Um ya it does affect the performance big tim if the computer dosent get the right exhaust readings it could make the truck run to rich or th lean which greatly affects the horsepower
@0113TMoney13 no... stock cats are made to flow the same as striaght pipe and its up to 10k fine for every cat you take off. and you may not have enough back pressure, u need 1-2psi. and gutting them youll lose hp an torque, for most torque go shorty headers, if your f150 has 4 cats cut the 2 rear ones out and weld a straight pipe in there place this will make it a little louder and youll still have the other cats, then a x pipe and straights the rest of the way, oh and stay stock diameter.
@heathmeador Back pressure isnt good at all on ur engine, thats why nascar, stock car, rally car, and any other non street legal cars run theres without cats. It makes ur engine work harder. Its lik trying to lift weights in a pressurized chamber. I would kno i have a full rie scholorship for wyotech.
@sumblocka wow that comment right there shows how much wyotech sucks, Thats why im at UTI right now. Im sorry to say, you dont know shit dude. Thank u an have a good day
@heathmeador Thats why i we gained 25 hp on a Vette after we took off the cats....Thats why people always run straight pipes. If u kno so much then explain to me why it would b better to run with the cats and how it really affects ur performance?
@sumblocka cats dont really affect performace but they do give u alittle backpressure wich is good for low end torque. U had to do other things to it at the same time u took the cats off to gain 25hp. and havin no back pressure youll loose low end torque and i dont see how nascar, stock cars and stuff fit with a vid of a f150. Last time i checked my f150 didnt have a nitro burnin 10k revin motor in it. And true dual straight pipes are not efficient till 7K and f150's will never see 7K,
@heathmeador Not trying to argue with you, just informing anyone who happens to read this. Gettin rid of cats and runnin true straights will kill low end torque, thats a fact. But, you do not lose the torque because of the lack of back pressure. You lose the torque because the stock ecu is programmed for the amount of back pressure the stock exhaust has. If you get your truck custom tuned to run with a free-flowing exhaust it can be very beneficial throughout the entire powerband.
@cstritz where are u guys getting this from??? yall are crazy do whatever u want.... i mean im not learning from the top proffessionals in the field or anyathing here
@heathmeador I personally got it from my dad and grandfather who have owned one of the largest performance shops in Houston for over 40 years now. They know their stuff, as do I. Like I said I'm not one of the people who just gets on here to argue. I was just throwing some useful information out there that i thought some people might like to know. Having back pressure is not good for performance, it's limiting the ease of which the engine can release exhaust, hence limiting performance.
@heathmeador When people run most the time youll notice they breath through their mouth instead of their nose. Why? Because to inhale again, they must exhale. If they were to breath through the nose itd be more restrictive and would take longer to exhale unless they force the air through the nose faster than normal which would just mean more work for the body. It is easier to just open up their mouth and have a free-flowing exhaust system that allows them to exhale with ease.
@heathmeador Based on your theory though, if a man were going to run a sprint and needed some low end torque he should breath through his nose the whole run and keep his mouth shut the entire time. He should make it harder on himself to exhale because that would somehow improve his performance. We both know that doesnt make sense. I hope you see what Im saying. Im not trying to bash you or your ideas in any way. I just wanted to share some insight and be as helpful and educating as possible.
@cstritz You compare an Internal Cumbustion Engine to a human being? seriously? but while its true you need some backpressure to keep the car running properly, once you pass the 300hp mark on an engine, you can run open headers and not worry about anything, engines and living organisms are completely different
@ADD8oi Yes i understand that they operate differently but it was a good example of the relationship between intake and exhaust while under pressure. And no again you do not need backpressure to keep the car running properly if you have it PROPERLY tuned. I dont know where you got your "300hp mark" comment from but my guess is you pulled out of thin air. There are so many different factors than just how much hp the engine is producing.
@cstritz while its true, a generally street driven car over 300hp has enough detonation not to require much backpressure to start and run without any issues, thats an approximation not a set number
hey man nice truck had a lifted yeller one a while back but just got a f150 fx4 single cab lifted i was wondering about the feed back on those tires hows the grip i got the toyo M/Ts pretty much same style but i never hear much about the tires your sporting
@riseaway777 Everyone from where i'm from has the Nitto Mud Grapplers. They are extremely great off road. The tread life is the worst point. Great tires for the money tho
i would say like a 6 inch lift
