Hey guys! The whole point of this movie is that Dexter has to *outgrow* the games he plays, outgrow being a Steve, in order to be loved. (Notice I'm not talking about him loving a woman - I'm talking about her loving HIM.)
"Steve" is a mythological construction, and a sophomoric one at that. The screenwriter of this film said so himself.
So if you're trying to apply the Tao of Steve to real life (at least for more than 30 minutes after meeting her), YOU'VE MISSED THE POINT!
We need to always act like we aren't interested. Keep the mistery. Keep sending mixed signals until you get where you want. Then it's up to you to chose the kind of relationship you want with her.
Anyway, 30m isn't enough to get to know someone and to build rapport, atraction and comfort. You need to qualify her, like you are saying "ok, you are cute and pretty, but you need more than that to impress me".
@WatchLearnSee - Oh, I don't know. I've always liked men who seemed interested in me. Guys who are distant are BORING. They seem emotionally stunted and cold. In other words, guys have to be more than handsome and cute to impress me.
I shouldn't be telling this to you but you also shouldn't be seeing a movie designed for guys (created by guys, where there are guys as actors, in order to please male viewers. Love the irony): Let's imagine I see you in the street; I approach you and then I tell you stories about my past experiences; etc. Let's say you're the kind of girl who is attracted to that kind of stories and you start thinking "Uhm... He may be fun". And then I qualify you. Done.
@WatchLearnSee - No, I DISqualify you, because you're the kind of asshole who thinks a woman shouldn't be seeing movies supposedly by and for guys. (Especially since you're wrong. I heard an interview on NPR with the writer of this film and he didn't make it for guys.)
It means after you get the chick interested, you act like you don't like them. Retreat by making it so that you can't be theirs. People want things they can't have.
"We chase what retreats from us", I think that was Heidegger

If in 30m she knows she has won you, game over.

he is trying to get off the point that women want a man who has the power to walk away at any time but chooses to stay at his own will

You don't have to be physically gone...
you can be "gone" by teasing her...

Okay so exactly how are you supposed to "Be Gone"?

I was just wondering that.
I am thinking you just walk away and maybe say something "I am goign with my friends/goign to the bathroom"
