i used to have this on VHS when i was younger, i got it from a second hand shop........ im not sure what happened to it the tape may have been chewed up in the video machine or lost. but you maybe able to find it on ebay or another on line store?
I have seen almost every episode, every movie, and all versions of Space Battleship Yamato / Star Blazers ever made. I will never get bored of it. Even my kids love it.

@bellefeu The original producer, Yoshinobu Nishizaki, approved of all the name changes for this version, and later approved the name changes for STAR BLAZERS as well.

The actor who voiced Okita was famous stage actor Marvin Miller, who id best known to Sci-Fi fans as the voice of Robby the Robot in "Forbidden Planet". I'm just glad they kept the original names. Other than that, this isn't all that impressive. At all. And the music sounds a bit higher pitched than in the anime.
this version is to say the least....Very strange. Its like buying a Big Mac at McDonalds throwing out the burger and eating the box it came in...it smells like a Big Mac but brother....it sure don't taste or satisfy like a Big Mac!!!!!!!! LoL!!!!!
Why was there still Japanese text but using different names? Eg Shane O'Toole? They should just go with all English if they will change the names like that.
After watching this series I find it empty...I like how they strung together some episodes...but why use a drill missle against the spaceship? iN this series, the wave motion gun was not even used. Didnt the enemy wonder why this ship with the hole in the front was flying thru space?

I started with Robotech the Macross Saga and moved on to more recent things like EVA and Gunbuster, only now do I see how great this show always was and why it has always been copied
The voices are from the original Westchester release of Star Blazers in the early 80' s(The original Speed racer voice cast). The video footage itself is from the newer enhanced copies that were recently released in Japan.
The storyline follows the original Japanese release (including the more graphic death scenes0 as do the names somewhat.

He wrote lyrics for other English albums like Danguard Ace. Berger may be the source of the "Cruiser" instead of "Battleship" for the English name, since it fit the meter. I haven't heard any official confirmation of the "Nishizaki's yacht" fable for the misnaming.

So this was the first ever dubbed star blazers, its interesting but the voice actors lack the depth and emotion from the series.

This 'movie' actually debuted in the states BEFORE the 'Sta Blazers' series. Thus, the different names and titles (Gorgons? GAMELONS!).

You need to see the actual series. The movie version is too condensed and a lot of the story and character development is lost.

It's funny watching this now, with voices and character names that are "wrong" to my memory of youth....I am from USA and grew up with "Star Blazers"

i cant believe this is soooo different with original animation.
i like "uchuu senkan yamato" but i hate "starblazers "& "space cruiser yamato" cause they are too changed and alternated story.

Is the dub produced before "Star Blazers?" There is a bit less censorship but the voices aren't as memorable.
