Yes he came on to be Starr's new love interest, but BB hadnt mentioned his departure yet. His contract was due for negotation after James and Starr were sharing scenes. Their plan was to put Cole and Hannah together and Starr and James, and halfway thru that BB decided not to renew his contract, so they had to do a rewrite with Hannah going insane again and writing out Cole.
