  • Saw this on the Netflix DVD last night, it's a great documentary to encourage dissent. Being patriotic doesn't necessarily mean wrapping yourself in the flag or being pro war. There was an entire peace movement consisting largely of Vietnam veterans but corporate mainstream media would have us thinking it was only Jane Fonda. I think it's especially relevant today when combat veterans are returning to civilian life. They should be expected to have a say in democracy and encouraged to organize.

  • @aundreadejarnett So the solution?, abolish extremism (especially religious extremism) globally. Don't forget that many middle eastern nations are slowly catching up technologically, but haven't had the sociocultural evolutions we have had; the Renaissance, Post-Industrialism, Liberalism, hell most have only just been swept by a recent push for democracy. Hence, you have dated, oppressive mindsets, of which very few have ever spoken against or challenged (and if they do - it's beheading time).

  • @aundreadejarnett "America insists on pissing off all of the Arab world" - so HOW pre-9/11?, being of a different religion? (and in majority of non-Arab race), being more technologically and socially advanced?, supporting the very system of arabian wealth through oil (which, without this source for their economy, the people of the UAE, Saudi, Iran and Libya alone would be far worse off) and even supporting Mujihadeen for a while? Yes, gratitude came in the form of 9/11 - religious fanaticism.

  • Just know that this same sort of pussy-passive attitude before 911 is what led to an attack on the US and consequently war in the middle East. Want to see what happens when Americans can't take no more... In YouTube Search: Let the bodies hit the floor

  • seems like a great documentary. i found this description on IMDB:

"serves as a ready reminder to civilians that soldiers may oppose war as stridently as any civilian"

that says it all. im gettin this documentary

  • For the love of OUR nation, get out of this Hegelian "left versus right" determinist worldview. We need GOOD U.S. military to disobey unlawful orders from their superiors! "I was obeying orders" did not work at Nuremburg so LEARN.

  • AMEN!!!!!

  • The Shadow parallel government in D.C. fears Vietnam vets because they're waking up to how they were misused as tools of the "World Order" crowd. Our Iraq vets will ALSO be abandoned by the Veterans Administration when they come home with Gulf War illness that the Feds say "does not exist."

  • Lets all stop paying taxes-period! That should change the attitude in DC. If enough of us refuse, they cant do shit.

  • "British Israelism" is behind all modern Wars. The scripted "Cold War" made billions for International banks in London and Wall St.

The USA secretly provided the boats that removed sea floor sediment so that the Port of Haiphong in N. VIetnam would remain open. This port took in 80% of the "enemy's" supplies. Patriot elements in the US Military forced Kissinger, et al. to end the war, or else face being exposed.

  • "the whole war was based on the faulty domino theory. " Faulty? Explain Rhodesia, El Salvador, Nicaruaga, Afghanistan, Peru, and Cambodia.

  • The domino theory applied only to Southeast Asia, a region comprised of 11 nations, none of which include the above mentioned Rhodesia, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Afghanistan or Peru. It is also important for you to understand that of those 11 countries, a total of 3 'fell' to communism, hardly a 'domino' effect.

  • Sources? US Army Infantrymen in Vietnam 1965-73, Osprey Publishing Co. UK, The Vietnam Experience, Boston Publishing Co. USA

  • A soldier came back from vietnam, and faced hippie resistance. He stopped at one couple, as he noticed a girl smiling at him. He winked at her, because he knew she was dating a pussy.

  • it doesnt take a man to pull a trigger. it doesnt take a man to pull a trigger on a civilian. it take a man to know what he is doing.

  • that is a good quote i cant remember which general said that.

  • There is a book coming out soon that is going to debunk the so-called mass fraggings. Most were not anti-war murders most were racially motivated black on white attacks and in 99% of the fraggers got the wrong target.

many of the "vets" that testified to Congressional hearings were either NEVER in Vietnam, (one was discharged in boot camp!) or had never left the continental United States durng their military "service."

  • oh sure, like ONE BOOK IS GOING TO DEBUNK HISTORY ASSHOLE!!!!

  • Oh yeah and it still doesn't change the fact that over a half million soldiers deserted the military during the war and the whole war was based on the faulty domino theory.

  • Blatant lies huh.

Myth one: Fraggings in Vietnam were common place in protest of the war

Reality: Their were only 199 homicides stemming from all causes from 1961-1975

Myth Two: US Troops heavily supported the the antiwar movement.

Reality: Most troops polled at any given time during the war disliked and even despised the antiwar movement.

  • I'm not sure what poll your quoting I'm guessing it came from a biased (who took this pool and define "most troops" in real numbers) source but its pretty obvious we aren't going to agree here.

The fact remains that supporters of the war created a myth about the Vietnam war that put the blame on hippies that "spat on soldiers" and a media which demoralized them (both are lies). These guys are so insidious that for many years after the war they convinced many that we won the war.

  • Why do you liberals insist on rewriting history? The fact is that the hippie cause failed and no matter how much rhetoric you put out there, it won't change the facts.

  • We rewrite history only when its a blatant lie.

I guess a movie where soldiers who put their lives on the line come back to protest a war they disagree with and are tormented by right wing flag wavers as "traitors" is too much reality for this guy to take. I bet his source on vietnam was Rambo and missing in action.

  • I'm ordering mine today. I can't wait to show it to friends on Veteran's Day! I live on the former Fr. Ord, the DLI and the DoD are within spitting distance, and there are tons of Vets all around... I can't wait!

  • A review on Rotten Tomatoes:

"A film that threatens the war movement with every showing, the Bush administration should outlaw it from all theatres within fifty miles of an armed forces recruiting station.

One of the most powerful anti-war films released this year, "Sir! No Sir!" is a review of the soldier-led anti-war movement in the USA during the Viet Nam war..."
