@OathOfOdium Aircraft back then didn't rely on the engines as much for lift as they do now. With those, they could prolly glide for a while. You loose ALL power in a 747 and you'll drop like a rock. (very rare to loose ALL power. They can climb to cruising on only one engine)
Ahh.. Glide ratio: 3 miles per 1000 ft. Pretty damn good!
