worth of good pixels is plenty for most situations whether DX or FX.

I need your advise. I recently got a 5D mark II. :) What lenses do you recommend that i can afford. Budget is about 2 - 3k. I own a 50mm 1.8 from my current 7D. All other high class lenses dont work on 5D. :(

@ArtJorgeCom If I had 3k I would invest in a 16-35mm f/2.8 and a 70-200 f/2.8 That would actually run about $3,200 but if you got it, get it =o)  Peace

Besides the focus... A 10MP APSC-sensor has smaller pixels than a 10MP full-frame sensor. So does the APSC tend to create noise on low-light situations compared to the full frame sensor? (Because the smaller pixels can't capture as much light as the bigger pixels on the full-size sensor..

One important(the most important to me) factor you didnt talk about is how sensor size effects dof. Also you could have mentioned aps-h size sensor, because original 1d and mkII are dirt cheap nowadays and still great cameras, at least compared to these new beginner models.

I'm looking mostly at the Nikon d5000, and the Canon XSi, but do you know if the manual Minolta lenses will work with Sony's Cameras(Minolta sold out to them, right?)? If they do, I'll have to consider a sony camera!

@ForestsRequiem I would say use what you got. I learned on a film camera the Nikon FM10. I love that camera to this day. I have not used it in years but the camera was an indispensable learning tool.

My school of thought was to Master that camera before ever getting a "automatic" SLR. It just so turned out that when I felt good enough to move on, Digital cameras where busting onto the market.

I'm looking into getting my first DSLR, since I don't have lots of $, or experience(I'm limited to reading about it, and experimenting in stores... I need to make my way to a camera store soon) I'll go for an APSC camera!

My Dad has an old Minolta Film SLR that I can use. Do you think it is worth learning on before I get a DSLR or since it is all manual, and I can't get the instant feedback on my photos should I just go strait to digital?

By all means start with the film camera (manual). This is THE BEST advice I can give you, by pesonal and friends experience. If you are serious about learning photography.
