  • Is it just my screen, or does it look like the entire video was shot with a cell phone with the auto-focus set to "Off"?

At least they don't have rap/metal music in the background. Gotta give 'em credit for that.

Another ersatz bike review from the august body that is Motorcyclenews.

  • Has the sound of a Kawasaki EN500 twin motor, It has the looks of a large bike. It weighs ready to ride at 575 LBS and makes a little over 107+ HP, and it looks nice for it's type. Just a little to tall for me in the seat height of 33.26" low or 34.25" high. Still ride able thou. They could have made a better video for it. Most of the info I found was in the cycle shop & online.

  • Was that Bike's MFG's baldy head I spotted just after the yamaha technician?

  • shut the f"£K up and RIDE!! please.

  • Just a great bike, I've test rode it three times now--- I will be getting one!!

  • poor video.I have a GS1200, by the way I think the GS is a shit! It is only 20.000 miles and has lot of problems, but after saw this video still not a reason to change the bike.It is a shame!

  • @rzbrasil I can't wait to find an alternative to the BMW, that keeps its price has (overall) a good network of dealers etc. I've had loads of problems but at least they are dealt with, I don't know about other dealers' network consistency but I fear apart from Triumph I wouldn't get the service.(of course It may not be required as often!)

  • Rupert Paul, the man who started the Cadwell Park riot because he removed a big titted girl from the stage killing the 'entertainment'......the rest is folklore......Man up Rupe!

  • Touringgg....nguuung..ngung.

  • what a lame video, tells me nothing

  • yust love too bee a yamaha tehnician;)

  • What a waste of time! I got more information about the bike spending 15 seconds with it in the back of a dark trailer at my dealer after they packed it up on it's statewide tour.

  • he does great reviews

  • Lardy

  • trevor franklin is both eloquent and good looking. I'm surprised he hasn't found his way onto mainstream TV.

  • mcn.. hmmm very poor for real information, had to fast forward to look for the nitty gritty, guess when you are treated like kings for a test it takes balls to be critical or state facts.... i know know know perhaps that you are enuchs.

  • mcn.. hmmm very poor for real information, had to fast forward to look for the nitty gritty, guess when you are treated like kings for a test it takes balls to be critical or comparitve.... i know know know perhaps that you are enuchs.

  • get on with the review. this is the most piss poor excuse for a bike review ive ever seen, and im done with MCN after this. fire this jackass on this vid, hire real writers and producers, and get your shit straight!

  • a varadero.......heavy for gravel roads,it is only for asphalt.so the name tenere is fake......

  • I love the S-10! Great video and fun to watch.

  • guys BMW R 1200 GS is the best bike on the earth

  • A good review, but you did manage to dodge the question of if you were buying today, which adventure touring bike would you buy? BMW r1200 GS, Super Tenere or the Multistrada?

  • Too little to late - Ducatti blows this away. Beside this thing looks like a smeared buger. No matter what I do I can't bring myself to like it.

  • who needs a bike this big to ride it so slow like these guy. My 50 cc scooter could have gone faster in these roads than what this guy was doing on this cool bike.

  • @kingklr1 you need to xt660 1200 in action in youtube, you read titles there s a crazy vid with this guy doing all kinds of crazy shit on the Super tenere. You 50cc wouldn't be able to do that stuff. Actually I will PM the link to you.

  • Looks like the bike has tiny headlights...hardly enough to provide much light for Adv. riding.

  • Sorry, but can somebody explain what a information this video includes? To inform about the price i need not to test a bike somewhere else in a other country. So everybody could see now that this bike can drive with suitcases a few times around a curve... and that there were hills and country-land... yes, it was unbelievable. This is no motorcycle-test to see people on a journey. You are not seriously testing, even not like amateurs informing. I still hope only for you it was a nice trip

  • die maschinen haben ein neusser kennzeichen. wurde die in neuss zur verfügung gestellt?!

  • Well-I know less about the bike now than before I watched the video.

  • awesome bike but so poor production really. Seems like you were shooting with a phone than a camera. Next time when you''ll talk keep the visor closed or maybe cut all the sound.

  • get better cam

  • Guys - more professionalism, less vistas, less corny S bend shots. More about the bike!

    GET A PRODUCER! Fugg

  • @LonesomeCraig mcn is a paper, the video is a byproduct,not the business/money maker

  • What a crappy review again MCN ... it feels like the guy is going to fall asleep. And what crappy sound and video quality. I do better for my vacation with a compact camera. Seriously, there's room for improvement.

Other than that, the bike seems capable FOR THE PRICE. Stop comparing it with BMW, that's not the point. People that can afford BMW or KTM will buy them. People who can't will find something close, like this.

  • @etychon This has been a spot on comment about the bike and the video. You should review bikes haha. Did a better job via text in 20 seconds than the video here.

  • dont waste time and money on this bike... just get GS1200!

  • it's very nice.... but no way worth the money..... for that sort of money i'd get the ducati multistrada

  • Worst review and reviewer ever..... MCN cut this guy loose

  • try this link to see the bike off-road: //lh3.ggpht.com/_tOX-8OFPrrA/TBe5U36IF2I/AAAAAAAACRU/-LEl8k8yrkc/IMG_9583.jpg

  • ugly bike

  • im still wondering why they made it shaft drive, i was just thinking how this was my dream bike but why shaft drive isnt that more prone to issues??? why not keep it simplistic??

  • @newpage123 shaft drive is more reliable on long trips. No chain tightening no chain breaks,

  • @newpage123 When you ride in sand, mud, snow, etc... you definitely know why you want a shaft drive over the chain... Sand and mud in chain are a real pain on a long trip.

I wish the XTZ 660 Tenere would also have a shaft drive.

  • Little beat more entusiasam can'n do any harm

    THE BEST .... TENERE 660

  • me gusta pero me quedo con la r 1200 gs de bmw !

  • This bike is a big deal for Yamaha. Besides the latest R1, this Tenere was one of the most anticipated bikes for thousands of riders all over the world. Many years of development have gone into this important motorcycle. After MCN tested this machine and the first publication in the world to print a first impression, what do we get? A totally unhappy, negative, and depressing sounding pathetic Brit, unable to even raise a single positive comment after days on the road. This guy needs a Prozac !

  • You could do with some more cheery bike testers...

  • That was the most joy I've seen come from this dude. I'll bet he even smiled once or twice.

  • looks a nice bike , they have taken a long time to get to this. I had an XTZ750 s'ten' and absolutely loved it for .....then 2 GSs' , because KTM that I think was the only natural follow on to the Yam had no dealer any where near.

I could happily swop my K1200R for this, after a a lot of saving up (apparently 36000mile K1200Rs are worth very little)

  • why are the engines on these bikes so big? Seems like that would limit the versatility of an otherwise very versatile bike. Don't think I'd want to be taking that thing down dirt roads and risk getting stuck.

  • Hum, i think it´s a nice bike, no like the Aprilia RSV 4..... it´s amazing. I like the real trails. This megatrails on dirt..... one day in an year. I prefer something like the KTM SMC 690 R...... an authentic fifthy fifthy.

Excuses for my pathetic english level, it sucks.

    Hi, from north of Spain.

  • Great, taunting us with yet another bike we can't get in the USA.

  • @coollattin You are right on guy . I think I heard 1200 cc but it sounds like my old KLR650 . Way too big if 1200 . It looks like they took turns driving around the same corner . I won't buy Yamaha anymore sinse they wouldn't stand behind the warranty . About 10 years behind BMW / Kawasaki and KTM aren't they ?

  • It looks to be a nice enough bike, but in the real world I can't imagine many people would choose it over a GS or Multistrada. Especially at this price.

  • I want to see more offroad scene.

  • the bike is not bad.. but 13k is steep for a bike like this.

  • This bike's ugly to me, and I don't like the sound of it. Looks like a great touring bike, but I'll stick with the ZX14 so I can get the best of both worlds. (Racing and touring.)

  • @CommanderKairu: Give me a break. Your comparing the kind of touring you do on a ZX14 with the kind of touring you do on these bikes? Touring has sub categories too.

  • @usart2008 No, I said that I would stick with the 14 because of the fact that it's still a super sport but it has touring capabilities, and I would rather be able to do both than be stuck with just one.

  • @CommanderKairu : You wouldn't want to go near a 14 when you travel hard core distances. 14 is fine for some small time touring. The arguments if any is between the big tourers.

  • @usart2008 "hard core distances"? What qualifies as hard core? You can do any mileage on pretty much any bike - I've done 700-800 mile days travelling on a 600 hornet. Too much snobbery involved in bike choice - use what you've got!

  • @Flipout360 I've done 700-800miles on a 200cc motorcycle. I would love to do a 800mile trip on a 14 or a Hornet. I'm not talking about 700-800 miles. I am talking about days and weeks and months of travelling. Lets see a 14 or a Hornet hold up to bad/no roads for 1000s of miles together and then lets see your back hold up.There is a reason why these bikes are made the way they are. Kawasaki makes the brilliant KLR for a reason. Respect the purpose.

  • @usart2008 I've done 7-800 mile days for 6 1/2 weeks straight with just 4 days off that whole time with plenty of dirt track roads and most of it on pretty appalling roads and the hornet didn't miss a beat. It was also a hell of a lot comfier than other bikes I've done long distances on (inc. RG12). ADV looks awesome - great to see people using their bikes as the manufacturers intended but my point was that most people don't and any pretty much bike can be used with the right frame of mind.

  • @Flipout360 Trust me, it takes a lil more than the "right frame of mind" to be going weeks and weeks together. I have a similar bike like yours, a local made one and I have done a part of the Himalayas with it. if you've ever heard of Leh,Ladakh in the Himalayas then you know what I mean. That doesn't prove anything. I still know that if I have to do that kind of riding for weeks and months together, the bike AND me will more than just miss a beat.

  • @CommanderKairu So you're going to take your ZX14 off road, huh? Yeah, good luck with that.

  • @UltraSWG Neither of these bikes were made for the sole intention of going off road. If I wanted that I would get a KLR. If I wanted to go on dirt roads with the ZX all I would really have to do is get a good pair of tires, it's not that big of a problem, so have fun with your assumptions.

  • @CommanderKairu Who said they were made for the "sole intention"? This bike is an Adventure/Touring bike. If you want to say your ZX14 is a Sport/Touring, fine, but what does that have to do with the Tenere or any other Adventure/Touring bike? And if you really think that all a Ninja needs to go off road are some tires, then frankly, you're a dipshit who doesn't know anything about bikes. Good luck off roading your ninja with that whole 4 inches of ground clearance.

  • @UltraSWG +1

  • @UltraSWG I've personally never seen people take bikes like this further off road than gravel or dirt trails which I've done comfortably on a 600 hornet. Sure, it won't manage anything much more rugged but it's much more flexible on the road. At the end of the day most people who buy bikes like this, even if they use them for long distance travelling, don't use them off road enough to make it worth the compromise. Plus I would dearly love to see someone off-roading a ZX14! Comedy win!

  • @Flipout360 maybe you would want to check out ADV to see people making FULL use of their machines. A group of subtle and friendly folks travelling the world. Its funny when someone says "will stick to my 14r" comparing it to a super tourer.

  • @UltraSWG By off roading I was talking about dirt paths / unpaved roads. Not out in the middle of nowhere. I'm sure neither of these bikes were made to do that. If I were going to do that I would just buy a dirt bike.

  • @CommanderKairu You're the classic example of the guy who doesn't "get it". This bike is the same kind of bike as the VStrom, R1200GS, and Multistrada. They are made to go off road, not just dirt and gravel roads. You need to watch some more videos of these adventure bikes to see what they are intended for.

  • This bike's ugly to me, and I don't like the sound of it. Looks like a great touring bike, but I'll stick with the ZX14 so I can get the best of both worlds. (Racing and touring.)

  • Although the old one is probably THE uglest bike in the world, this comes aa close second.

  • Poor video quality....

  • Poor audio, get the Mic closer, or scream.

    I LIKE MOTORCYCLES, FORGET BRANDS.

    Every bike has it's niche.

  • Very nice and much more reliable than a BMW.

  • i prefer the bmw...

  • great design, but of course yamaha ruined it with the blue colors...

    silver was astonishing...

  • Like it a lot............but like the mutlistrada more.
