Scholes' was horribly found out on the big stage. Look back at the trashing United received from Milan (0-3) against a midfield of Seedorf, Pirlo, Kaka. Or the trashing United received from Real Real Madrid back in 2003 with Zidane, Makelele, Figo in midfield (Scholes actually gave away a goal due to a poor pass). It's one thing dominating Blackpool, Hull, Stoke, Norwich, Bolton and Wigan in the SKY era of the Premiership. It's another to compete against the best in the CL or World Cup.

Scholes is extremely overrated nowadays. He got underrated for a long time so people now try to compensate for it and overrate him in hindsight. He's probably one of the best midfielders of the Premier League in the past 2 decades, true, but that's not much of an achievement in a league that was well known for being a kick & rush league for the majority of Scholes' time in it. Look at Fabregas. He was tearing the PL a new one at age 16 and he's only Spain's bench player. Or David Silva.
