This is just classic Gene Watson. It can't get any better. It amazes me that this song did not make it to #1. I was at one of his shows recently and his voice is still great.

When Gene released Back in the Fire, I really thought he would finally get his due. It was classic Gene material and this is one of the songs that showcased his vocal talents. Although the CD did well and he picked up a newer following, it didn't put him on top like I thought it would. His falling out with Lib Hatcher is sad, but I guess that's the way it goes in business sometimes. Sometimes your the windshield and sometimes your the bug. But, I still think no one can hold a candle to him.

Styliscally, yes. But I don't think Merle could sing it this well.

I wish I could have seen him in concert in the mid 80's. He had a number of hits and I was singing many of those songs. In fact I still sing some of them in my band 20 plus years later. Great voice.
